tethering, you can tether and use broadband for $60 a month on any evdo capable phone. For non evdo capable phones you can tether as well, this will not get you broadband, will not cost you $60 a month, but will run at about 124kb on average and use your minutes.

That's what I'm looking for tethering. I don't need speed. Only going to do it a few times a month. No web sites with graphics. Just pulling credit reports But do all verizon phone let you tether?..

for the part, the main thing is if the are evdo/vcast phones, those will run fasat but cost you $$$$. If you look at mid range phones like the lg 5200 /moto 325 you can purchase a mobile office kit and hook up to the slower speed(runs about 2x dial up) and it will just use your minutes.

any national access/1x capable phone, we are arguein about the billing on that right now though, i was under the understanding that you could simply use a mobile office kit and burn your minutes when not on a broadband phone, but now majorxero is saying Verizon is not allowing this, give me a bit and I will try to verify the right info for you. If you want to check if the phone is capable just make sure it does not have vcast(or you must go with the $60 a month package) then just shop accessories for the phone you are looking at and see if a mobile office kit is available for it.

he is talking about using a non evdo phone, like the 5200 as a modem and just use your minutes while using the national access network not the broadband service. You used to be able to do this but it looks like Verizon maybe cutting this service off.

That is correct. That has been blocked you need a plan to access. Tried a couple of weeks ago for a customer. You can tether on certain phones 30.00 unlimited a month.

That is BS, oh well not that surprised, but you think they would release some sort of pay per use or something. They need to be careful since that is not clearly explained on any custmer documentation, especially when they are selling mobile office kits and not pointing out you have to pay a seperate package to tether NON evdo phones as well.

Can't use your minutes anymore, at least not officially. It's either a data plan or no tethered access at all anymore.

Even if you do use your minutes, it's 14.4kbps only.

what! That is only on broadband capable headsets! I hope that is not true becuase it would be really lame. I sold a data kit for a 5200 last week and had no issues hooking up and using it. Verizon Offers the kits right on website and they say for broadband or Nationalaccess depending model.

That's for both Broadband and NationalAccess Connect-capable devices. It's $59.99. Sure the kits are available for devices just about any device but a data plan is required. VZW's never officially offered a per-minute ability. It was just allowed. Not allowed anymore. It might work with some people, but it's being blocked all over the network. I think it's being done in blocks because calls have been coming in for several months where the customers were using the per-minute plans and now suddenly they can't. Sorry.

that blows! Then why sell mobile office kits for non broadband phones!

here this is copied right off the website for a lg5200 mobile office kit! So are you positive because it says right there it works with national access!

"Everything you need to get your laptop onto Verizon Wireless' NationalAccess network, for wireless access to your business network without a separate ISP account.

Mobile Office Kit includes:
Mobile Office Configuration CD, USB Driver CD, USB Connector Cable, and Quick Start Guide.

Mobile Office Configuration CD includes:
Smith Micro's QuickLink Mobile™ software with features to make mobile computing more convenient. "

Well, that's if you're using your phone to dial out to another ISP. That's essentially making a phone call. That's allowed. But if you connect using VZW as the ISP, that's where the charges are. Look up the info on NationalAccess/BroadbandAccess Connect. That's where the rates are.

I re-read that after I posted. You're right, but it also doesn't say it's free. I'm going on a hunting frenzy right now. Geez, this website does not make it easy, does it?

Ok, so far, this is all I've found. It doesn't have pricing, but it does explain that a feature is required. It's the most common issue that drives an old minute-using tethering customer to call into tech support.

I’m getting “username & password incorrect” error when trying to connect – what should I do?
First, verify you are within the Verizon Wireless coverage area.
This error will occur when you are outside of the Verizon Wireless Enhanced Services network and no data services are available on the roaming network.
This error can also occur when trying to make a National Access connection within a Quick2Net only coverage area.
Then, verify the data features on your account.
This error can also occur when you ar

Yeah but that sounds like the issue is they are not in a national access market just a quicktonet area? then the second on is simply feature code, i think 1XPP1 - NATL ENHANCED SERVI - 0.00 is the correct code which goes on any national access capable phone and is free.

No, that's just a data code. That's what allows your phone to access Get It Now, MobileWeb and things like that. That's not what allows your phone to tether. I wish I had InfoManager available, I'd tell you which one it is. I'm not too familiar with that billing system. We use another one here in the West.

The part I emboldened is actually the second piece of information that you need to verify for that FAQ besides location if the location is correct. If anyone can help, please do. I need to get to work. I'll find that info for you and clarify if no one else beats me to it.

ok i think i found it! It was buried on the internal site and I will not post the exact document. This is my understanding, the 1x data feature that goes on any get it now phone is all that is needed to use your phone as a modem, however Verizon frowns upon this and expects people to buy a broadband or national access plan( these mirror the same ones offered for aircards) This was back in 2004, it basically states that people should not be using their 1x phones as a modem without paying for a plan for it. However they have been very leniant over the years and never really cracked down on this. So It will work, but if you said they are starting to crack the wip on people then that sucks! currently all you need is that feature i posted earlier...
