bluetooth profiles

Does anyone know when verizon will allow a phone manufacturer to include A2DP bluetooth profiles. I have just purchased a pair of moto ht820 bluetooth headphones ( and very excited ). To my disapointment I have since found that to my knowledge there are no phones that support the stereo sound profile 👿 At least they work with the PC. I did see that samsung is releasing the sgh e760, but it will be a GSM phone. Any ideas or knowledge would be much appreciated. thanx.

"Data-capable"

PhoneScoop has a useful definition of "Data-capable".

This means that the phone can be used like a modem to connect a separate computer to the Internet or other system.

Is it actually possible to use a cell phone for regular ISP service?
One reason I've avoided cell phones so long is that I figured I needed to keep my land line for Internet service.

Let me guess - if you do use a cell phone to provide some sort of Internet service, you've got to install special (probably Windows-only) software onto the device you want to give Internet access to.

There's probably no way to hook up a plain old router to the phone's Internet service and then be able to...

"CBS: Mobile "Attractive" But Not TV Threat

John Consoli

DECEMBER 05, 2005 -

With 5 million subscribers, the portable video content market is "very attractive, but it is just not likely to be a threat to traditional television distribution," Dave Poltrack, CBS executive vp of research and planning told a UBS Conference audience.

Poltrack was basing his conclusion on a survey CBS conducted last month, which included questions about portable television program viewing on MP3 players and cell phones.

A total of 3,781 people were sampled, and 42 percent of that sample owned an MP3 player.

"We asked these panelists how likely they would be to purcha...

PTT Question

Ok. Now that Cingular launched their PTT service I am seriously considering getting a PTT phone. My question is are any of the PTT networks interconnectable? Like can I talk to Nextel or Verizon PTT phones with Cingular, and vice versa?

Wireless Providers Making Modest Progress in Improving Customer Service

http://www.cellular-news.com/story/15074.php »

"Wireless service providers are having some success in reducing customer service churn and complaint rates, but they still have significant challenges ahead, reports In-Stat. About one in eight wireless customers considered their wireless carrier's customer service "excellent," although the results for individual U.S. carriers ranged from a low of 7% to a high near 21%. The research firm found several customer service topics that received praise and complaint for each wireless carrier regarding hold times, service policies, first-call problem resolution, and customer service representative attitude.

These findings are the result of an In-Stat survey of U.S. wireless subscribers and of extens...

More on Verizon and EV-DO roll out in other cities

What I would like to see is a list of pending cities that Verizon will be rolling EV-DO to.

I could care less as a subscriber or employee what cities currently have the service. When you talk to a rep, they beat around the bush and say things like; "I have heard 1st quarter 2006 for this city, but I really am not permitted to say when exactly."

Carriers need to pull out the stops, quit obfuscating and state the facts. 👿

Western Wireless Motorola V810 OTSL

I had spent the better part of a week looking for the OTSL (One Time Subsidy Lock) for my Motorola V810 (originally setup for use with Western Wireless Cellular One). I couldn't find it anywhere online and Western Wireless customer service wouldn't help me since I wasn't a customer. I finally got a customer service rep to transfer me to tech support. The tech support lady gave me the number 567990 (which didn't work but may be another lock number, possible MSL, someone will need for this model at some point) and then she said to try 111111. That worked! I just thought I'd share it with everyone since it took me so long to find it.

Verizon's EV-DO roll out is SLOW as molasses

What is with Verizon's extremely slow roll out of EV-DO to the Intermountain area? Salt Lake City, Utah isn't slated till sometime next year. Denver has it.

Phone Emulators for WAP Dev

Hey I was wondering if anyone out there has experience with WAP development or any mobile application programming. The company I work for is launching a WAP product and we'd like potential users to be able to demo it via a WAP emulator at our website. I found a company called YoSpace and they seem to offer some interesting solutions. Anyone have any experience with them or other venders?

Another thing I've been trying to do is work on the documentation. Right now I've just been taking digital pictures of my cellphone to get screen shots. I know I can get a WAP browser plugin for the actual application but we'd like to document how to launch the web browser etc. Anyone have any thoughts on a better way to do this? Thanks for your...

Can I use my cell phone as modem of fax machine?

My carrier, Verizon, tells me I absolutely CAN, simply by using the USB cable connector (Nokia 6015i), but when I talk to Brother (the fax machine I'm looking at purchasing is a Brother) they say their machine will not work with a cell phone because it requires an analog signal. Verizon says as long as fax machine has a USB port (which it does) it should be able to talk to the phone fine. Before I blow $200 on the fax machine (model 2820), does anyone know for sure if it will work??
I just want to be able to dial long distance fax numbers through my cell, since my cell gets free LD.
Thank you for any help!!

MiniSD and Transflash

Does anyone know if we will be able to store contacts and calender information on expandable media cards anytime soon?

It would be nice if CDMA could use them like the SIM cards in the future.

Can WiMAX Live up to the Hype?

http://www.cellular-news.com/story/14898.php »

"By 2010, less than 5% of broadband subscribers will use WiMAX as a fixed wireless broadband access technology, iSuppli projects."

There is a nice diagram about the figures of total broadband subscribers and Wimax subscribers. (from 2003-2010)

Motorola V710 - 512 MB compatible?

Hi,

I just got my phone and was wondering if the V710 supports the 512 MB Transflash memory card. I have read reviews about people having used 256 MB but haven't seen one yet for 512 MB. Please let me know if it supports 512 MB as well before I make a purchase.

Thanks.

Open Source Phones!!!

I just want to commend Palmsouce on the things I have been reading recently in regards to bringing Linux to mobile phones. As a huge fan of open source, this is a huge accomplishment. I do wonder what linux's creator must be thinking about all of this, though. He supposedly lives in Portland, so maybe I should find him and ask... Anyway, I would like to hear from other open source fans as to what kind of fun that could be had with the onset of advancing technology. GO OPEN SOURCE!!!
