Fastest phone ever

Aug 12, 2004 by Madmorok

10 times as fast as my old 730 at least... even the VZW rep was impressed when I called to activate it.

Most impressed with Voice Dialing... Contacts were read back to me so no training was needed.

Picture Caller ID is wonderful and I found out by accident that I can make the ringing stop while viewing who's calling by hitting the up and down keys on the side.

wonderful stylish cell phone and most definatly geared up for business people.

High Expectations Largely Met

Very pleased with the phone overall - especially after all the hype and months of daily status checks.

Ported to Verizon after 7 years with T-Mobile in the Minneapolis area. Had the VX7000 for two weeks before switching to the desire v710 a couple days ago.

Pros:
-Excellent, responsive Keypad
-Large, Sharp internal LCD
-Easy to Navigate Menus - hardly had to use the manual
-Awesome Feature Set - BlueTooth, 1.2 MP Camera w/ "Flash", MP3, removable memory
-Superior sound quality - no dropped calls, sound is far sharper and less background noise than the LG 7000 regardless whether I'm using speakerphone, BT headset (HS820), or regular handset
-Perfect size/proportions for a flip phone

Cons:
-Menus, while easy to navigate, can be quite long. would be nice if there were shortcuts so I didn't have to scroll up/down so much.
-limited BlueTooth features other than BT Headset
-External LCD isn't as sharp as I would prefer
-Steep learning curve. I love all the features, but it takes a while become proficient with the phone (voice commands, etc) - due to plethora of options.
-included belt clip is very cheap and practically worthless

Strongly recommend the HS820 as a required accessory. I already had the Jabra BT-200 headset, but when I bought the phone on 8/10 (1 day before official release) and asked what accessories the VZW store had, he brought out his only accessory in stock - this beauty... Size and features are perferct. Additional bonus: the headset uses the same charger as the phone - so I can easily take it along. The 6 hrs talktime is plenty sufficient as well since I'm often on the phone for several hours a day.

Will order the 128MB trans-flash from Ebay when it gets in stock, as well as a better belt clip. Will wait for Mobile Phone Tools 3.0 to come out since MPT 2.0 seems to have problems with this phone.

Best phone since my old Timeport

After suffering through 2 agonizing years with the T720, I am happy to say that I finally have a GREAT Motorola phone again. I had no problem syncing the V710 to my HP Ipaq 5555 via bluetooth. I was even able to transfer pictures right away. The only downside I've found so far is the exterior display. After a minute or so, it turns off completely. I wish there were some way to just turn off the backlight but still be able to see the time, date, etc. without having to open up the phone. The old T720 displayed the time/date but the backlight would just turn off after a period of time. The ringer volume is greatly improved with the V710. On high volume, it's almost startling if your not expecting a call. Also, I'm so glad Motorola fixed the lag that plagued the T720. The V710 is very responsive when you're paging through menus, phone book, etc. I love the screen, love the camera, love the video with audio! Motorola made a few upgrades to the phone book. It's still not perfect, but better than the T720. The only other negative I noticed was the send/end button placement. Traditionally, Motorola phones have had the "send" button on the right and the "end" button on the left. Now it's switched like the LG and Samsung phones and it's a little more cumbersome for people like me who've been using Moto phones for a while. Overall, this phone is probably the best I've ever had! Way to go, Moto!

Awesome Phone!!!

Pros:
-Awesome reception
-Bluetooth*
-Large screens (external and internal)
-Excellent outdoor camera and video
-Very user friendly
-TransFlash
-Best in class voice recognition with lots of options other than name dial; camera, digit dial, and voicemail
-Crisp speaker phone (awesome clarity)
-Loud ring tones
-MP3 ring tones
-Vibrate function
-MMS, SMS, video through email
-Great styling
-Decent battery
-Very customizable
-Well worth price($250)
-Left send and right end buttons, great for new motorola users switching from samsung, nokia, and lg

Cons:
-External antenna
-" for camera is poor
-Indoor picture quality poor
*Not iSync compatible... hopefully for the 1.5 update which should include the v600 and v710 (mac user)
-Price on the expensive side

Addition: I highly reccomend this phone. If you're a new cellphone user spend the $50 to get this instead of the v600. Hopefully iTunes compatible if it comes out for it. Hopefully downloadable, not just for new Motorolas.

Great phone..only thing i hate is phone too sensitive to scratches

Great phone. good signal, sound quality,, mp3 ringers VERYYYYYYYYYY LOUD sometimes..

Don't like the phone faceplate or whatever u want to call it. its too sensitive to scratches. I will agree with someone else here that said they should have had removeable ones.. Also the inside LCD gets smudged too easily and have to repeating wipe it. Last but not least, the camera. Don't hate it but its just dump thats its 1.2 megapixel and other phone look so much better. oh well. Still love this phone.

