Re: Enterprise package for the blackberry 8900
Blackberry Redirector is a terrible product that they really need to stop telling people about.
It's a desktop package that you install on your PC that watches Outlook 24x7 and then pushes email/contact/calendar changes to your handset as they happen.
The service has tons of problems- but the two biggest are these:
1: You have to have your own Microsoft Exchange Server anyway.
2: You have to leave your PC turned on 24x7 and if the power ever goes out, your data stops syncing and you get nothing.
BlackBerry Desktop Software utilizing desktop redirector
Designed for individual users to install and use on their desktop PC when they do not have access to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server through their company.
Features and Functionality:
Send and receive email from your corporate email address
Sent and deleted emails are reconciled in your mailbox
Synchronization of tasks, calendar, and contacts
End-to-end security through Triple DES Encryption
BlackBerry Desktop Software utilizing desktop redirector requirements:
Outlook 98/2000/XP (Corporate or Workgroup Installation)
Email account on a Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5/2000
Internet/email enabled PC with an Intel486┞¢ processor or higher
Windows® 95/98/2000/XP or Windows NT® 4.0 or higher
One available serial port
If you are unsure whether or not you meet these system requirements, please check with your IT professional.
Note:
To utilize the redirector functionality, your Desktop PC must remain on and connected to the network in order for email redirection to occur.
BlackBerry Desktop Software utilizing desktop redirector does not work with Outlook Express and Outlook functioning independently from any Exchange Server (i.e. configured through a POP3 server).
BlackBerry Desktop Software utilizing desktop redirector does not support individual POP3/ISP email accounts.
If you can make it work for you, more power to you. Most people find the package useless once they know all the strings attached. Good luck!

Re: its because its bundled & cheaper!
Cheaper does not justify what I am trying to convey. Considering that I am a continuous supporter of Sprint, I take this very seriously!
As Of Thursday night, my nephew has moved on and signed an account with his girlfriend on a different carrier because of this issue. He felt bad because he said he would not pay extra for something he didn't want thinking this was holding me back from getting the Pre. This now means I have two lines under my account that are active but no one is using. So by your approach in defending Sprint's policy, It is totally cool for Sprint to force me to have total data packages on the two lines NOT being used and a third line for a phone with no camera(a dumnphone). I think not sir and if you were on my side of the fence, You too, would not enjoy this enforcement. Sprint's family plan may be cheaper, But In reality, I would not be saving money. I would be forced to spend on needless worth. This now becomes a waste of money. Cheap is absolutely great but being forced to have data engaged on a whole family trying to regulate a mandate of control, Cheap becomes unattractive. I don't want my 12 year old niece(who I am intrusted by her mom and ultimately responsible for) having data on her dumbphone let alone her having data at all at her age. Her mom forbids it. I certainly don't want or need it on the two drones. Clearly, you and Sprint must see this as an issue.
On a business note:
Sprint has made great improvements and is starting to return to the path of reconciling with their great status they once had. This, I am proud of. But forcing an entire family into paying extra just because only one person wants a certain smartphone, is not a good way to achieve this goal. Sprint can't afford to screw with the subscribers. It would be in the best interest for Sprint to address this issue. My current family position does not stand alone in this belief. It is mirrored by others as well.
I have submitted this response to many of my colleages of family nature that had visited Sprint stores by my referal with an interest in Sprint as their carrier of choice. They did not like the family offering. They have agreed that Sprint would not fit their needs under this current policy of practice. Sprint needs to allow families to tailor their plans. Simple as that. Every other carrier allows this. Inexpensive familiy plans are not just the only matter in determining a contract signing. Justifing this practice just because it is cheaper, does not warrant an excuse. Offering an inexpensive plan just for the sake of being cheaper, deligates a misinterpretation of what families are looking for. Sprint should not ignore this serious deficiency. If they do, it could very well fall back in their laps. The FCC is already starting investigative measures in fair business practices of all the carriers. This issue could very well become another "Hit List" item very easily. Can Sprint afford this?
