OK, is it just my phone or is the 970 slow as @#@$$%
by Dee L    Nov 7, 2005, 6:50 PM
in the Samsung SCH-A970 forum

I have a confession everyone, just yesterday I turned my service back over to the 6100, from the a970. My main beef: USING IT. I don't have a problem with any of the aethetics, such as flip with rotate, buttons, size, screens, etc. My problem is that its just sooo damnnnn sloooowwww. Perhaps this is just coming from someone who texts a lot (and maybe this is just MY phone), but going from one menu to another, pressing number keys in general, EVERYTHING is just so slow. Even more annoying, sometimes a keystroke doesn't commit. You actually get used to waiting for the screen to update according to your input, and sometimes what you press never happens. Take for instance, if I were to call home. As soon as I open the phone, I hit Contacts ..and I wait a second. Then I hit H, then O to bring it to "Home." Sometimes it takes a second, and follows thru and brings me to Home on my list. Sometimes the H takes, but not the O (after waiting a second). Sometimes the O takes, but not the H. Sometimes I just want to huck this garbage off the Golden Gate Bridge! Does anyone else share my pain!!??!! Please, all feedback appreciated.

Exactly............you're learning already....and I thought I was going to have to enroll you in the special olymics....... The phone is not manufactured to everyone's exacting tolerances, and I have yet to encounter anything that preforms flawlessly, right out the gate, that is why they have "revisions", like software, hardware, etc........ But you DON'T need to sit around and CRY about it, deal with it........like everyone else does....... mrdeth, you're an exception, you probably find it hard to look at "yourself" in the mirror and deal with what is staring back at YOU  vpu2....OUT!!!!

My daycare providers son is Autistic. He wanders out of the house and yard when the gate isn't locked. This could be a great feature for her 10 year old Autistic son. He is smart enough to use the phone and if he wore it around his neck, he would have it with him at all times.

Mid-December I've heard. It's to bad a staring phone, by many reviews, and 8 months in the waiting, brought a phone out that was lame out of the gate. I want to see that phone make it. There are no other phones in the american market that come close. (Thinking mostly of a symbian phone.) From what Nokia TS told me, it was incompatence by Cinular's SIM card programing that dumps the call log information.

The only reason we are not selling the phone right now is because the 6682 can't use the UICC (3G) SIM. That is a full fledged Nokia problem... Even LG followed the instruction.

Re: SLVR L7 at Cingular

I can tell you that it is on the comparison matrix for Jan. '06, but no specs or pricing info is given. Also it does NOT appear on the rebate form through Feb. 11th, though I wouldn't bet on it having a rebate right out of the gate. Considering that the L7 is the only phone on the comparison matrix for which there are no listed specs I would surmise that it will not be released during January. I've heard rumors from higher up that it may have iTunes capability, if that's the case you may see a price reduction on the ROKR followed shortly by the L7 replacing it in Cingular's lineup. (Much like the w600i replaced the s710a.) I can't honestly see the ROKR surviving in the same lineup with an iTunes equipped L7 or RAZR, after all, it barely stays afloat now.

Re: Ringtones for this phone!

Thanks for the reply u27554. After going through the forum it is apparent that the DRM is the 'Gate Keeper' (so to speak) for custom ringtones . I agree that it is a very nice phone and I will reluctantly live with the Ringtone selection (as limited as it is :x ). But, I would like to point out again that Phonescoop specs state that this phone 'supports' MP3 AAC ringtone which is vague and misleading :? . Before I signed the Verizon agreement I was aware that they limited their customers to GetItNow for ringtones and the like. Currently, Verizon is offering only one vendor for the selection of ringtones called Masttones which is mostly a collection of Arabic tunes and/or remixes of US tunes in the Arabic sound. They do offer some US tunes but I have previewed some and they are polyphonic ringtones, what I really want is MP3. The thing that gets me irritated  is this phone will play MP3s (and quite nicely) and yet Verizon is 'dragging their feet' about getting vendors that will offer MP3s for this phone. I would play the Verizon 'game' and purchase these from GetItNow. Unfortunately, this is poor extremely poor marketing on Verizons part! I still like the phone so far, and so much so that I have signed up four other family members to get the 6256i.

Did you look at the numbers!? Nada. Ive had a few customers with problems come in so at least I haven't been secluded ALL day. I have some work place gripes but I'm not going to whine about those just now. It's not that big of a deal. I prefer working alone, to the alternative, right now anyway. I'm sure they appreciate you being a good guy and not Fing the schedule. :o some kids are outside here playing on their trick bikes, one was pulling his out of the bed of their Chevy pick-up and the tail gate fell off!

