Honest Review

Sep 30, 2004 by stanleyt66

OK, to start with, this is a CELL PHONE, not a camera. If you want a camera you should buy a digital camera, so just stop with the "the camera sucks" reviews. The phone is great, its tri-mode, has a top notch speakerphone, and takes GREAT pictures and videos, FOR A PHONE! Downsides are some blue-tooth issues that VZW did not think to unlock, and this doesn't relate to the phone it relates to VZW's greed.

Looks good to me

I read every review here and then went to Radio Shack to actually play with it. This is one high class piece of new technology. The antenna was maybe 5", not the 8" that somebody was talking about earlier. I had a moto v60c which is shorter but wider. This is no kids phone. This is for the consummate adult electronics junkie who can't get enough of whats new. I took some pics inside of Radio Shack and they look great! Many said in earlier reviews that inside pics look like trash. Maybe they are comparing them to digital cameras with 3+ mega pixels. Mine arrives from Verizon on Monday and I can already tell that this will keep me satisfied for two years until I could get a discount on the next latest and greatest. Of course I have already ordered the blue tooth usb adapter and software, the bluetooth headset and of course the 128mg flash card. Junkies unite! Finally a non boring cell phone.

Good phone. Not great Price

Aug 5, 2004 by denzillion

I got my phone today. So far no problem. Here is the pros and cons from my perspective

Pros:
-Amazing Screen
-Good Battery Life (its how T720 starts off and it crapped out)
- Reasonable Size for loaded phone
- Speaker Phone is awesome
- Reception out performs VX6000 in many instances
- Voice Dialing works flawlessly even for asian names
- Bluetooth (haven't tried it out but good to have)
- Picture quality is good (at the highest level but if you can good quality go out and get a digital camera)

Cons:
- The charger sucks!!!
- The Video is non-existence.
- It "pops" very lightly when you open the clamshell.
- The keypad can be way better with more feel to it.
- Price is abit high, even for new customer
- The dust can get in between the screens (especially the external screen)

After all, I really like the phone. I just hope that it won't crapped out like T720 after 3 months with basically one day of battery life. It has been one hell of adventure trying to get this phone. :)

The Best Option for Verizon Wireless

Aug 18, 2004 by LoveMyPhone

This is the best phone available for Verizon Wireless customers, especially if you occasionally need analog service. I live in an area that is supposedly all digital. When I had an all digital phone, I was constantly flipping between "service" and "no service." Customer support suggested I get a tri-mode phone and, as far as I'm concerned, the V710 is the best tri-mode cell phone on the market today for Verizon Wireless customers. It's not perfect, but I don't think any cell phone out there is. I always have a signal and excellent reception, which is all I care about when it comes to a cell phone. Is it expensive? Yes! But, with the $70 rebate and the $100 two year credit, the phone costs only $150...not too bad. Bottom line...this phone will keep me happy until something better in a tri-mode comes along.

Not too bad

Just got this phone 4 days ago and still learning. So far so good. Still haven't tried the mp3 waiting for transflash and I just ordered the HS810 headset on Ebay. Anyway here's what I experienced so far.

Pros:
-large screen
-good signals
-great speakerphone
-voice dial is great
-very stylish

Cons:
-camera is OK
-key pad is cheap and small
-screens get smudgy too easy
-phone is too pricey

Overall the cons are minor. I cant wait to try it out w/ bluetooth headset and download mp3's with the transflash. It could only get better.

Best phone since the StarTac

Aug 10, 2004 by LieBuster

After looking forward to this phone for a number of months, I have to say that it was certainly worth the wait. For my needs, this is the best phone I have ever owned, but I can understand why some people may say that it is not for them.

Pros:
> Excellent screen, big and awesome resolution
> Best signal strength I've had with Verizon
> What can I say about ObeyMeMoto? The most fantastic feature I have ever seen on a cell phone. I don't have to pick up my phone at all! Push the button on the headset and tell the phone what to do.
> Sound from the earpiece is loud and clear, no matter where I hold it (I don't understand the problems I've read about volume)
> Speakerphone also loud and clear
> Perfect size and looks nice

Cons:
> Only thing I have encountered as a con thus far is that fingerprints show up very clearly on the external surface (wow, big deal)

Now you should also consider what features you need. The camera is no better than that of other phones, 1.3 megapixel or not. Bluetooth is limited, no file transfers. You can't blame that on Moto though, that's VZW's doing. To me these are minor, I have no need for the camera and I only wanted Bluetooth for the headset, which works great. So for my money, this is probably the best phone available for any carrier right now. Bravo Motorola and Verizon!

