Got an A in My Book!

Aug 23, 2004 by married2Ageek

I have been reading your reviews over the past month and have found them to be very helpful so I thought it was only right to give back. Here's mine.

For my birthday last month I wanted to get my new every two phone. Since then I have had the Audiovox 8900, LG VX 7000, the V710 and the LG VX 4500 - in that order. I returned the 4500 to get the V710 again just last week and I am very happy with it. Not the perfect phone - there isn't one - but best meets my needs and wants. I wanted something that was easy to read, was smaller than my bar phone, got EXCELLENT reception, was trimode and had a great speakerphone.

PROS
1. Loud ringers.
2. Beautiful large main screen.
3. Excellent receiver - got signals where the LGs could not keep one.
4. LOUD speakerphone.
5. Well made - sturdy - I'm not afraid if my 4 year old (also a phone geek) gets his hands on it. The 4500 hinges started to get loose!
6. Feels good in my hand - and I am a small woman.
7. The high resolution camera even though the picture is grainy will print well.
8. Very customizable if you take the time to learn it.
9. Trimode, Trimode, Trimode! Never want to be caught without a signal and trimode also possibly enhances the reception. Only this and the Audiovox 8900 (also a trimode) kept the signal in places that the digital-only phones could not.

CONS - these are with most new phones
1. Have to get used to the touch of the keypad.
2. Have to learn what the phone can do - BTW, none absolutely NONE of the manuals for any of the phones I have tried have been very informative.
3. Letters on the keypad are tiny but offset by the large print on the main screen.
4. More than I wanted to spend but that was because there were more features on the phone than I needed.

Overall got an A in my book so I went back to get it after returning it. Hope this helps.

Great Phone Overall

Upgraded from sch-a530. I received the v710 2 days after ordering from vzw.com. Quick service I would recommend. After using this phone for a week, I can say the phone itself is very nice.

Some Pros:
*Design/finish (phone looks sleek and rich in looks)
*Belt clip (Flip can be opened while belt clip still attached. Snaps in easily and securely)
*Camera (high resolution pics, needs PLENTY of lighting though, PLENTY)
*Video (take decent videos in good light, with sound)
*Operating system is detailed and has plenty of personalizing options.
*LCD Screen (High color, huge screen)
*Speaker phone (works very good)
*Voice recognition (No voice preprogramming required)
*MP3 (MP3 Playback and ring-tones)
*Bluetooth

Some Cons:
*Software slightly glitchy (First software version. I found when taking self picture with the flip closed, the saving of the picture is very glitchy. Sometimes it will save, the other times your phone will not respond to button selections)
*Size is pretty large for a phone these days, but it's still acceptable.
*Camera pictures are hideous in low light situations to medium light situations. You need a bright sunny day or good strong fluorescent lighting for indoor.
*Sound quality is not as good as Samsung and LG's, both ends will have somewhat low volume. About 30% reduction in volume from the SCH-A530.

I would consider it the BMW of phones. Meaning, it seems that Motorola put effort into the beautiful design and abundant features of the phone. Materials, fit, finish, and features are generally all great and well thought out on this phone. Reliability is unknown since it has not been tested by consumers yet due to the new release of this product.

Overall, I would recommend this phone to a man who is looking for a high end phone that is willing to spend $250. Not really a phone for women unless they have large hands. I have been waiting for this phone for 2 months and overall, I have not been disappointed, besides with the camera.

V710 Not what expected!!!!

I have had this phone for 4 days now. When I first received it I thought there was something wrong with the phones camera. It wasn't very clear, tried all the settings and still no good. Returned the phone for another, and even the guy in verizon said the quality was bad and gave me another phone. So i didn't check the new one until I got back in me car. IT WAS THE SAME !! BAD!!

So here are my pros and cons:

Pros:
Blue tooth is great, with the hs820 headset
Sound quality is good
volume is good, but some reviews say bad, but I don't have any problems with the volume.
thats about it for the pros
Now the Cons:

Someone said in there review that the camera quality is not important because it is a phone first and camera second, Well I disagree with that !! You are paying more money because it not only has blue tooth BUT it has a 1.2 mega pixel camera, and they were promoting it as a great camera. I have had the lg6000 and my son has the samsung 670, and both of those phones only VGA quality BLOW AWAY my v710!!!
Also the outside screen shows only a very small pic, a fraction of the screen size, so even though the screen is large the picture is very small, again my sons samsung is the whole screen!!
The black outside of the phone gets very smudgy easy, and shows because it is black.
Also the speakerphone only works with the phone open

In closing, if the phone had much better pictures it would be a good phone, but don't let the 1.2 mega pixels fool you!!!! Its terrible!!! I will probably be returning the phone by the end of the week and waiting for the lg8000

So far, so good!

