I'm staying with version 4. I never had the volume issue so if it ain't broke why fix it? I have all my tunes as MP3's and can't see any great benefit to going to (and converting everything to) WMA, but then I could be too dumb to notice.... just my 2 cents.

invest the 20 bucks in a card reader. That will set you free. you can do all the tricky stuff on your PC...MP3's, videoclips, WMA. You can download free software to convert video clips to 3gpp format then drag and drop them in "MY_FLIX". Your choice if you want to use MP3's or WMA's just drag in drop in the appropriate folder and go.

Anybody try the 2GB MiniSD yet?
How'd you make out? I know somebody has had to push the envelope. Any truth the the posting that no matter how big a card you use you can only store/access 512MB?

Yeah I did. I hope they grandfather it in on renewals. otherwise it just cuts the new every two discount in half. I'm sure VZW didn't do that on purpose. Hell, I may just go month to month when my 2 years is up. The 8100 is a great phone and I'm sure they will still provide firmware updates.

Anybody try a 2gb MiniSD card yet? Did it work? I have a 512 card now but 20 songs and a couple of short video clips and it's 40% used up. I have the card reader and also use it as a flash drive, so the more room I can get the better. Would also like to keep more music on it. TIA for any reviews. See them on ebay for about 50 ...

for those who have signed up, yes! For $5/month you get unlimited "IN" text/pix and flix messaging. The more you pay the more text/pix/flix messages you cans send to other than VZW customers. You should know, however, you will be limited to 15 second clips.

shareware version offset the audio by almost 3 seconds by the end of a 90 second clip. Does it get better if you pay to register it?

I've been out as far as Summit and mine works great! I don't pay much attention to the number of bars as the call quality seems to independent of this. I had crystal clear calls with only 1 bar. Don't give up it's a great phone and so much more.
Video Converters
Anyone have a favorite? I've tried a couple but the there is a lag between the video and audio. Appreciated any input before I buy one. The shareware ones appear to be sub-par.

Can do. I haven't done a whole TV show yet but have done a few short mpeg and wvm files. Just google "convert mpeg to 3gp" . you will have to download the software, I haven't found seen any place that sells the stuff off the shelf, but it is out there.

I got one just because it came FREE with the 8100 I bought. Gave it to my kid that came over from sprint. He's happier than a pig in poop. It's not the phone it's the network.

You're a peach Mary. I hope newbies like me haven't annoyed you too much with our lack of forum reading, but that said, I think I'll wait a while to get the bug fixing update untill they get the bugs out of THAT. I'll just have to put up with that camera lag a while longer. Never caught the "volume bug".
phone randomly switches to analog
This phone keeps going into analog mode. If you see it you can turn the phone off and on, it comes back digital. BUT, if you don't catch it it will kill your battery. I know one other person who has this problem. Are we alone? Any Ideas?

Dumb question from a newbie. I haven't had the chance to put any MP3's on the phone (V04). Should I even bother to get the update? I sure would like my camera to work before my pic escapes. If I do, do I use the above instructions to turn the MP3s on?

As the 9800 comes out tommorrow I just wanted to bring this thread to the top and see if any had anything to add before the big day. I will leave the VZW store with one of them I just don't know which.

I was just poking around the VZW website comparing phones and..BAM up pops a chat window. Not that will give you any trade secrets or anything, but at least you don't have to burn 3 gallons of gas or wait on hold forever.

upgrading from a 6100 I'm sure I'd love either one (glad to hear you love your 8100). Even the kids conceed the 9800 is more toy than I would probably play with(not that they would love to play with it), but I'm sure I could grow into it. It is perfect for the novice "texter". If the 9800 resolved the mp3/static ringtone issue it would be a big selling point.
