Its a Great Phone

Oct 20, 2004 by Caiman1900

So lets start here, as a phone this thing rocks. It has the best reception of any VZW phone I have used. Places where I used to get no service with other VZW phones, I get service now with the 710. The phone is easy to customize to your liking because of the numerous button shortcuts you have. The volume is definitely loud enough to hear, I used it on the tarmac on at an airport today and had no problems hearing the other person.

As far as the bluetooth, VZW says there is an update on the way to make it more functional, but who knows. The camera is adequate for a phone, I dont need real camera quality on my cell phone, but to take quick pics of people for the phone book it is fine.

The Best Phone So Far for Verizon!

Oct 11, 2004 by djsmoove

This is by far the best phone on the planet for Verizon. I must admit, I was a little skeptical at first about purchasing another Motorola due to past experiences and cost. I was tempted to buy the LG-4500, but I really wanted a tri-mode phone and I did not want the LG-3200, although it was tri-mode, but minus a external display. That's a biggie for me. I am so glad I took the advice of my sales rep here in the Twin Cites. The V710 & Verizon service is a AWESOME combination! I recently ported my number over from AT&T, which was the absolute worst service on the planet! AT&T GSM Network is a JOKE! And to top it off, I had the Motorola V600 which was a piece of CRAP! I never had so many drop calls in my life! Oh well, enough about AT&T (loosers). Now that I switch carriers and I have the Moto V710, life is great! I had my V710 for 3 weeks now and so far I haven't had a single drop call! I'm receiving signals in places I never could before, which can be frustrating. Below are my pros & cons:

Pros

Reception is crystal clear! (you will think that you are using a land line).

Large internal color screen is the best!

Ear-piece is nice and loud! (unlike previous moto's).

Speaker-phone is out this world. A++++

Voice dialing. A++++ (you don't have to train your voice for each phone book entry) Excellent job Motorola!

Record and store up to 45 15-second videos!

User friendly menus.

Slim design.

Cons

Battery life could be better. However, they have the extended batteries available.

The camera takes ok pictures, but who cares! It's mostly a phone not a camera.

The Bluetooth may be crippled, but I wouldn't know, because I don't have a desire to use it right now.

Overall, nothing compares! Not the new Audio 9900, LG-6000 or 7000 and maybe not the up & coming LG-8000, which is a all digital phone. The V710 is the best, hands down! It's worth the bucks$$$

V710 a review after a week

Aug 7, 2004 by ssmaharaj

well i have had this fone for about a week now and i have figured out how to do certain things with it and also what it cannot do. hope this helps.

Pros:
Excellent service capability (just ported from cingular in nyc).
SOund Quality is better than my V600 and louder as well.
Voice recognition is superb, no training needed and even picks up command with my accent.
User menu's are very easy and customisable.
Keypad is just right.

Cons:
NO infra-red
The phone first of all has no bluetooth support for data transfer (lack of obex protocol) but however i was able to pair it with my motorola hb-801 bluetooth headset with no trouble.
Motorola phone tools must be updated while V710 is connected to get proper drivers(liveupdate).
Phone tools doesnt allow uploading of any ringtones or pictures.
Camera is just as good as the one on the V600.
Feel takes getting used to.
Screens are basically viewable from head on and not from the sides(like old laptop screens).
Flash makes no diff to pictures.
Fone has GetItNow.

end of pros and cons-------------

now i have found a way get files onto this fone just send yourself and email to younumber@vzwpix.com this will allow you to get the ringtones and\or pictures in a text msg where you can then save them to fone.

now the only thing i can say i have not tested at all was the transflash card as i dont have one but all and all this fone is a very tight package and i would reccomend it. however just remember that its data transfer capabilities are somewhat crippled.

now VZW stores will tell you that the RS version is not as good as theirs, but the plain truth is every verizon store has them in their store rooms but they are not allowed to sell until the launch date so when they say they have the updated version i would think twice b4 listening to them. realistically the new flash\flex for the fone if there is one to come out will prob not be out till maybe sept\oct for the earliest.

My V710

So far i love it. its got a great and easy menu to follow. i think its actually windows CE. the screen is large and very sharp.

The volume is nice and loud both on the ear and speaker phone. i have the new bluetooth HS820 and it works awesome. nice and clear and easy to make calls with.

I love the voice dialing. i love that i can have photos attached to my caller id.

I'm still getting used to the strange keypad though cause they made them weird.

there are NO games on the phone which i think is cheap as i have a friend who has the V600 which is almost the same and its loaded with games.

so far i can only email myself photos and midi ring tones until MFT 3.0 comes out then i can xfer mp3's with my usb cable.

styling of the phone is cool. I've used the camera only a few times and the quality is ok. the flash is actually an led that isn't very bright so i doubt it would help much.

its just a tad heavier then my old T720 and just a slight bit longer.

the manual doesn't explain anything about the transflash card and what you can do with it other then how to install it.

overall its a great phone and i recomend it if your looking for a camera phone with all the extra bells and whistles. i primeraly bought it for the bluetooth, camera/video capabilities so I'm happy with it.

