Thoughts on the new LG VX9800 vx. 8100????????

Ok, I LOVE my 8100 and wouldn't have even thought about changing phones for quite awhile, but noticed the new LG VX9800 is now available online at Verizon.com. I can't lie, it has peaked my interest. It seems really cool, but not sure if I like the "candy bar" style phone as well as the flip and also if I don't send a lot of text, do I really need the keyboard? Also, I do have mobile web, but I can breeze through that so fast already and most sites you can't even type stuff in anyway and as far as sending e-mail, I have my home pc for that. There is absolutely no reason I would want to get rid of my 8100 (having no problems, love it, etc.) but again, this has peaked my interest and wondered if anyone here had any thoughts on the 9800 its...

I am softening to the prospect of the 9800 myself. But I would need to hold it and get a really good look at it. I also do not like candy bars ...unless its a Snickers. I wqs on HoFo and was reading a few reviews there. Some said the outer screen isnt as nice as ours. I am taking a wait and see attitude. The selling point for me would be for them to have different software for the MP3 player so I dont get the static on my ringtones when the player is in shuffle mode.

Wait and see is a good idea. I heard and read about the Samsung SCH-a970 and it sounded awesome, then saw it at Best Buy and didn't like it at all. I guess I'll see how I feel when a real working one is in a store near me.

If you truely want people to try to sell you on the 9800, I would post this inquiry there. After all the response you'll get there, if you are still happy with the 8100 you will know you made the right choice. I'm right there with you though. I have a 6100 and am looking for sone one to talk me out of a 9800, as if 200 bucks isn't enough.

$469.99 for me, as I would have to pay full retail!

I just love the idea of a new toy (9800) but I doubt I would every use all the functions. The kids of course are drooling. But, as I understand it the 9800 is just a 8100 with a qwerty keyboard, and I don't text much (yet?) So it gets kinda hard to justify spending the extra money . I am just torn right now.

I do text, not an outrageous amount, but I am so used to the keypad on the 8100 that I can type in my message fairly quickly. So I just don't know. I guess I'll wait to look at a working one when it hits stores in October and go from there. I really LOVE my 8100, though, so the 9800 would have to totally blow me out of the water! It just sucks when this new stuff comes out and it makes you wonder if your missing something, you know?

upgrading from a 6100 I'm sure I'd love either one (glad to hear you love your 8100). Even the kids conceed the 9800 is more toy than I would probably play with(not that they would love to play with it), but I'm sure I could grow into it. It is perfect for the novice "texter". If the 9800 resolved the mp3/static ringtone issue it would be a big selling point.

Amen to the static ringtone problem. I would trade my 8100 in a heartbeat "pumpkin05". Just so you know you can take your MP3 player off shuffle to stop the static ringtones. But thats a bummer because who wants to go in the same order ALL the time?

Or pay the 200 and add a line to your family plan for two years for an extra 10 bucks a month.

I have been curious about the 9800 too. But I haven't had a bar-style phone in quite some time, not since my old Nokia from proabably 8 years ago or something. Ever since I've had a clamshell type phone, that's what I've really liked the most. I like that the keypad is covered when I put it in my pocket or bag. And the old candy bar Nokia I used to have was much smaller than the 9800. 4 1/2" is pretty big for a phone and I had problems with the size of the 8000, which I think was smaller. The keyboard is cool but I really don't text message either, but it would probably make adding contacts or browsing the web easier. Business card reader looks interesting too, not quite sure how that works and if I'd get any use out of it. Also, any...

I would think all the LG's would be the same, since VZW is using the same software. According to LG, the software controls the phone and the software is set by VZW. At this point you would probably be better off with the a970. Bluetooth - the 1st phone by LG. I believe Samsung has a couple of BT phones. Signal - LG is not noted for having the greatest connections. Don't know about Samsung. The only one I had was a couple of years ago and connections were so-so. 🙄 🙄

FYI it's spelled piqued, not peaked. It's pronounced like the way you spelled it however.
