I know that Verizon now has their own internet service, and V-Cast and Get it Now, and yada yada. But I also noticed that for V-Cast you more or less need Windows Media Player 10, which means you need Windows XP, (which a lot of ppl I know stick to their windows 98 as they HATE windows XP.) but wat I was wondering is, is it just me, or does any one else see a possible HUGE merger?

I mean Microsoft, and Verizon. Imagine if you will if this happened. Cell Phone/Data's biggest/best server (or soon to be after they over take Cingular, which I am not trying to start a flame thread, just being honest from all my understandings and wat I have read, it will only be a matter of time) and Microsoft merging would make one of, if not THE world'...

Wouldn't surprise me at all..about the buying out Cingular thing.

Don't really know, but they way Cingular just bought out ATT...don't see Cingular going into Verizon.

I just don't see why Cingular, running on apparently a global standard that seems to be a bit more cost effective would suddenly want to go CDMA.

Any light on this?? Specially since CDMA is primarily a US thing and apparently costs more, plus the need to be licenced or approved to use it...(i think thats what it is.)

Would it not cost more to buy CSM into CDMA?? Or is Verizon going to switch to GSM to do the buyout?

its all a dream buddy. vzw just wants 100% in their own stock right now. thats what they really need to focus in on buying.

No, you misread my post I did not mean VZW would buyout Cingular when I said "take over" I meant VZW would be the biggest cell phone company, as in have the most customers. Right now Cingular does, but VZW is catching them quickly. I am sorry if that confused you. My post is mainly focused on the fact that Microsoft and VZW have been working hand in hand for quite some time now, and soon VZW will have 100% of their own stocks, and once they own the company in complete, it would not surprise me if Microsoft bought out VZW and became one huge a$$ Cell Phone/CVomputer/Programs/Data companyu that would more or less rule all.

Understand now? This could easily have affects on everyone whether you use VZW or not.

Yes, I 100% beleive it. I see it happening as soon as 2010. Maybe earlier, I mean think about it, they already work together hand in hand in a lot of things, V-Cast, MSN, windows XP, Windows Media 10 etc etc. I think the plans are already in works, they are just waiting for 2 things, VZW to get 100% of its stock, and for VZW to outdo Cingular as the number 1 Wireless Company, both of which are only a matter of time as we all know. Its all business and politics and trying to be number 1. Take two number 1 companies that work hand in hand already, throw in the current things going on with VZW, put two and two togeether, BAM, monopoly. I am 100% serious about this, I for real think it is going to happen. I had an idea of it happening, k...

I wont comment on that, Linux and Microsoft are two different makers, thats ones own bias, like a Blackberry user will probably never switch to a Pocket PC or PDA. I prefer windows over Linux and Mac any day. But to want to use an old version over a new version of something that virtually does the same thing and MORE (shy on a few things) is beyond me. Unless those people are hackers and found Windows 98 works better ....I just don't know.

I understand where you are coming from, but some of the newer versions either have problems or really aren't upgrades:

Win98SE was relatively stable after all the patches.

WinME was probably the worst version I have ever worked with.....and I have worked tech support for a university....

WinNT 4 was very good, just very limited.

Win2K was good, but demanded good hardware.

XP is just an upgrade on 2K, with a emphasis on having faster hardware.

I downgraded from 2K to 98 on a machine simply because it ran MUCH faster that way.

It's all personal prefrence and what you're doing that determines what direction you should go.

Or they like the customization with 98. You can tweak the hell out of your hardware a lot more with 98 than with XP. I don't care that much. I use XP Pro, and I have ever since I found out how to use it for free.

As many have stated not everyone likes windows XP, MANY ppl I know thinks its crap compared to windows 98. But, in order to use V-Cast from your computer you NEED Windows Media Player vs 10, which REQUIRES windows XP, which for those who do not have it, is a $300 upgrade.

Simple math, $15 a month for V-cast, + cost of songs + $40.00 music essentials kit + $300 upgrade= FREEDOM OF MUSIC. ROFLMAO, how is it any type of "free"?

Its Microsoft and VZW working together to rip ppl off. But thats another story altogether...or is it?

Only a matter of time sigh ☚ī¸

There shall be no merger, Microsoft will simply BUY out Verizon once Verizon gets 100% of its own shares so they can sell the entire company to Microsoft. The gears are in motion, the trap is set, all it takes now is time ppl, just time.....

So that they not only own the world's largest/best computer tech, they will also own the world's largest (or soon to be largest especially if they continue their upward trend of customers and buy all 100% of their company)/best cell phone/data business in the US if not world (honestly don't know much of cell phone business out of US)

Together they would just own all tech in the US, and own all means of communications and internet. I mean this doesn's sound too far fetched does it all things considered with how Microsoft had one of the best monopolies for a long a$$ time. Going for round 2 would not surprise me and this time they would have almost twice as much revenue off of it. Pay off the big man, make the money BLING BLING

i have no clue where anyone got the idea vzw would buy cigular or vice versa i just see that in the near future microsoft could buy out vzw especially cosidering vzw is trying to get 100% of its own shares meaning they can sell the company as a whole. time to start buying stock in vzw and microsoft eh? lol

well microsft's stock is getting hit hard (down $3 or so).. i would never own msft...

you cant buy stock in vzw, fyi..

you should buy VOD, not VZ.

verizon couldnt buy cingular becuase it is too big plus there would be bell south(ATT) and verizon and thats just too big.. now with the wireless assets it would even bigger..

wont happen.

Yes I agree with you that VZW would never buyout, nor even try to buyout Cingy, but, do you honestly think Microsoft would not benefit from buying out VZW, especially if VZW gets a hold of its entire stock, and Microsoft buys out the ENTIER company? As you said their stocks are currently dropping, you thinking buying out the fastest growing, and possibly best cell phone network would not increase stocks? Its all about numbers.

Yeah, I meant Microsoft is gonna buy out VZW after VZW takes Cingulars spot as the number 1 Wireless Carrier. Right now Cingy has like 55 mill customers, and Verizon has like 54 something I think, but VZW is gaining on Cingy like 100-200k customers a quarter or something like that.

Buying up smaller companies is the American Way. That being said, I think the trend is that the utilities are buying up the cell phone companies and although I know Microsoft has made some weird ventures in the past, this is way too far away from their overall company vision. Maybe Paul Allen or Bill Gates or Steve Ballmer will buy out VZW (or T-Mobile or Cingular) as part of some master plan of their own, but not Microsoft itself.

No, not really. Microsoft was as much the brainchild of Paul Allen as it was Gates, and now Steve Ballmer has a big stake in it too. Actually, Gates tends not to buy up a lot of companies himself; that's more Paul Allen's thing. In any case, I just don't see Microsoft itself buying Verizon any more than I see Coca-Cola buying Toyota.

No way that'll ever happen.. Microsoft is aware that it is a software company and Verizon Wireless is a Cell phone company. MS may buy a portion of VZW but not enough to matter. MS was teamed up with AT&T Broadband and is still teamed up with Motorolla which is why you see a lot of microsoft and Motorolla logos and stuff in Comcast's equipment. Verizon works closely with microsoft because it makes sense. Microsoft makes software Verizon needs software.. They make a good team and nothing more. There will be no merger acquisition of any other kind of takeover.
