Palm Treo 650 (CDMA)

I'm hoping VZW has stock and will wait until it hits retail here on the 23rd.

Ok, we all had high hopes about this phone and now it's here and it isn't that great of a phone. I ordered mine on the 11th and received it on the 12th. I mean the features are great and everything but the damn thing isn't too great as a PHONE! The service is alright but what disturbs me is the sound quality and the volume. I feel like I'm talking to someone in Egypt, I can barely hear my friends and family when I speak to them. The volume is too low and the sound quality is bad. The Internet is pretty slow too. While I talk on the phone the phones screen gets really oily from my face and you have no choice but to stick the phone to your face because you can't hear too well. You can't dial a number on that small keypad in the car it tak...

For all those that have received their 650 from Verizon, is WirelessSync and Mail already installed, or did it come with a separate CD like the 600? The only reason I ask is that I am now running Mac's both at home and at the office and I know I had to load that program on a windows machine.

Today I walked into a VZ store in the Atlanta region and asked about the phone. The rep was in an info lag, claimed business would get it May 24, retail in June. When I asked about EVDO, he said yes, subject to final testing.

Then the guy he was serving piped up and said he was with a company installing network equip for VZ and said he had been testing the 650 with the equipment they were installing. He said the phone had EVDO capability built into it; he confirmed that whether it would be offered depended on successful completion of testing.

He did say I would like it (the 650)!

Would like to see confirmation from someone who has received the phone about EVDO.

Any pda type phone that was going to come at this time simply had to have EVDO to be viable. Had they released the Treo 650 before Verizon told us to anticipate EVDO product(s) in May, then they could have unloaded a good deal more. However, who in their right mind gets into a contract with technology that is months away from being totally trumped by EVDO.

The Samsung i730 makes all the sense in the world now.

I don't expect that any of you have gotten your Verizon phones yet but I am interested to know if the same bluetooth "hack" for the DUN profile that works on other verisons of the phone (ie Cingular) work with the Verizon verison also. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My salesman hooked me up got it for $141 - be here Friday - he is on th eroad and put it for 2 day - I wanted next day but he can not get to a CPU right now.

I notice that the 6600 camera has FLASH which can sometimes be essential if you need the photo.

What what are the advantages / disadvantages of Palm vs the Windows interface ???

Which offers the FASTEST / EASIEST TO USE / and MOST "FUNCTIONAL" PDA features ???

Which offers the most versatle ALARM features .. (I keep forgetting meetings and want an alarm approx .5 or 1 HOUR "earlier" than the actual meeting) ???

Which offers the most optional plug-ins ???
(I need a FINANCIAL and SCIENTIFIC calculator)

Whos plug-in are cheapest ??? and most easily available ???

I have been hearing more and more about phones instabilities and users needing to reboot or pull the battery every day or two. Also, that the PDA portion is slow and the email program still has issues. This is from experienced users that are using it on Sprint or Cingular and are familiar with how to update the phone and get the latest fixes.

Has anyone heard anymore or have any input or ideas. Up until 30 days ago, I was also watching this forum daily, but now I am getting nervous and wondering if the Blackberry color with Bluetooth is the better option.

A call to a VZW rep and some questioning produced the answer that May 2nd will be the realease date for Biz-to-Biz customers. For everyone else, probably looking early June.

😕 I find it interesting that nothing has been said by VZW about EVDO on this phone (either one way or the other). Does anyone have any new or "sourced" information on this?

if you use versa mail to snyc your calander do not upgrade the rom on your treo. the new rom 1.08 disables the calander feature on the treo 650

They don't really provide a source but they have a countdown on their main page which is supposed to end today (the 20th).

I doubt its true seeing as how not one of the 5 verizon stores in manhattan has a CLUE about the treo 650. I mean, they didn't even say 'its coming soon' just "i dont know at all" or "eventually."

I learned from a reliable today that Verizon will be making the Treo 650 available for shipping the first week and May.
