*sigh* RETURN.

Sep 7, 2004 by inorbital

Eh... Verizon disappoints me more than the manufacturer for letting this phone get past their scrutinizing testing. Idiots.

Pros:
Nice wallpapers, Nice size screen, Bluetooth headset works well enough...

Cons:
Can only interface Bluetooth with Headset-NO OTHER DEVICES.

Horrible Battery life, especially using Bluetooth headset.

Buggy software. Verizon can't test for sh*t, or their tolerances are questionable. I'm surprised they let this go.

Camera useless unless extremely well lit.

Atrocious battery life.

Camera pics are fuzzy, poor color separation.

Can't change external display wallpaper.

Backlight in keyboard erratically works.

Did I mention the crippled battery life?

Leather case prevents buttons from depressing.

External display turns black completely.

V710

Overall, if you need bluetooth (verizon), its amazing!
Voice dialing with redial, voicemail, digit dial, name dial. You can use the headset without the ever touching the phone and best of all its verizon service. The other features are secondary to me. The Phone is slightly larger than the T720 but packed with features, Camera,video,Bluetooth,MP3,
etc. The only cons that I have are the earpiece volume could be higher and the vibrate mode is a little weak. Best Moto since V60 came out

V710 - VZW - Don't bother

Dec 5, 2004 by omsoft

Pros -
Speakerphone
Address Book
Calendar
Call quality
Cons -
Bluetooth crippled by VZW in their greediness to make more money.
Camera is useless, very poor and grainy images (my T-Mobile V300 takes better pics),
Camera flash is for namesake, good only for finding door lock at night.
Very highly priced for value received.

Overall, even though I am quite satisfied with call quality and office features such as, calendar and contacts, I do not recommend this phone because VZW has crippled bluetooth in their search for more $$$. This is because you can not transfer pictures and files between PC and V710 using either USB MPT or Bluetooth, and poor camera res, the only features left are making phone calls. And for this you need not pay so much money to VZW. A cheaper alternative will be just as good.

Liked it but had some flaws

Sep 17, 2004 by samdayo

The phone I had before the V710 was another Moto T720 which was junk.

I had to return the first V710 because the keypad made noises. If you press the keys, most keys are smooth but once in a while one key (usually 7 or # key) will stick and make a cracking noise. The second phone didn't have this problem, but the keypad shifted a bit on the replacement. I am sending this phone back as the second phone has a very bad build. If you squeeze on the phone, you can hear the plastic fit not being very solid. Example, squeezing on the back speaker area and the front mic area causes the plastic to make a squeaky noise. I am not talking about a hard squeeze but just a light one. Holding the phone and moving it around, you can hear the plastic squeaking. For >$300, you would not expect it.

Things I liked about the phone. Speakerphone works well. Voice dialing works good if you don't rush the commands and speak clearly. I think a lot of people rush the commands and don't get as much success. The styling is nice. Looks sleek and very professional. Ring volume and external speaker volume is very good (LOUD and effective). Flip swivel is smooth and has a good feel. LCD is large, very bright with crisp graphics.

Things I didn't like. I did do the volume hack to make the ear piece louder. That helps a bit. The build as mentioned previously was bad. If you look at the plastic, the molding is not smooth and doesn't fit perfectly. Squeaks. They keypad is very mushy so it is not comfortable to press. Keys 4,7,8,0 and navigation + OK button doesn't feel quite good. Battery life is short. If you don't get a good nights charge, it would be beeping out of charge by tomorrow evening. External display is not very customizable and not very nice looking. It turns off so if you want to know the time you need to press the side button. The side button is indented so it is not as easy to press. The keypad is not well lit and very dim. Camera, Bluetooth sucks.

handset sound quality

Aug 16, 2004 by bayouptown

Bought phone on Friday and returned it on Sunday. The sound on the handset is far too low. When in a store or mall it is nearly impossible to hear the caller. I hated to return it because of all the other features, which are terrific. You know them all, especially the advanced voice dialing and bluetooth but having to strain to hear was too much. Hope they find a fix, then will buy again.

