Audiovox SMT 5600 / SPV C500 (HTC Typhoon)

A salesperson at a Cingular store in Arizona told me that Cingular would soon be offering a Cingular-branded version of the Audiovox SMT5600 (formerly offered by AT&T).

Has anyone else heard this? If so, what is the timeframe for this to happen? Cingular's cust service number was useless on this info.

Of course, I would really be impressed if Cingular offered the i-Mate SP3i instead of the SMT5600 -- it's the same phone from a size/feature perspective, but the i-mate is MUCH sleeker and attractive, plus I don't think it will scuff as easily as the Audiovox ones seem to be doing.

Just got an SMT 5600 unlocked off of ebay. I migrated my old TDMA att account to a Cingular plan. Put sim in works fine, but I have the same issue that every one has had with the internet connection- Can not get anything. No settings seems to work. Tried all the fourms out there and all the diffrent settings(WAP,GPRS,Proxy) people have claimed worked- but nothing. Called Tech desk at Cincular and given the same story I expected to hear "we don't support the phone" but they gave me some basic settings. Rep said I would need to register my account online and check the option for accsess medianet. Cingular account site has been down all day. Since the new settings my phone periodically beeps and says unable to communicate with netw...

I am trying to figure out what frequncy the local towers are using. Does anyone know if there is there any way to get this information from te 5600? It would also be greate to get the recieve DB. I want to know this to hook up a repeater and they are mostly band specific.

I can lock it on to the Cingular network (I think it is 310410) which I THINK is 850 (and still shows as roam), or, lock it onto ATT which I THINK is 1900 (in north virginia), but there is a lot of guessing here.

i was wondering how long (approx.) the 5600 takes from when you press the power button until the home screen appaers and the phone is ready to use. i looked at it the other day in the store but i had to go, it seemed like a long time. thanks everyone

When I try and send an MMS message from my YAHOO account to the mmode.com address of my phone, it routes it to the TEXT messages and I cannot view the pic.

How can I send pics to my phone and save them? I may not understand the MMS feature well enough as I am able to send them.

I just purchased this phone from a local T-mobile rep that offers unlocked GSM phones.

Upon activating it with my T-mobile service, I was told Tmobile does not support any Smart Phones and that data service will not work at all.

Does anyone this phone with TM? If so, what did you tell the rep to get the data portion set-up properly?

I am porting j2me midp 2.0 games to AudioVox 5600. I called setFullScreenMode(true) and didn't implement CommandListener but 2 empty buttons still appear in my game.
Please confirm me that j2me midp 2.0 games on AudioVox can set full screen or not. If it can set full screen , please instruct me .

Right where the signal strength there is g instead of the antenna. this happens even if im not using the internet. and i get rid of i. what can i do? i dont want to be charged for downloading from the internet. any help would be grateful

Happened twice now, the phone is really low on battery, I put it on to charge and it won't take it. It runs out of battery and never wakes up. I'm now on my third handset in just over a month.

Orange (gawd bless-em) replaced everything the last time; Battery, handset, charger, the lot and it happened again. I tried everything including changing charger (usb to mains) taking out the sim, taking out the sd card and it just wouldn't come back to life.

Any suggestions?

Well, the Audiovox SMT 5600 is available from attwireless.com, but they suck. They require that you buy their data plan for the life of the phone. So you cannot buy the phone if you do not want their crappy mMode service. Also, you can't cancel the data plan later without canceling your service. So even if I get the data plan now, I can't cancel it later without canceling my service altogether.

Also, you can't use this phone on a shared minutes plan because of the data requirement. My wife has been looking to switch carriers, and I figured I could just add her to my plan. But I guess not.

I want this phone for Outlook synchronization and as an MP3 player. So I couldn't give a rats a** about having a data plan. As far as I'm concerned, ...

anyone know if there's a way to change the number of rings? i find myself getting to my phone just as it stops ringing and getting a "could not receive call" error. can i make it ring longer?

I just got this phone the 5600 and its unlocked. But it still says att wireless instead of cingular as the network its on. Is this right? i can make phone calls with it and everything

I purchased my SMT 5600 (AT&T) from eBay, unlocked it, activated with Cingular, and changed the data/internet setting so that everything works. I got a pretty good deal, but the phone didn't come with the software CD. What's on the CD that I'm missing? I downloaded ActiveSync, so that's not a problem. Is there anything on the CD that I need or should have?

I am having a problem with my signal strength. I am in the Phoenix area and It is pretty good most of the time but for some reason, it is dead in my office.

The strange thing is that if I am out and then come back to the office, it holds the signal for a while before losing it. I don't know much about cell phones, but is this normal? I read something about being able to manually lock on to a signal. Has anyone been able do fix a dead spot like this? Is there any way to boost a signal?

I use Outlook 2003, and have lots of Notes that I would like to sync to my smartphone. I can't find how to do this, or if it's possible. Any Ideas?

How can I tell what version of window mobile I have....and can I upgrade to the latest version?

I think the internal antenna has become detached on my phone. The reception has declined (especially when walking or otherwise shaking the phone while talking), and there is a rattling when you shake it back and forth. Has anyone experienced a similiar problem, or had any experience dealing with Audiovox's warranty (it is a 1 year warranty)?

I don't really consider myself an abnormally tough cell phone user, but it is showing some wear and tear and i'm sure i've dropped it once or twice.

How is the volume on this phone? Like the speakerphone, ringtone and the earpiece. I just got the mpx220 and i can on it, but the ringtones and speakerphone are pretty low.

If i buy the 5600 from ebay or somewhere else and get it unlocked. Would i be able to return the mpx220 i just bought from cingular? I cant stand the mpx220 and cingular doesnt know when they are getting the audiovox 5600 in.

My SMT 5600 keeps periodically popping up a screen that says something about "STK service" and I have to abort/cancel it with a few clicks.

What is this and/or how do I make it stop.

I have a voice plan but no data plan if that helps diagnose it any.