Awesome!

I have owned many mobile phones since 1986. This is the best mobile phone for the money. I made the mistake of purchasing a non-Motorola phone two years ago that cost more money, that had less functionality, and that was difficult to use. The design of the v710, alone, blows the competition away. I primarily got this phone for the bluetooth technology, but I have been pleasantly surprised by all the other features. Everything works flawlessly. The controls and functions are intuitive. Cool design. Motorola has done it again! I'm impressed. This phone was worth the wait!

Really Like the v710, esp. with Bluetooth headset

Aug 9, 2004 by sgoldwa

Pros:
Excellent call quality
Bluetooth (even though not fully functional, I love it)
Tri-mode
Way more fun that other VZW Motos
Everything else listed in previous posts

Cons:
Battery life seems a lot shorter than my prior v60
Inside screen gets grimy with use, as others have noted
Bluetooth not fully functional, but this should be curable with Mobile Tools software
Directional earpiece -- as previously posted, you have to be right on it to hear the caller, but...

I bought the HS820 with my phone (Bluetooth headset). Using this, I don't even think I will USE the actual phone since I can accomplish so much via name & digit dialing using the BT headset. Isn't this the reason we all WANT this phone?

One other interesting observation: My friend just bought the v600 on AT&T Wireless last weekend, and we hung out today, pairing my headset with his phone, etc. so I got to compare. Overall I feel the v710 is better due to name dialing and digit dialing (both without training). His v600 required voice training and did not have digit dialing at all. This one feature alone makes the v710 a standout.

OK, the v600 DID have a few nice things. Its size is a bit smaller, and a bit more manageable. The number keys were a different color than the other function keys -- I am not sure why Motorola did not fashion the v710 after the 600 in this regard. And one last observation: the send/end keys are reversed on the 710. The 600 has its send key on the right, and end on the left (as Motorola has been doing for ages, against the industry trend). The 710 has been changed to be more standard (Send on left, end on right). I should warn you that if you've been a long-time Motorola person, this one change will take some getting used to! However, if you use your BT headset a lot of the time, a simple press of the multi-function button ends the call, so there should not be much of a problem.

In summary, if you are planning to use a Bluetooth heasdset, I think you'll be a happy camper.

HATE IT!!!

My husband and I both purchased this piece of **** last august when it came out. We were thrilled until both of our speakers went out. He went through 5 before buying a blackberry 11 months later and I'm on my 3rd!!!! Its not worth the hassle. The camera is terrible at best and half the time my alarms do not go off. Worst mistake I ever made. I used to love Motorola, but this may have been my last purchase from them!

Holy software glitches batman!!

Sep 9, 2005 by idreamoutloud

worst camera of any mobile phone out there.
my samsung .3 mega pixel takes far superior photos.
Why do you manually have to select the flash every single time you want to us it?

how may software glitches do these have? seems like every review someone has a problem and the store tells you "yah it'll happen with this phone, its got a few glitches" I'll say!, the processor is WAY too slow for the features in this phone.

sound quality is not that good, its always kinda distorted, like you're in an elevator or something.

Does the phone really need to be this big?

There was a time, not too long ago when the name Motorola stood for something, I used to work for a cellular provider, and I always swore by the Motorola name, but lately there products have been getting worse. Why is that motorola? I can see why Samsung has won so many awards for customer satisfaction.

Steer clear of the V710, its a pandora's box of troubles.

go check out what Samsungs offering, you'll be glad you did.

Super phone!

This is the fifth Motorola phone I have owned and this is by far the best. It is loaded with features and is fun to use! I love the graphics and the customizable features on this phone.

I have taken pictures, downloaded games, since i got the phone 12 hours ago, and the battery still has a great charge. I have also called people and have been playing with it and trying to learn everything I can about it. It is fun!

The display on the phone is crystal clear. And to save battery life, I have dimmed the display a bit. If I get 2 years out of it like I did with my T730, then I will be happy. My T730 still works, but I took advantage of the "New every Two" program at Verizon. If you order off the website, the V710 is free.

Don't believe the negative reviews. We are spoiled with 5.0 mega pixel cameras, that when we go back to one that is only 1.2, we scream that this is a violation by Motorola! How ridiculous. It takes 1.2 quality pictures and the video capture is about what I'd expect.Someday 5.0 technology will be in phones and people will be screaming that this is not good enough! Considering that the original bag phones were bricks, the fact that this phone has Bluetooth, is digital, has alot of applications like a decent calendar, and many other cool things, is an absolute miracle!

I'm sure glad I did not get scared off by the negative reviews!
