Motorolas in general

Aug 12, 2005 by nnswift

The v710 is a great phone. The reception is great and I love the blue tooth. One complaint i have about Motorola phones is the fact that they still use the 2 prong snake like charger instead of the usb. The charging port has went out on my phone twice and i have only had it for a year.

HIGHLY IMPRESSED

New V-710 Owner

Jan 8, 2005 by BT252

I just got my V710 (Verizon Wireless)in the mail today, and so far it's working just fine. My main issue with my previous phone (T-730) was reception. If I was'nt standing under an antenna the phone didn't work. During the first day of ownership of the V710 I used it under the same conditions and in the same locations that caused the T730 to fail, and the V710 did just fine.

Why all the complaints?

I don't see what all the complaints are about. I have been using this phone since October and have no major complaints. It has the best reception I have ever had using a cell phone, have never had to raise the antenna to get a signal (like the LG I switched from). I also have never experienced any of the software problems that other people have mentioned. It's a great looking phone, the display is awesome, and I dare you to find a better speakerphone. Yeah, the camera isn't much better than the 300K variety, but after the initial excitement I don't use it much. The HS820 bluetooth headset works flawlessly. I am very satisfied with this phone, it's by far the best phone Verizon offers. Most of the complaints regarding bluetooth functionality are the fault of Verizon, not Motorola. Verizon is a BUSINESS, there goal is to make MONEY. Of course they won't let you download pix to your PC and use MP3's as ringtones. But if Cingular/AT&T, T-Mobile or whoever could do the same you can bet they'd follow suit in a heartbeat. This phone isn't some cute, flashy, cheap POS (like my past LG and Audiovox phones). Overall I think this is a very solid effort from Motorola.

PRO'S:
- Great speakerphone (no one has been able to tell when I'm on speaker vs. handset)
- Display is awesome
- Fantastic voice recognition
- Excellent reception (in OH, KY, WV, VA & MI. Never failed on an 8 hour trip from Columbus, OH to Baltimore, MD).
- Works well with Bluetooth headset from Motorola (haven't tried Jabra)

CON'S
- Camera only marginally better than my old LG 6000
- Standard battery only gives 2 to 3 days between charges depending on usage (will try extended battery this weekend)
- Can't use MP3's from the flash card as ringtones (this is Verizon's doing. Motorola rep stated the phone is capable, but Verizon disabled it along with file transfers from PC)
- Menu's could be more straightforward; if you're new to Motorola you'll find you actually have to read the owner's manual.

710 or not to 710...

Nov 7, 2004 by VZdubGANGstarr

after reading all the reviews i have gathered it is a love hate relationship with this phone...

HATE:

i-tap...sucks...it makes me not want to text..

scrolling through the contacts...i cant stand how i have to scroll through all the B's to get to my boy "Brotha Mike"...it doesnt give me the option to start spelling his name and take me right to the "Br's"

picture quality...not exactly the greatest...i find more use for the light when i come home faded and cant find the keyhole

LOVE:

bluetooph! sicc wid it...makes people jealous...

phone looks cleeean

phone looks cleeean

phone looks cleeean

basically...if youre an "interior phone person" you probably wouldnt be able to tolerate this phone because its not very user friendly...

but if your an "exterior phone person" this phone looks the cleeeanesssst by far...

im a lil bit of both and ive had every verizon phone out there...i can put up with the menu navigational hurdles just cuz the phone looks dope! and has da bluetooph!

my 2 cents ;)

Cant Believe it

I carry verizon becuase one thing they do have is great reception, phones are awesome w/clearity, technology wise .... nope, that they don't have, till i had heard of the motorola v710 which was "going to be the s***." I waited about a month ,to me it was going to be the best 300 bucks to spend on. As i write this i have owned the phone maybe 1 day, the phone looks great, awesome size, slick look, nice pixs if your in good lighting, easy to manage, bluetooth enable,Mp3 playback, extra storage input.
One thing that I wasn't told when getting the phone, bluetooth doesn't sink up with all devices,I own the ipaq 5555 by HP and was hoping to bring info in and out with the phone, total disappointment, im disappointed in both verizon and motorola, making it harder on there customers, and there customers demands. Speakerphone ... I didn't really get into, i tried to get it to work so i talked to a representative and from what i was told it needs to have an accessory which connects to the phone which i think is BS making the motorola v600 by cingular a better phone in the motorola line.

Motorola V710 Decent but has its problems

Overall im please with the phone. I use to have a LG VX6000.

Besides the obvious issue's Bluetooth being Crippled, The Camera being offset. I like it more than the LGVX6000 it has more options and using an Application to edit and shrink the MP3's I can use a wide range of sounds as my ring tones. The video and camera are weak but decent considering it’s a phone.

If you are wanting to buy this phone mainly for camera or mp3 playing usage DON'T if you want a phone that offers a range of customizable options and half a tooth (bluetooth) than this one is a decent choice

Pros
Plays MP3 files as rintones.
Bluetooth Headset (excellent)
Front LCD can Show picture of person calling
Records Quick movies
Has Transflash which makes it easy for file backup/transferring.
Nice Big LCD
New Wireless web is in color.
Plenty of options.

Cons
Bluetooth is crippled
Storage for ring tones is 10MB
You cannot set Ring tones from the Transflash card you have to transferre it first to the phone.
Resident MP3's and Pictures cannot be deleted.

Bluetooth gets the ratings

I have had my v710 for over a month now and am generally pleased with the performance. I purchased the phone for the bluetooth capability and have really enjoyed using this feature. The HS810 headset and voice dialing feature makes for truly hands free calling. I did not want or need a picture phone, but since have found a few good uses for these features, even though the quality is only fair. Much has been said regarding picture quality, but it performs as well as a LG v6000 in my opinion. I had a few issues with sending picture messages at first, but a few calls to verizon cleared them up. Here are a few PROs and CONs.

PROs
-Bluetooth for headsets is great.
-attractive styling, reasonable size for feature content.
-voice dialing, name dial, and digit dial have worked flawlessly. I won't have another phone without these features.
-Internal display is large and clear.
-Reception is much better than previous phone (t730) and better than co-worker's LG v6000.

CONs
-Bluetooth can not be use to sync or share data with another bluetooth device.
-would sacrifice camera features for a smaller size
-camera "flash" is a joke. Does not seem to affect picture quality in low light conditions.
-External display could use more personalization / programmability.
-Antennae seems abnormally large
-accessing certain features through the menu can be cumbersome. e.g. video camera takes 7 or so key presses while the camera can be accessed from two different buttons with one press.

If any of the cons were higher on my list of priorities I would have scored the phone lower. However, for the features I was looking for, I feel completely satisfied.
