SMT 5600 + Spint ... is it possible?

Does Sprint support GSM phones on there network?

I own a Audiovox SMT 5600, but AT&T is garbage. I've just canceled my service with AT&T and i'm stuck with the phone now.

Since I already have a plan with Sprint, I was thinking about just using the SMT 5600 on my sprint plan instead of using my old phone. Is it possible? Thanks.

(Also, I've read that using Cingular it is possible to use network features like text msgs and internet. Is it possible to use them with Sprint as well? I assume the method would be the same.)

Cingular and Microsoft Deliver New Windows Mobile-Based Devices

Has anyone else read this article that claims Cingular, not AT&T carry the Audiovox 5600?

"Cingular Wireless currently offers the following devices that rely on Windows Mobile software:

Equipped with Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition software for Smartphones, it is the first Smartphone with Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 Mobile. SMT 5600, voice dialing

Voice dialing.

I was under the impression that you dont need to set voicetags or train this phone for voice automation. Does anyone know for sure and if so do they you know how to do this with out training the phone?

thanks

Two bluetooth questions

First, will I be able to access the Internet from my bluetooth enabled PC via this phone's GPRS feature? i.e. while sitting in an airport?

And secondly, What does the Bluetooth "Class 2" designation on this phones info tab on this site mean?

Thanks!

Accessing Internet Through Bluetooth Connection on My PC

Has anyone been able to to setup access the internet through the bluetooth connection on their PC. I just got an Audiovox SMT5600 and have successfully setup the bluetooth connection for ActiveSync. I have also setup the Network Access as a bluetooth service on my PC and can see that it is active and shared when I look at my network connection.

It shows
Bluetooth Network
LAN or High-Speed Internet
Connected, Shared, Firewalled
Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver
IP Address: (IP Address)
Subnet Mask: (Mask)
Automatic Private Address

When I right click on it and pick status it shows Connected and the Speed 700 Kbps.

My problem is that I can figure out how to setup the connection from my phone to the PC so that it uses the PC as ...

XXX

now that this has your attention. I have two questions for you. is the internet explorer on this phone accatual internet or Wap ( i know it is WAP) but does it display the real web page like my CPU will or does it have this filtered internet like my Ericsson T616 has? my second one is simple. will this phone work from amazon.com (an at&t phone) on my cingular sim card with no problems using that unlock method. and by perfect i want my WAP to connect, my text to work (no need for me to send photos), and i can not have cingular send in the feds to kick down my door for breaking some anti- nerd / protect the 500 company law.

question about flashing

has anyone got this working on 900/1800/1900 on unbranded firmware? has anyone figured out a way to get this phone to be quad band using a hybrid of both firmwares?

Please Help - Noise During Calls

I need to know soon if I should replace my new 5600. My wife says sometimes (not always) when I'm talking to her on my phone she hears this noise like a tea kettle whining really high pitched. It continues to get higher until it disappears. If I listen real hard I can hear it too. It's not that bad, but if it's something out of the ordinary I'd like to get it replaced.
Anyone else have this sort of problem? Should I get it replaced? I'd hate to be without a phone for 2 weeks or more, but I don't want a bum phone. Please give me advice!!! 🙂

Thanks, -BL

Mini SD Size Question

I am waiting to recieve this phone but wondered if this will take a 512 MB Mini SD?
Everything I've read said it accepts up to 256, but nowhere I've seen says 512. Anyone know this for sure or have experience with it. I'd love to have 512 to put some video on it. Thanks in advance.

Losing ringtones when powering off?

I've run into the first irritating problem with this almost perfect phone... it seems that if you place a ringtone (for me, I'm using a midi file) into the "My Sounds" folder, it actually places this file into temporary memory. So, if you power off and back on, the file has been deleted. Anybody know a way to get a ringtone into the "My Sounds" directory (so that it is recognized as a ringtone) AND have it remain in permanent memory? Any advice is appreciated.

opening phone/screen obstruction removal

I already sent the phone in once to have the screen cleared of dust and now it is dusty again. They said they'd seal it, but clearly they did not. I have the 4 screws out (they took of the warranty sticker and did not replace it luckily) but still cannot get the top panel off. I can pry in between the silver side piece and top black piece but it feels as though I am forcing it. Compressed air alone only moves the particles around. Please help! Thanks.

Update on Data Plan from AT&T

For what I am sure is a very limited time only (and probably limited to the two or three reps at AT&T who know what they are doing), I was able to add the $25/mo unlimited data plan to my existing cell account--something I was not able to do a few weeks ago when I first ordered this phone.

As is usually the case, I am sure this has EVERYTHING to do with which rep you talk to, so if you don't get the answer you want the first time, hang up and call back again. Yeah, it's a pain, but it works.

Contacts question

I love the unlimited contact list with notes. I previously had a PDA phone and wanted a system similar to the Samsung PDA phone I had and this is it.

One thing I can't do with the 5600 is search in the contacts and appointments for a keyword. ex: what were the dates of my last three appointments with client X? (search keyword X)
What hotel did I last use in Baltimore? (search keyword Baltimore)

Any ideas?

Voice Tag Limits ?

I am adding voice tags to my contacts to allow voice dialing. I can add about 16 of these, then when I attempt to add additional voice tags, I get the normal beep to indicate that I should speak the voice tag, but the phone will not accept any additional tags. Is there a limit to the number of voice tags? The manual mentions no limit. As such, I assumed that I could add as many voice tags as I wanted to. Anyone know if there are limits, or if my phone is experiencing a glitch?

I had envision being able to us my bluetooth headset and call any of my contacts by speaking their name. Everything including my Bluetrek G2 headset works great for the 16 tags that I have recorded. Just a little bummed that I can not add more tags.

Contact List and Sim card

I just got mt 5600 less than a week ago, and am still finding my way around it.

On my old phone, my phone numbers were backed up to my sim card for storage purposes only, and I had the option to only see one copy of the list as my "contact list".

Now that I have a phone that can sync up with my computer, am I correct in stating that the only purpose of the sim card would be to keep a spare copy of the list in case I use another phone?

At this point I have all of my contacts backed up to the card, and when I call up my contacts list, I see all of the numbers twice.

Is it possible to see just the numbers stored in the phone?

No Audiovox in-store

I returned my Audiovox yesterday and noticed that the former AT&T now Cingular stores didn't even have them on display anymore. As I was returning mine it caught a consumer's eye and he asked the salesman for it. The salesman said he didn't show him that one for a reason...I didn't overhear the rest of the convo.

I asked my salesman if the phone would be made available on Cingular and he said there aren't any plans for that at this time.

While I returned it in favor of the Motorola Razr V3, the Audiovox SMT is an awesome awesome phone! It's NEW, so I don't see how in the world they'll just DUMP it, esp. when there's no equivalent Cingular phone in terms of size & features.

For those who missed out like that customer asking for it...