Just got the phone on 8/11. I wanted it to pair with my wife's Acura TL. I also got one for me, but it's still in the box.

Interestingly, when I tried to get some help from Acura Handfree, they told me it may not work since I was using it on Verizon which is CDMA and they support GSM. I persevered and got it to pair. So far, it is working fine. Seems easy to use. Since the camera and video were extras, I don't really care if they work that well or not. I just need a reliable phone that holds calls where I can hear the other person and they can hear me. I would be very curious to hear peoples's reviews of different BT headsets - both the Motorola ones, Jabra's, etc.

I haven't played enough with it to give a full review, but I will try:

Pros
Bluetooth - don't have a headset yet, but it sounds great through the car and okay on the receiving end.
Speakerphone - sounds pretty good. Easy to switch back and forth.
Apparently, I can use my V60 chargers.
Like the zoom feature on the camera, but have done very little with it so far.
Easy to program - like other Motorolas.

Cons
Size - bigger than my V60, but the phone does have a lot of features to offer.
Pricey.
Agree that you must center your ear in the earpiece (unlike the V60) but this will become automatic with some use.

Best phone I have ever had

Had the Motorola T730 for 2 years. The V710 is a far better phone on all levels.

I am dissappointed in the POP email, which the phone claims it has but it does not.

I like the menu system. Some people have complained, but once you are used to it it flies.

Camera is just OK, but I have a 4 megapix digital camera for good pics. If I need to take pics to get a quick image to a friend, I can take a pic then email it. How cool is that. I also emailed hi res pics to the phone and stored them. It is like having a digital photo album.

Outside screen is fine. Don't understand complaints on quality. Who needs great quality on a screen that really only gives you the time.

Sound quality on earpiece is a little low, but it is the same as the T730, so I am used to it.

It DOES NOT HAVE A FLASH. The 'Flash' is really a small white light that can be turned on and off. It is like a keychain flashlight and really does not help any low light pics.

Video's are cool with sound. Emailed one to my email and was blown away. Quality is like the Rodney King video.

I like the size. People with the V60 might complain because it is bigger, but it is the same size as the T730. I also like a phone big enough to hold between head and shoulder.

Signal is supreme.

Batter life has been much better than T730.

The Best......

This is the best phone that I have ever owned...and I have owned a lot of phones. My two favorite aspects of this phone are the call quality and reception. I am able to receive calls in locations of my house where I had no service with other phones.

Pros:
Great reception, call quality, speaker phone, blue tooth, size and it looks cool.

Cons..All very minor:
Phone smudges easily, size of control buttons on side of phone and average battery life.

everything you need in a phone is here!

I think this phone is great I'm one of the few who got a phone with no bugs except for the bluetooth ofcourse but i highly doubt its a bug i just think verzion did this purposely. This phone has a great camera outside and a pretty decent camera inside as long as there are good lightning conditions. I love the fact that it has an mp3 player and an expansion slot to put more memory inside the phone. The screen is big with incredible colors. The voice commands are fantastic. And the speaker phone is nice and loud. Some cons for the phone are that the vibration is not that good and its disability to receive mp3's songs and pictures via bluetooth even though i dont really need it cuz i bout the transflash card with the memory card reader from motorola.com. Anyway i highly recommend this phone who wants a nice phone with many incredible features!

FINALLY!!!

Jul 31, 2004 by Deimos

Finally Motorola, the company that invented the cell phone, releases a phone worthy of their name. This is by far the best Moto since the StarTac.

Pros:
Amazing RF performance. It holds a signal in areas that my V60i would drop the call

Great speaker-phone. People are shocked to hear that I'm talking on a speaker-phone.

Speaker independent voice dial. It even understands tricky names on the first try... you just need to be in a quiet area to use it.

Cons:
Camera. Quality of pics is poor

On the whole, even after half a year of anticipation, I am completely satisfied with my purchase, and it's worth every minute of the waiting.

Best Verizon Phone Yet

Jul 31, 2004 by wirelessaddict

When paired with the bluetooth headset, this phone is MILES AHEAD of any other phone Verizon has ever offered. Having just had this phone for a day, I can already tell the difference in call quality and connection/signal strength vs my old T720/T730.

Highly reccommend.

This Phone is the best ever. The camera is actually pretty good, when in the right lighting. it has so many features and u can customized just about everything on the phone. Mp3s and music on it is very clear and a very nice speakerphone, thats all i use now lol, this is the best phone out right now and i can't possibly see myself waiting a different anytime soon. O and the display is great! and the phone looks great and its not even as big as ya'll claim.