Carriers hope 3G grows revenues in 2006
by nextel18    Jan 27, 2006, 1:24 PM
in the Techs & Trends forum

"Will 2006 be the year that high-speed data networks make a significant impact on revenues? Operators are hoping so in light of the fact that analysts are forecasting a slowdown in subscriber growth this year in an increasingly saturated U.S. market. But 2006 will be a tough one as carriers need to improve coverage and continue to come out with compelling devices, say analysts. Verizon, the first out of the gate with 3G, said its VCast service has helped grow average revenue per user on the data side even though it's not a major contributor to the carrier's revenue. ARPU for data increased to $4.85 in the fourth quarter from $2.79 a year ago. However, much of the growth came from text messaging. Confusing, but they must be trying to say that VCast is raising awareness of other services. " source= Dow Jones

With greater processing power on the phone side, then we can limit the amount of bandwidth needed... so... it's all just a matter of time when they converge. The Japan stuff was only 15 frames/sec stuff on iDEN. So it's not like full-frame video just yet. I'd predict VZW might be the first to the gate from a network perspective. They're the ones who sunk the most into their network to get it here. Sprint sucks from a coverage standpoint so I totally discount them. If Cingular's next-gen WCDMA pushes forward then who knows? :D

I really really like this phone. Cool I just set it to blue right out of the gate. I like the size and feel of this badboy. I like the black rubber outer edges and the old school mono front display, don't have to push any buttons to check the time. Like you said feels good against the face and much better in my hands. so far so good, thanks man

Cingular Wireless Reports Strong First-Quarter 2006 Results

Cingular Wireless Reports Strong First-Quarter 2006 Results - Best-ever overall churn of 1.9 percent ATLANTA, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless LLC, which is a joint venture between AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS), today reported strong first-quarter results driven by its best-ever postpaid and overall churn, solid net and gross customer additions, continued progress on merger initiatives, growth of data ARPU, and sales to enterprise customers. For the quarter, the nation's largest wireless provider reported overall monthly subscriber churn of 1.9 percent, its lowest ever. This represents an improvement of 30 basis points over the year-ago first quarter and a sequential improvement of 20 basis points. Postpaid churn improved by 30 basis points both year-over-year and sequentially to 1.6 percent, another record low. Driven by lower churn and solid gross adds, Cingular also reported 1.7 million net customer additions. This compares to 1.4 million net additions in the year-ago first quarter and to 1.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2005. Retail customers accounted for more than 1 million of the net adds for the quarter, including a sequential improvement of more than 41 percent in postpaid customers. Cingular's popular GoPhone® prepaid offers continued to attract more customers to our retail stores. Net adds also reflect Cingular's national distribution agreement with RadioShack. Gross additions were 4.7 million, which was flat versus the year-ago first quarter and compares to 5.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2005. Cingular ended the first quarter of 2006 with 55.8 million cellular/PCS subscribers, an increase of 5.5 million over the year-ago first quarter. Cingular's data ARPU was $5.22, up more than 41 percent over the year-ago first quarter and nearly 11 percent sequentially. The company's Business Markets Group signed more than 800 new and renewed high-end service contracts in the quarter. Normalized OIBDA margins* for the first quarter of 2006 were 31.9 percent, an improvement of 640 basis points compared to normalized year-ago first quarter results and is a sequential improvement of 90 basis points. "Cingular got out of the gate fast in the first quarter of 2006," said Stan Sigman, the company's president and chief executive officer. "We continue to move in the right direction on our major metrics - churn, customer additions, margins, revenue growth, and more. "In particular, our continuing improvement in churn is directly related to the investments and enhancements we are making in our network, day in and day out, in cities and towns all around the country. No other wireless company invests more in its network than Cingular does. Customers experience these improvements for themselves, and as a result, not only buy from Cingular but stay with Cingular. "Our first-quarter results are a tribute once again to the creativity, dedication, and hard work of the men and women of Cingular, who continue to build the most highly regarded wireless company in the world." Cingular's continued strong showing in net and gross customer additions can be attributed to a number of factors, including continuously improving service quality as the company rationalizes and integrates its networks in markets around the country, "fewest dropped calls" and "raising the bar"" marketing campaigns that reinforce service improvements, and a steady stream of innovative products, services, and sponsorships. In addition, the company continued to transition its customer base to GSM and move former AT&T Wireless customers to Cingular plans. During the first quarter of 2006, 97 percent of minutes were carried on Cingular's GSM network and 89 percent of the company's subscriber base was GSM-equipped.

Why do people show up an hour before the mall even opens, when all the lights aren't even on yet, and all the gates for every store are pulled down, and go around banging on all the gates yelling, "YOU OPEN YET!?" Had someone here 45 minutes before open this morning. Yes ma'am I'm actually open. I just put the gate down because I assume people can walk through solid objects, just like I can. I like crack cocaine! Love when people ask "What time y'all open?" and I say, "The mall opens at 10am." Then they reply, "What time does Y'ALL open though?" Then I say, "The same time as the mall." And they reply,"And what time would that be?!".............................
