I notice that the 6600 camera has FLASH which can sometimes be essential if you need the photo.

What what are the advantages / disadvantages of Palm vs the Windows interface ???

Which offers the FASTEST / EASIEST TO USE / and MOST "FUNCTIONAL" PDA features ???

Which offers the most versatle ALARM features .. (I keep forgetting meetings and want an alarm approx .5 or 1 HOUR "earlier" than the actual meeting) ???

Which offers the most optional plug-ins ???
(I need a FINANCIAL and SCIENTIFIC calculator)

Whos plug-in are cheapest ??? and most easily available ???

thanks

I've used both Palm and Windows, and I prefer the Palm for its ease of use and its functionality. My 600 allows me to change alarms like you mentioned and I've got PowerOne calculater which is a decent financial and scientific calc.

I appreciate that response. I have also heard that "Palm" is faster/quicker ...

BUT: .. I wonder if the "NEW" (second-edition) Windows Mobile just now being released on the newer phones will be more competitive with Palm ???

I'll also throw in my preference for Palm OS. I had decided on the Treo600 before I heard the announcement. I am enthralled by the idea of the Treo with bluetooth and the nicer screen, both of which the 6600 will have, but I'll probably still wait out the 650 or just deal with the 600 rather than bow to microsoft.
Also, as I said in my other post, the 6600 will be the non-camera version on release w/ VZW, presumably because it will be business targeted and many corporations will not allow camera phones for security reasons (same reason the Treo is available with or without).

Well .. I certainly share your disdain for Micro S--t ... (and Bill Gates in particular).

BUT ... the new 6601 will have a camera WITH "FLASH" ... and that seems very useful.

And I do have to admit I am still curious if the new "second-edition" of the Windows platform will be easier to use.

IF it is "as-easy-to-use" ... AND offers more/additional features than the Palm ... then I may be willing to give them "credit" for FINALLY getting "something" right.

I've also been considering both phones. I've heard that palm OS is more stable than Pocket PC.

I'm concerned about the small memory on the 650/600 vs the 6600/6601.

I like the qwerty keyboard on the 6600.

Web access speed is important to me. Treo 600 web speed is crawling. (I'm in Chicago). 6600 is supposed to support faster speeds (EV-DO) if/when the carrier provides it (in some markets Verizon is supposed to already - not sure about Chicago).

I know people with the Treo 600 who like them a lot. 6600 will be a new product ...

I welcome comments.

Well, I have tried the (Sprint) PPC-6600... I loved the phone but could get the thing to connect to my business e-mail server to send/respond to any mail without using the *Business Connection* service which only allows you send an email if the computer that you have setup to forward your emails.
Although the Treo 600 and 650 can receive, as well as send emails without any additional software, and your office computer does NOT have to be connected to sync/tranfer emails. So, I would suggest the 650 until they figure out how to get the Pocket PC 2003 mess to connect realistically...

Agreed... As I mentioned in my review of the 6600, it does not sync easily with corporate email. The 600s, according to my IT guy, are much easier. Syncing with my work email is essential for me. If you want to receive emails on your phone and need to sync automatically with your inbox, do NOT purchase the 6600.

. I had to finally give up on my second 6600 for poor battery life ..
My new 650 is ordered and set for delivery with in 3 to 5 days I did all the battery conservation techniques that I could find and still lost data by 2 pm .. I loved the functionality of the 6600. I hear of other people who charge and change batteries as much as three times a day . cant use it no mater how cool it is if it don’t run…I watched the battery level drop from 83 percent to 76 percent just sitting on my desk in about 35 min while talking to Vzw service. Has any one else had any better experience? Ps I think I am only a moderate user – 3000 phone min per months mostly on my I610 – 3 to 6 web pages per day and twice a day email check -the calendar three to ten t...

I just bought a 6600 and am returning it.
Overall, it is an excellent PDA/phone, and I have been a Windows Mobile user for several years. However, I had wanted to get this model specifically for the Bluetooth technology, but it DOES NOT WORK!!! [Or rather, it works 5% of the time.] And when the PDA goes into "sleep" mode, it will not work! Verizon says that Audiovox is working on the problem, but when I spend this much money, I don't want promises.
So I am going to get a Treo 650. Only one concern. I use the PDA a lot with Microscoft Outlook, and occasionally with Word & Excel. Any synchronization problems?
