Played with the 9800. My thoughts on why I like the 8100 better.....

I went into my local Verizon store today and played with the 9800 for quite some time. I love my 8100 but always like to check out the new latest and greatest and knew deap down that if this phone blew me away, I would probably get it. Well, it didn't and I didn't and here are my reasons as to why and my thoughts about it in general........... (see disclaimer at bottom)

It is kind of cool if your looking for a toy. Other than that, I wouldn't choose it for a phone. It was about the size I was expecting, but still bulky. The outside key pad had tiny keys and I didn't like the feel. Outside screen was good, but not as good as the 8100. Another thing I considered about the "candy bar" style is you would have to lock the keys to avoid unwante...

Couldn't agree more. As stated above perfectly. All that and 200 bucks more to boot. It'll be an 8100 for me too. PS. Thanks for all your input Mary it was very helpful.

Thanks for the input Mary...one thing I have to disagree with you about though...the inside screen is quite bigger than the 8100...about a 1/4 of an inch diagonally..I know that doesn't sound like much but it's a big deal when you are talking about super small screens to begin with...resoulution is much better too...aside from that, I was impressed with the phone but not enough to spend that much more over the 8100...I agree with the rest of your thoughts on the phone and I don't think I will be buying it after all

I think when you go in to look at something with the intent to find faults, you'll find faults.

The phone simply rocks!

The screen is phenomenal. It is near-PDA, but in the same package as a regular flip phone. The sound quality is amazing. Almost too loud at most times. The camera is quite impressive too. And it is better to have recess than flush glass, don't fool yourself.

Again, if you think 300 is a lot for a phone, that's fine, but no need to bash it just because it is pricey. This phone is sweet! 🙂 S

I would have to agree with Shiva. I have been looking into various cell phones in the last several months. I was excited about the Audiovox 6600 when I first heard about it. A friend of mine told me I needed to wait for the Samsung I-730 since it was WIFI. I haven't had the pleasure of using a "live" version of the I-730. I have read many articles of people who either hate or love the I-730. Well, I don't want to drop $500 on just any phone.

I happened to learn about the LG VX-9800 earlier today when Verizon reps were telling me about the LG 8100 and Motorola E-815. I have nothing against the 8100 or E-815, but when I held the LG VX-9800, it felt amazing. It would definitely serve my needs at a much lower cost than the I-730. T...

I too wanted to take a peek at the 9800. I went to VZW and played with it for 30 mins or so. I was pleasently shocked at the small size of the phone. It felt good in my hands. The screen was nice on the inside and the outside was decent but I dont think it was better than my 8100s outside screen. The camera seemed about the same. I listened to some of the VZW tones and played them against my 8100. They were the same to me. The sales rep said she thought that my 8100 was slightly louder. I am not a text bandit and besides I am pretty fast using the regular numbered keypad. I personally will stay with my 8100. This isnt to say that the 9800 isnt going to be a great seller it just isnt for me. Cost has nothing to do with my decision because VZW...

After nearly a week of solid use, I know my 9800 will be a keeper. Listening to all the user reviews, this phone seems to draw extremes: Either you are drooling over it, or it simply doesn't appeal. I think this phone really appeals to business/text users that want the email sync feature on a very rock-solid phone that simply doesn't have too many faults.

If you won't use the keyboard very ofter as a normal cell phone user, it just is too much for the price difference. Younger users don't seem to like the bulk from what I read on different forums, unless they want the keyboard more than T9.

I come from using PDA Phones over the last few years, and I just get tired of memory issues and poor phone performance. This is the perfect ...

You know, this phone supports HTML. I was surprised to find that out. But there is something up with the memory allocation to Cache, it runs out after 1 page. However it does allow you to visit any page you like and click on links and see images. Also of course MSN/AOL/Yahoo Mail is supported with standard Mobie Web 2. Enjoy, S

You're right. I meant I'd like to see HTML-formatted email in my IMAP and POP accounts configured in the wireless sync application.

It would be nice to be able to jump to Mobile Web 2 with web links in the wireless sync emails, as well.

I'm not asking for too much, I think. 😉

I too went to the store and played around it for a while as well. To me (trying not to be cheap) I didn't see enough features for the price. I would have to pay full price and I think I would do better just paying a little extra for the Treo or any other smartphone.

It looked really nice. The screen was lovely, minus Verizon's fingerprint (the ugly banner). The keyboard was kinda wierd and spaced out just a little too much. The space bar was to the right but hey, if I owned it, I'd be used to it in no time.

The front screen and buttons are way too small and close respectively. It's very easy to hit end if you meant to hit another button on the right.

If I have to come off $400+ I think I'd do better with the smartphone.