Save yourself the trouble and MONEY!!!

First, I have had a v60...it sucked and I gave it away. Also had a 720...we all know the stories with those. I threw it down and smashed it. I also had a 730. Still crap. Gave it away and went back to my timeport which is 4 years old and still kickin fine. I have gone thru two v710's in my 15 day return period with verizon. First one would get voicemails from nowhere without ever ringing for a call. Second one had the camera in it so crooked you could see it from the outside. At least off by 30 degrees...unbeleivable. Not worth a dollar. If you have one take it back while you still can. BTW...the store manager, Christine Burns, at Desert Ridge Marketplace in Scottsdale insists it was motorola that crippled the bluetooth...Liar liar.
Another VZW company store told me theirs were recalled and they were told not to sell them anymore due to software problems.
The camera sucks in anything but bright sunlight. The FLASH...what a joke the thing doesnt work more than three inches from the camera. Great for all those close ups of coins we all want to take in the dark. I have ordered an audiovox 9900 made by toshiba, the reviews are smokin hot and the phone is totally free with new every 2. as opposed to $150 after mail in rebate. Verizon you suck for releasing this. Shame on you. Get it now is robbery.

Best phone in the world

Dec 12, 2004 by JGM4290

I got this phone last week and this phone has been nothing but fun. This phone is incredible you can do everything on this phone all my friends and family members have this phone and its cool if you have video camera because you can send stuff like that to each other. You can also upload your personal music into it by buying a data cable which allows you to put your favorite songs from your computer right to your phone thats just half of what you can do with this phone, the bluetooth for this phone is off the hook.

There are no negatives on this phone it pure beauty I love it.

I payed 250 for this

I'm being honest STAY AWAY FOM THIS ONE

There is only 1 thing good about this phone and that is the speaker phone.

#.1 The camera on this phone is garbage!!!

My buddy has a 2 year old Samsung thats not even a 1.3 mega pixel that takes 10 times better pictures. In bright bright light we are talking a solar blast, then the camera takes a so-so pic, but get into any darkness at all and you cant make out anything. What they call a flash on this thing is just a joke. Its useless doesn't help and was only put there so they could brag bout having a flash.

#.2 The battery is the worst battery i
have ever had, and half of the time it
won charge.

This battery lasts maybe for 2 hours talk time and thats it. And half of the time when i plug it in it wont charge. It actually gives me a stupid message "unable to charge" who wants a phone they have to plug and unplug over and over again to try and get it to charge?

#.3 I had this phone lock up on me
where i had to pull out the battery
just to get the phone functional
again.

#4. The memory is bunk. Half of the
phones now a days have 64 mb of memory
not a crappy 10. I know of phones 3
years ago that had more then 10.

To sum it up this phone is garbage. The only decent thing is the speaker phone. It is crystal clear and has crazy range, but who wants to spend hundreds of dollars on a speaker phone. This phone is going back and thats guarenteed. Anyone who defends this phone is just someone who cant take theirs back and doesn't want to admit that its junk. I guarentee you anyone who owns this phone for even just one day will say this is the biggest waste of money ever invented.

This is another bit of evidence to show that Motorola is going down hill. I used to love Motorola. My Time Port was the best phone i ever owned. I will never by another Motorola after this. Boo on you Motorola for even releasing such a piece of junk.

Everything I need in a phone...

Aug 11, 2004 by IceNine

Great menu style, easy to navigate, and jam packed with features...
First off, my only complaint with this phone is the ear piece volume. Yes, it does seem extremely low, but in crowded places I just use the amazing speakerphone and all problems are solved.
Another problem people seem to be having is the size of the v710....while it is definetely larger than my old Samsung a530, it fits comfortably in my hand and the dual screens are amazingly large--i could never go back to the small Samsung screens again. Voice recognition is AMAZING, Obeymoto is a great feature to compliment speakerphone, and the bluetooth headset (HS810) works like a charm
128mb t-flash lets me store pix and mp3's so I am nothing short of satisfied with this phone :)
