Well you see, there are two statements that Telephia has released. 1. Saying that yes, Cingular did have the lowest dropped call rates over several markets and time periods. 2. Saying that they were unaware exactly how Cingular came to the conclusion that they are the carrier with the fewest dropped calls. Note that they never said Cingular wasn't. Telephia is not suing Cingular. We can put that rumor to rest for now.

Adding ringtones with Bitpim
by fussen_kuh    Jun 13, 2006, 6:57 AM
in the LG VX-8300 forum

I've seen various posts about bitpim not woring with the 8300 and, never having used bitpim or bluetooth, I had no idea what anyone was talking about. So I borrowed by buddy's bluetooth adapter, downloaded bitpim and, after a bit of trial and error (with some help from threads here), my phone is now full of mp3 ring tones. As everyone has already figured out, the 8300 is not officially supported in bitpim. However the filesystem view works just fine (at least it does for me). Here's what I did... NOTE: I don't have bitpim in front of me so names of things might be slightly off 1. Used Audacity to create my tones. I made tones that were about 30s long at 64k 2. Started my bluetooth adapter and pared my phone to it. It assigned COM5 as my bluetooth serial port. 3. Started bitpim, enabled the filesystem view from the view menu, and configured bitpim to talk with the vx8100 on COM5. 4. Expanded the filesystem view and found the "mr" directory. All I remember is that it is burried under a few directories. This directory might have some .mid files already in it. 5. Once you find this directory, place your .mp3 ringtones in it. They will be uploaded to your phone 6. Remove your myringtones.dat (I think that's it's name) file. I believe I found this in the "dloads" directory. 7. Turn your phone off and back on. 8. Your myringtones.dat file will be regenerated and all of your new ring tones should be present :D Hopefully my contribution will help others but I couldn't have done it without the posts from others on this board. So, Thank you to everyone on this board who has posted anything about ringtones.

LOL  I feel you on that one!! We had a customer who bought a bluetooth adaptor, and a Jabra bluetooth headset. And about a week ago came back complaining that it didn't work. So, he wanted to return it. When I told him that he would be getting a check instead of cash, HE FLIPPED!! He started saying something like Cust: "Wa..Wa..Well, when I bu..bu..bought this, YOU wanted cash. Now I wa..wa..want ma cash back!" NOTE: He has a bit of a speech problem... Me: "Well, Store policy says we cannot give cash back on cash purchases. Did you read the back of your receipt? Cust: "LET ME TALK TO YO MANIJAH!!!" Manager: "How can I help you?" Cust: "I bu..bu..bought this here thing, and I doesn't work. I wa..wa..want my cash back!!" Manager: "We DON'T give cash refunds. Store Policy.." Cust Leaves pissed... only to come back the next day, talk to a diff manager and got SOME cash refund, and the rest credit on account....

Re: Is the Q Right For Me??
by markbvt    Jun 16, 2006, 10:53 AM
in the Motorola Q forum

The Q is a lot like a Blackberry in many ways -- good for email and text messaging, decent for web browsing, but as a PDA it's pretty lacking. It's just nowhere near as flexible and full-features as, say, a Treo 700p. I haven't decided yet whether or not to keep my Q or trade it for a Treo. I've got an older Palm Tungsten T3 that can continue to handle PDA chores like calendaring (Q's calendar sucks), note-taking, document editing, etc. The Q does a reasonably good job with email, so I'm not sure I'm willing to spend another $200 just so I can retire the Tungsten and keep all PDA functions, phone, and email on a single device. I'll probably wait and see what's available in two years when I'm eligible for a new phone again.

Re: Water damage issues drive me NUTTS!!

on a side note... My last customer of the day comes in with a Nextel i710. It goes to power on then makes some popping noise and shuts off. Nextel customer care tells her to come to a service center and get it replaced (which I am a service center for Nextel Partners). I take one look at the charging port and it is mostly green. I show this to the customer. The customer insists she hasn't had the phone near liquid...much less enough to show damage. I then take the phone apart. On the circuit board there are two water damage indicators. One near the bottom is bright red. Customer again insists that she hasn't had the phone near any kind of liquid. I then show her the white powder on the solder points. She still insists. I then show her THE RUST ON MOST THE METAL!!! High humidity wouldn't cause all that! I love the one person's post. You wouldn't take an ipod out in the rain. Why would you with your cell phone?
