Would like some feedback from owners of this phone...

Hi all,

I'm currently the proud owner of the Audiovox SMT5600, and I love the OS, but I am partial to the clamshell form factor. I'm seriously considering switching to this Motorola phone for this reason.

I first wanted to get some feedback from owners of the phone. Do you recommend it? I have read more negative reviews than positive reviews, so I'm naturally a little hesitant. I am fully aware of the issue with the firmward update, and some of the reviews I read were pre-update, but, many were post-update too!

I want to hear it straight from some of you here on the board. There doesn't seem to be enough reviews in the "User Reviews" tab for this particular phone, plus it looks like many were pre-firmware update.

Any feedbac...

Voice quality vs. V600

Hi all,

I recently had a V600 which I gave to a relative overseas, so at the moment I am stuck using my original (but horrid) SE T316. Anyways, the mpx220 has caught my interest, and I was wondering how the earpiece and speakerphone volume (with updated f/w) compares to a V600. If they are similar, I may get an mpx220; aside from the costly V3, none of the other motorolas seem appealing to me.

Sync Problems

I'm having problems syncing my phone with Outlook on my computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Active Sync software three times and still unable to sync. Can anyone with this phone assist me? I spoke to Cingular's tech support today and the gentleman told me that's not Cingular's porblem. It's a Motorola problem and for me to call them. The number I was given is a fax number. Also, that's bad customer service to carry a phone and know nothing about it. I also tried Windows support, but could only find support for the MPX 200--not the MPX 220. I am baffled. I paid a lot of money for this phone and could have purchased a Treo for this price and that's all of the help I could get from Cingular. This seems to be the beginning...

Anyone working from a Mac with the MPx220? I'm interested in downloading contacts from Apples' Addressbook application. For that matter, how do you feel about pocket pc? Is there a mac version?

All help appreciated.

Data plans on Cingular vs. AT&T?

I originally bought the MPx220 at Best Buy the day it came out. I had all the issues that have since been fixed (low volume, buggy, etc..) and even tried a 2nd one thinking that my first just a defective unit. Best Buy didn't believe me until they started getting all of their units back.

Still wanting a Windows Mobile Smartphone, I got the AT&T Audiovox Smartphone (am already an AT&T customer) and have been very happy with it, aside from still wanting a clamshell rather than a candy-bar style.

At first, AT&T required me to get their unlimited "PDA/Blackberry" data plan ($49.99/month). Then after reading the forums about not needing this plan, I swapped out for the unlimited mmode plan ($25/month). That plan didn't work well as many...

Also what does cingular mean by 1MB of web.. can we pass that easily, and if so can you give an example,please?..thnx..

To get new Firmware Model

I recently bought the MPX220 from Best Buy (the .342 firmware model). I called the Cingular Exchange by Mail Number
(1-800-801-1101) and told them that I was told to call this number to get sent a new model with the new firmware (1.3). The woman didn't seem to know what I was talking about at first, but I was insistent, so she looked it up or asked someone and came back and said ok, we can take care of that for you. They're shipping it for free along with pre-paid shipping to send the old phone back.
I'm not sure when Best Buy is getting the new stock of black sticker models.
I love this phone, but I am getting lines with my pictures and the speakerphone is pretty weak. Hopefully the new firmware will fix this. 😁

No Use for MPx220 on Cingular!

Anybody that buys this phone and expects to get all the functionality as promised will be sadly dissapointed. It does not: 1. work as a modem 2. download POP3 email using Messaging 3. Allow you to access the internet using your bluetooth PDA. It's a great phone, but those business people that need mobile office functionality/connectivity need to know; this will not be your solution. It's so bad, Cingular has authorized me to cancel my account because they acknowledge they don't support it! The phone works great (so what?!) and the outlook info synchs easily (as it should!). I have expended countless hours to find all this out.

Waiting for my Blackberry...

☚ī¸ I've been trying for a week to get the browswer and email to work (pop3). After speaking with Cingular tech support, I brought the phone back to exchange. The store (one of the larger ones in Atlanta) didn't have one in stock so they are going to get me the Blackberry 7290. The salesperson acknowledged that they weren't really selling the MPX 220. Think I'll wait 6 months and see if the MPX is any better. It's a shame. I liked the functionality that the MPX 220 promised.

Cheers,

External LCD Display Pix

I have placed some pictures into my LCD folder. The pictures are jpg files. Yet, when I click on these pictures for the external lcd, it goes to the default picture. I also took some pictures with the camera on the phone and put those pictures into the LCD folder, as well and I notice that also goes to the default pictures as well. Any suggestions? Has anyone tried this?

Best Buy just pulled this phone from the shelves

just went in to see if B.Buy had by chance gotten a new batch of phones with the updated firmware in.

And..... was told point blank by the sales guy that they had just packed all of these up and sent them back but did expect to receive an updated version "sometime" in the future.

I guess those a$$ munching dipsticks that posted here that there was no problem with the volume and that people's hearing must just be bad might have been a bit WRONG.

anyway, I am just irritated that Cingular and Moto let the phones go so far and are yanking them back now. So much for Cingular's "we test all phones extensively with at least 600 users before they go to market" BS. Bite me Cingular and Moto. Fix your phone and it will be a great one. ple...

After reading all these forums/reviews I'm doubting the mpx220. đŸ˜ĸ Does anybody know anything about the mpx300? 😲 DO u think it's any better?Should I wait?/... I really need ur help guys/gals should I really buy this phone? ☚ī¸ Is it worth it... 🙄 also If I were to buy the phone from another website besides cingular/bestbuy 4 example (1800mobiles.com) can I still get the updated version for free from Cingular?

Cingular XMB (xchange by mail)

Cingular XBM (1-800-801-1101)

Call them and get your f/w 1.30 but you must be a cingular customer to get the replacement phone and you then have to ship your old phone to them (prepaid). I got mine and it is night and day from the other two f/w versions. Don't give up on this phone just yet--This f/w is where the phone should have been when it was released for sale at Best Buy
