Are Cingular GRPS settings universial?
Hello All:
Just got an SMT 5600 unlocked off of ebay. I migrated my old TDMA att account to a Cingular plan. Put sim in works fine, but I have the same issue that every one has had with the internet connection- Can not get anything. No settings seems to work. Tried all the fourms out there and all the diffrent settings(WAP,GPRS,Proxy) people have claimed worked- but nothing. Called Tech desk at Cincular and given the same story I expected to hear "we don't support the phone" but they gave me some basic settings. Rep said I would need to register my account online and check the option for accsess medianet. Cingular account site has been down all day. Since the new settings my phone periodically beeps and says unable to communicate with netw...

Is this the only way to get an SMT 5600...buy an unlocked one and go through Cingular? I talked to Cingular and Audiovox, they seem clueless on whether Cingular will start using them.
Anyone else know of any candybar Windows Mobile phone comparable?

The business unit from ATT is still selling them. If your company has discounts through Cingular you can get them for under $200.

I finally got my 5600 up and running at 100% the other week. I went to Howard Forums and found a poster named "Beyond the tech". Goto Howard and do a search to find this poster. He has made a zip file with all the settings. Good Luck

I searched all threads with beyondthetech participating. 240 threads. I did not go through each thread looking for the zip file but I will do that tomorrow. I did find a .cab file which apparently works but have not tried that. If you have a readily available link to that zip file let me know, otherwise I will search for it again tomorrow.

It is in the Mobile gadget News forums under North American Wireless carriers under Cingular. The thread with the cab file is locked in as the first file.

Here are the Settings for using Cingular's MediaNet service. Media Works is WAP only but internet access is gained via a proxy.
1) Goto Data Connections
Start>Settings>More>Data Connections
2) Delete all existing connections so there is no chance of a conflict
Menu>Edit Connections>Proxy Connections>Menu>Delete>Done
GPRS Connections>Menu>Delete>Done
...repeat until all are gone. Click DONE
3) Next create a WAP Connection
GPRS Connections>Menu>Add
Description: Cingular WAP
Access Point: WAP.CINGULAR
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
IP Address:
...click DONE...click DONE
4) Next you need to create a proxy connection that will point any prog...
