Re: US Cellular to buy divested Alltel properties in these states...
Jan 11, 2009, 3:52 PM
in the Alltel forum

No proof of this except personal experience. The smaller the company, the better the customer service. I would prefer to have USCC take those markets. Sprint, however, is in no shape to buy anything right now. They've got a six-inch gash in their neck and it's hemmhoraging customers like it's blood from the jugular.

Re: I'm a Divested Market
Jan 11, 2009, 3:46 PM
in the Alltel forum

There are a few divested markets in North Central Ohio so you likely will be divested. This is not a bad thing. All divested market customers will continue to be treated as Alltel customers by Alltel employees. So nothing will really change. Verizon has 120 days to sell off the divested markets and then you know how long it takes for a deal to close. It took Verizon 6 months to close the Alltel ...

Re: Sprint / Alltel
Mar 23, 2008, 1:08 PM
in the Alltel forum

Agreed. Alltel snapping up Sprint would be a boon for them as it would finally make them a true contender against the Big Red Machine. With Alltel owning most of the rural CDMA networks in the country, VZW would have no choice but to partner up with Alltel for roaming agreements, but the shoe would be on the other foot and Alltel would virtually control the entire agreement. Only real problems are the divestiture an what ...

Anyone ever activate an LG Prada on T-Mobile? How difficult was it to set up all the data stuff? Can it even be set up? Do I need a data plan? Sorry for the dumb questions but I just signed up with T-Mobile after ditching Big Red and am coming to appreciate the freedoms of GSM.

Depends on which release. First release sucked ass. Any subsequent release was actually pretty solid. I always refer to the E815 as a fixed V710 w/ EVDO.

Re: VZW UI is made by LG
Apr 14, 2007, 9:36 PM
in the Verizon forum

As I understand it, LG was commissioned by VZW to design and trial the UI on the VX7000. After resounding success, they decided to go full bore with it. I think the only reason that Moto still uses the standard red and not the flash UI like Samsung and LG might either be licensing or the fact that the VZW UI on Motos is a Java applet that sits on top of Moto's existing UI. This ...

That surprises me. I get text messages all the time because of work and 9 out of 10 don't require a reply so being able to view externally is great for me. I have the 8600 and I'm glad they put that back on after the whole 8300 debacle. I really hope LG isn't doing away with that option completely.

Nope, EDGE only. But that doesn't surprise me. Once Cingular's got their 3G network more widespread, they'll make a killing off of the next iPhone. Damn, I wish they'd gone CDMA. I would love for VZW to have picked this up.

I talked with a Samsung rep who came to my call center to showcase the phone. He said "Well, it's slated to release in January, so expect it in March or April." Then he laughed. Only problem is, I'm not sure whether he was kidding or not.

If fingerprints are your main concern, yeah, don't get the phone. I went and bought a little piece of velvet, folded it over and sewed the ends up. it's a little pocket for my phone to sit in. Yeah, it's a little tedious, but at least the screen should be kept pretty clean.

You uh... don't. The white list contains ESNs manufactured for VZW only. You can't have yours added on to it.

Re: U.S Copyright Office Issues New Rights
Nov 24, 2006, 1:58 PM
in the Verizon forum

I don't think so. The copyright exemption only talks about software lock-outs. VZW doesn't allow non-VZW devices on their network and that's done by way of the network itself, not the phone. They block out non-VZW ESNs. I don't think this would affect VZW.

See, this is why I don't visit these forums anymore. Just a bunch of whiny, unproductive comments from people with entitlement complexes. If Engadget had decent forums and a better structure, I'd never come back here searching for interesting comments (which has become as tedious as pulling teeth, btw). But hell, even those seem to be gone, too. God, get over yourself.

Nov 14, 2006, 12:50 PM

No, that's just a data code. That's what allows your phone to access Get It Now, MobileWeb and things like that. That's not what allows your phone to tether. I wish I had InfoManager available, I'd tell you which one it is. I'm not too familiar with that billing system. We use another one here in the West. The part I emboldened is actually the second piece of information that you need to verify for ...

Ok, so far, this is all I've found. It doesn't have pricing, but it does explain that a feature is required. It's the most common issue that drives an old minute-using tethering customer to call into tech support. I’m getting “username & password incorrect” error when trying to connect – what should I do? First, verify you are within the Verizon Wireless coverage area. This error will occur when you are outside of the Verizon Wireless Enhanced Services ...

Re: Any Verizon phones to use as Laptop Computer Modem?
Nov 14, 2006, 12:21 PM

Well, that's if you're using your phone to dial out to another ISP. That's essentially making a phone call. That's allowed. But if you connect using VZW as the ISP, that's where the charges are. Look up the info on NationalAccess/BroadbandAccess Connect. That's where the rates are.

Re: Any Verizon phones to use as Laptop Computer Modem?
Nov 14, 2006, 12:08 PM
in the Verizon forum

That's for both Broadband and NationalAccess Connect-capable devices. It's $59.99. Sure the kits are available for devices just about any device but a data plan is required. VZW's never officially offered a per-minute ability. It was just allowed. Not allowed anymore. It might work with some people, but it's being blocked all over the network. I think it's being done in blocks because calls have been coming in for several months where ...

Can't use your minutes anymore, at least not officially. It's either a data plan or no tethered access at all anymore. Even if you do use your minutes, it's 14.4kbps only.

I still don't understand how you came to the conclusion that if they're not posting their numbers that means there are problems with it. PTT... well PTT was a mess.

Well, it may also be that since Verizon has been lighting up a new area with EvDO every week for almost two months now, they're just waiting until they're done for a final head count.

If you're sending them via the MMS protocol, then that is correct. You will be charged for every individual picture message sent unless you send them as email attachments which is just considered data. As far as I understand ...

Re: Moved from sprint to Verizon
Nov 12, 2006, 3:43 PM
in the Verizon forum

Well, a heads up, you can only exchange for a new one within the first fifteen days but it will be as many times as necessary. You can even swap out for a different device within the first 15 days if necessary and pay the difference if it's more. After 15 days, you have a one-year warranty that would allow you to swap the device for another device of the same model however it will be refurbished. ...
