One difficulty in adapting mobile phones to new uses is form factor. For example, ebooks may well become a distinct device, because of conflicting form-factor requirements — ebooks require large screens, while phones need to be smaller. However, this may be solved using folding e-paper or built-in projectors.

but Motorola’s going to have to be selective in how they market it. It’s small and has a unique shape, and the finish is very elegant, but that’s about all that distinguishes it from the other do-it-all phones.
Unfortunately sleek is associated with “thin” in people’s brains, so my guess is it won’t surpass the RAZR's popularity:

Given a choice of five responses, 36 percent of the users said they would switch as soon as possible to another device for mobile e-mail, according to Bill Hughes, an analyst for In-Stat, in Scottsdale, Arizona. However, 13 percent said they would expect such a shutdown to be resolved soon and would wait a while to drop the Research in Motion (RIM) device. Only 7 percent said they would stick with the BlackBerry for as long as it took RIM to resolve the issue, Hughes said. The remainder were undecided.
