US Cellular to buy divested Alltel properties in these states...

Don't ask me how I know this as I can't share and if you don't believe then oh well, I'm sharing anyway. I have been told from reliable sources that US Cellular has/will buy Alltel in the following places: Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Colorado, Idaho...and that's all I have confirmation of, but I'd venture to guess it would include Kansas and Nebraska as well. Only time will tell, you heard it here first!

It makes sense to me... US Cellular is no competition to Alltel or Verizon... Its always best to pick your enemy... I think Sprint or USCC would be the top two picks for the divested markets of Alltel and Verizon to go to...

Thanks for the info!!

If this is indeed true, well, then that really blows. I would much rather have an AT&T or T-Mobile come in than US Cellular. It would have made sense too, since the Alltel towers in North and South Dakota have GSM built in to them. Excuse me while I puke in my mouth a bit.

No proof of this except personal experience. The smaller the company, the better the customer service. I would prefer to have USCC take those markets.

Sprint, however, is in no shape to buy anything right now. They've got a six-inch gash in their neck and it's hemmhoraging customers like it's blood from the jugular.

I think for the Dakotas the best thing to happen here would be Att. No doubt about it. I just don't see USCC spending enough to make Verizon let it go. Yeah, they're not the toughest competitor, but they're also not the richest. VZW is going to be looking to make some cash off of this sale.

USCC would be a great fit for the Dakotas. It would be a great fit in those areas.

USCC is very good in the rural areas, like Alltel.

As for VZW making cash on this....yes and no.
They have 180 days to sell of the divestitures. Anything purchased in the beginning will go for far market value.....anything sold at the end of the six month time frame could be acquired for far less than it's worth. Remember they are only selling it because they have too.

AT&T would be very bad for this area, GSM is not a good network to cover tough terrain.

For anybody living in those areas I would be stoked. USCC has awesome coverage and even better customer service. We had USCC in SE Idaho, but then through a market swap became Alltel. When word first came out of the merger, we were hoping if by chance we were divested that USCC would come back, but we're stuck with Big Red 😈