I love it!!

I have had many phones and this is by far my favorite. the loud speaker phone is great. The screen is very good, Bluetooth headset is very cool I am totally spoiled now. Be patient with Verizon and new updates are on the way to download.

This phone ROCKS

Dont be surprised by the fact that the latest Motorola entry to exchange money for phone is really a v60 wrapped around a hot new screen, fabulous non-trained voice commands, and Blue Tooth technology.

Two criticisms:
1) Because it IS Motorola, the phone has security all screwed up. The correct security model is that the phone be able to receive calls, but not dial out (Hey! I just left my phone somewhere. If I call my phone, the finder will answer and be able to arrange its return). Motorola believes that a phone should either be totally unavailable on startup (as if we always turn off our phone at every opportunity), or it should allow for outgoing calls but restrict incoming calls! Now that is just plain backwards!

2) The 710 only allows for 4 factory supplied uneditable groups. So totally out of touch with customer requirements, that they must have designed this "feature" while in a stupor.

What works? EVERYTHING!
The blue tooth earpiece is so Star Trek that it defines "kool". One touch on the tiny earpiece, say a command & entry name, or voice dial a number. The phone can be 100feet away (e.g., never needs to hang off a belt!). It can reside hidden in a pocket, on a desk, whereever.

The screen is huge; well within the set comprising the largest available. Sharp colors.

There are an abundance of user programmable short cuts available but who needs them? The keyboard layout provides for access to 6 of the most common commands pre-assigned (and yes, the keys can be reassigned by the user); since I dont do web stuff on my cell phone, I freed up 2 buttons for one-keystroke access to received and another to dialed calls.

It would be nice if Moto would offer one listing of received+dialed+missed listed together in time order.

One consistant, intuitive way to wonder the v710 is provided, (though why there is a "select" button separare from the OK button?). OK. The keys are a little small.

Easy to setup. Easy to use. Buy it!

Excellent phone

Have had the phone for almost 2 weeks, and so far the phone is excellent.

*Reception blows my old v60i away, have put them side by side, v60 had 2 bars signal, v710 had 4bars.

*Speaker volume is good, but you do have to find the 'sweet spot.' The 710 is actually a bit louder than my v60, but you have to learn to hold it correctly, which is fairly true with any new phone, there is always a learning curve.

*Bluetooth works well, for what it can currently do which is primarily handsfree.. have the HS810 which I highly recommend, especially over the 820. A friend who bought the 820 returned it for the 810 after using mine.

*Speakerphone, comparable to an office-quality speakerphone. (If moto can update the phone to be able to use w/ clamshell closed, will be even better)

*voice commands are incredible, never misses a beat.

*OS/menus/phonebook, fairly well laid out, and very customizable.

*MP3 ringtones... GREAT, absolutely incredible! Have part of the theme from Kill bill, austin powers, and others.. always get comments from strangers about how cool it is.

*Now on to the camera...For everyone who says the camera is bad, first off it's not, if you send the pictures to a PC to view in hi-res they look pretty good, ESPECIALLY FOR A PHONE. The people who fuss about the camera on the phone, are the same ones who if they bought a digital camera that had a built in phone...they'd fuss about reception or sound quality.

People need to realize that this is a PHONE first, and a camera SECOND, geez.. and as long as there's good lighting, the pictures turn out pretty darn good, especially when viewed on a PC.

This is the best phone Verizon has ever offered

Aug 23, 2004 by psuser

Pros:
Very cool voice recognition system.
Speaker phone is loud and sounds great.
Using a wireless headset (bluetooth) is fantastic.
Memory expansion slot.
Great reception (signal strength) and sound quality.
Tri-mode.
Comfortable size (think t720).
Surprisingly light weight phone.
iSync support.
Great for gaming (Jamdat Golf is a winner).
Good battery life.
Great screen, especially for mobile web 2 use.
One year manufacturers warranty.

Cons:
Camera best for outdoor use.
Internal screen smudges easily due to screen size and speaker location.

Overall, this is a great phone. Certainly the most feature rich phone that Verizon currently offers - a definite keeper.
