GPS capabilities on older phones

I have a Motorola StarTac which I want to activate with Verizon. It is one of the best phones I have ever owned. It has been on the Verizon network before, but when I asked about activation I was told that it could not be done because it was not capable of giving a GPS signal. Is this true? If so, what can I do to get it in compliance? Is there a chip I can buy? Can the company do anything? What are my options? I really don't want to get rid of this phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Voice Activated Dialing

My organization is in the process of moving from VZW cell phones to their TREO 650.

The folks I spoke to at VZW aren't sure if Voice Activated Dialing is a feature that's going to become available on the 650 (since they don't have it now) -- which strikes me as strange considering our Sprint TREOs have it.

Anything we can do, short of pitching the TREOs out the window and moving to Sprint?

Any information on plans to do Voice Act. Dialing as an upgrade feature?

Who needs OnStar?

I was watching another one of those heartwarming Onstar commercials and it occurred to me: who needs it? This is essentially a technology that places a cellular telephone call upon the occurrence of certain events (pushing the button, having your air bag deploy). It requires GM to maintain a call center, probably a pretty big one, to respond to calls twenty-four hours a day.

Couldn't a car manufacturer add a very small device to their air bag assemblies that would send a signal to the driver's cell phone telling the phone to dial 911 when the air bag deploys? The call goes into the local emergency response network, the car company doesn't have to maintain the call center, the customer doesn't have to pay a subscription fee for a service t...

Blackberry Phone carrier was AT&T

The phone was shut off by AT&T and Cingcular tells me they do not have the codes to activate the phone. AT&T tells me they don't have the codes. I want to set the Blackberry up with T-Mobile. Blackberry tells me they do not have the codes either. Great Customer Service. I need the lock codes! Any Suggestions?

Video Converter

i have downloaded the xilisoft video converter 2.1.54 build-918 version and it works just fine but it will only convert the first five minutes of a movie/episode. It requires a registration code for the full duration of the video. Does anyone have a code for this version of xilisoft? Or is there another program just as user friendly as xilisoft that will convert entire episodes (family guy 🙂 into 3pg files to put into my flix? It does not have to be xilisoft but will enable you to take audio from a movie and convert it into an mp3. (i was able to do both with xilisoft; video to 3pg format and audio from movie to mp3 format) Is there a better program that will do all of this? thanks

GPS on modern phones

I notice phonescoop lists some phones as having gps, and some not, but it's my understanding that in order for a phone to comply with the e911 standard which all phones do aren't they required to have gps built in. Where i'm leading with this is it follows that most phones then are already gps recievers and just need to provide some way to broadcast that data. so somehow shouldn't i be able to use any modern phone as a gps?

Phone E-Mail addresses

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the email addresses for all phones? I am working on a new website where people can send pictures directly from their phone. I need the email addresses for all the carriers to complete the code.

For example, I know verizon phones have this format for email addresses:
2125555555@vzwpix.com

What is the email address for cingular, sprint, nextel, and others?

AMOI Mobile...whats up with them?ÂÂŋ

So I've been looking into Amoi alot. What can anyone tell me about them? They have some handsets shown on their website that are amazing, but with no purchase info or release dates, very vague. I can find a few of less expensive older models new on eBay, but quality/support/backing???

Their designs are amazing and so are the prices.

Repair Courses

A friend of mine had a cell phone store at the mall that went under ☚ī¸

He has a bunch of accessories and all that stuff. I am trying to talk him into going cricket out of the front of my shop and I will run it for him...

Along with this I would like to do a little bit of repairs but cant seem to find a good startin point. The only site I have really found is
http://www.training-classes.com/course_hierarchy/cou ... »

I don't know I guess I was just expecting it to be a lot more in depth.

Anyone know of any others??

Thanks in advance

T720 vs V710 - which is better?

I currently own a T720 and I am looking at upgrading to the V710. Will it be worth it? The camera aspect of the phone is not a selling point. The 2 features I look for are connectivity and Get It Now.

ultimate phone skin solution

I just heard about this provider of custom skins for any portable electronic device including phones. I have not ordered one but the skin options are unlimited. I am thinking of ordering one for my nephew to have a picture of his son in utero while he is in Iraq.

The skin material sounds as if it woould also protect the phone a bit (certainly from scratches). I only checked out teh price for moto phones and they are listed at $9.95 (+$5 if custom).

Does anyone have direct experience with this firm or the vinyl material used?

help -- Suggestions for simple phone that syncs

I need a phone that syncs with a PC to manage my calander and my contacts. I don't need a huge screen, or internet browsing or e-mail capacity or a camera or an MP3 player and I don't want to spend $500. It seems to me that the options are either to buy a simple phone with toy applications or to buy a huge data manager that works as a phone.

I have read a bit about PhoneTools, and that looks like it will help -- but I am finding it nearly impossible to identify which phones can use PhoneTools and which carriers have those phones.

Can anyone offer me help? I am not very tech-savvy, so be gentle, please.

Question on GSM signal w/o 850...

I was looking in to buying the Moto E398 but can't seem to find a US version of the phone with GSM 850 instead of 900. Can anyone tell me how good the coverage is on the Cingular network, or GSM at all for that matter without the 850 frequency??? Is it worth buying a phone without 850 for use in the US??? Thanks!
