Also, with verizon, if you spend $79.99+ per month for minutes, you qualify to get an upgrade price every year. (the one year upgrade is the normal "new customer" price; this makes them very competitive with Tmobile, which only offers 1 year contracts. With tmobile one "gotcha" is that if you don't have a high enough rate plan, they don't offer you the new customer price. At least, they didn't to me a year ago...)
Note that the two-year upgrade (extra $100 off) and one-year upgrade (new customer price) only apply to the primary line on the account, however, if they are doing a "buy one, get one free" or "buy one, get four free" then you would qualify for those offers....

Guidelines for Cingular customers wanting to switch carriers and port their number
This resolution will provide the guidelines for customers who wish to switch to Cingular from another carrier and port their number.

C ingular customers are able to port their number if they meet the following requirements:
Customer information on the port request sent to Cingular from the other carrier must match the information in our billing system.
Cingular verifies against 4 fields on the wireless port request prior to confirming port out requests: mobile number, password (if one is required), SSN/Tax ID and billing account number (required field).
Note: Customers that are under contract and/or suspended in billing will still be allowed to port out from Cingular.