VZW and motorola equals success

This phone has great reception. No phone I have ever had with VZW has had bad reception. I have had better reception in places where my friends loose a signal. Even though Motorola claims the megapixel camera is great...if your not in good lighting you wont be impressed with this camera. I have had better. The video is better on this phone. The speaker is really loud...but they should have gave you the option to close the phone while on speakerphone...bluetooth works excellent...battery life isnt very long but when you have a phone with soo many features what do you expect? It is still pretty good though. I love the animations you can insert in txts...the wallpapers and ringtones you can download are awesome. and the mp3's i downloaded on the phone sound soooo good. Overall this phone is not for the timid. Only veteran cell phone users. I dont recommend this phone to someone just starting off...I have to say again though Reception is awesome but that just could be because it is used on VZW's network.

Pretty good phone for me

Ok i have been reading these reviews for a while and i still decided to get one for myself. partly because im hard headed and partly because i always thought i could make up my own mind. So after a week i can say that i dont agree with the harsh reviews of this phone. Do i think that its wrong for verizon to screw with the bluetooth? : yes
and do i think that it is a little on the hefty size?: yes

But heres the thing, you can still take the files off the phone with the trans flash and the a friend of mine at verizon says that they are going to release a firmware update that fixes the issues with bluetooth so you can use it fully.

As to the size i was using a vx-6000 before this and i thought that phone was the best, but i wanted more features and this phone has the features i wanted and its not really that much bigger than the vx-6000. and to think of all the features this phone has that others dont, like the video camera, the mp3 player, the half bluetooth, the best display ever(which was my one problem with the vx-6000 ), and themegapixel camera.

when you look at it from a stand point of what it has and not what it doesnt you can see it really is a great phone. not to mention my reception is better than the vx-6000.

so id say to anyone thats thinking about buying it, to read the reviews so you know what your getting and if you can live with the bluetooth being screwed up for now, then go ahead and fork over the cash because its worth it!!!!!!

I think I like it!!!

After frequenting this site I prepared myself for the good and bad when buying this phone... But I am largely satisfied with it, its good to have a moto again!!!

Here are some pros and cons I've noticed:

PROS

-Ambient Light Sensing Keypad
-Speaker-phone works amazingly
-Beautiful Screen
-Largest Outside Screen I've Ever Seen
-Looks (Damn its hot)
-Signal Strength (better than my VX6000)
-Battery Life (Better than I thought, lasts me a good day with harsh usage (camera use/constant speaker-phone and about 2 hours of talk-time and like 15 hours of standby)
-Alarm Clock
-Beautiful User Interface
-Bluetooth
-Audible Ring-tones and Alerts
-Nice assortment of Wallpapers and Ring-tones already on the phone
-VOICE RECOGNITION it works so well it scares me... (with that big lens on the outside and how the phone talks makes me think its like spying on me... creepy!!! =P)
-People can't tell I'm on a cell phone when I'm talk to them (even when I'm on speaker-phone!!!)
-this phone reminds me of my old v60 and those are good memories!!!

CONS (I'm just extra picky, don't mind me)

-Outter screens resolution could be better (only because you go from this gourgeous inner display to less than gorgeous outter)
-Earpiece volume is low but it also is good cause other people can't listen in (like on my VX6000)
-Earpiece sound also is not as crystal clear as my VX6000, its not the service its the speaker
-I've read that its prone to scratches that makes me nervous (i love this thing!! i don't want it all beat up!!!)
-Extendable antenna (haven't had to extend it once though and I've had perfect reception)
-Camera quality is not stellar but I'm more than happy with it (you must remind yourself its a phone first a camera second, i wouldn't have it any other way)

CONCLUSION

after all is said and done... I'm very happy with it and I'm glad to have a moto on my belt again!!! if anything i DEFIENTLY recommend you at least try it for 15 days!

not perfect, but good

Aug 11, 2004 by dr. dan

I bought a phone about 5 days ago from Radio Shack. A word of caution, one of the reviewers mentioned that ear piece volume was low. Mine was really low! I took the phone back the next day and got another one. Much better. If you experience the same problem, take the phone back immediately. The volume for prompts for voice recognition is also somewhat low, but that unfortunately cannot be changed.
Overall, here is my story:

PROS
-great reception, elevators and parking garages including.
-great pictures in good lighting.
-Bluetooth so far has been very impressive, good voice recognition. Need to speak clearly though.
-decent speaker phone.
-great looking phone, very stylish.

CONS
-the biggest let down for me was the camera. In good lighting works very well, however even in slightly lower lighting it is worthless. Very grainy. The flash is by no means the answer (I use it to find keys in the dark). Basically, forget about taking pics at clubs or at night.
-Scratches: one reviewer noticed scratches above the lens. I have the same problem, and I think it is from opening the lid and its rubbing against the memory slot cover. Bad design if you ask me.
-external caller ID picture is too small, LG 7000 had better one.
-feels slightly plastic-y (c/w V60).
-buy insurance! cost $500 to replace...
OVERALL:
4 stars because of camera issues. I realize it is just a phone, but the mark up for having a camera is huge, and in a $500 phone you expect it to work well.
LG 7000 is a great alternative for less money. But, V710 has enough bells and whistles to keep you happy and last you through another 2 year contract! Good luck!
