What's inside?

The best way to judge the performance is to see what chips are inside. Anybody have any ideas how to get information on chips found inside the phones?

New Samsung i830

Looks like what we world travelers have been looking for, assuming we want to use VZW here at home.

Two questions:

First, can someone speculate as to whether I my data (e.g. my Goodlink) would work on a GSM network while roaming? If not, I may have to break down and go to Cingular.

Second, the press release here on phonescoop said something about the phone shipping with Windows Mobile 2003. Why not WinMob 5.0 like the Treo 700---or will it?

Phone Recommendations

I am a Cingular customer using a 2 year old LG. I am tired of using my Palm Tungsten E for phone contacts that I have failed to input to my phone. Here are my requirements in order of priority:

#1 Want bullet-proof phone (signal strength and call quality!)

#2 Want to be able to import my Palm Tungsten E contact data. (use Apple Powerbook)

#3 Quad Band nice as I travel to Europe and Asia.

#4 Camera

Bluetooth - don't care about.
MP3's - don't care about

#1 and #2 are by FAR the most important points to me. I don't have a problem changing carriers. I'm scheduled to receive a free Treo 650 through United Airlines and while this may be able to hit on #2 and #4, not sure about #3 and from what I'm hearing, it is a LOUSY pho...

voice dialing

I didn't realize this technology was available until a few days ago. A friend showed me his Verizon phone, a LGVX something and how it can call a number if you speak the number to the phone, you don't have to punch it in. That is a very important feature for me. (I'm not talking about the common feature where you pre-program the phone to respond to a voice command such as "Call Mom" or "Office" or your friend's name or your other voice mail or whatever. I'm talking about a feature where you can call in for your messages and write down a number that you've never dialed before and haven't programmed into your phone's phone book, and just say the number into the phone instead of punching the keys.

That's an important safety feature for me...

About 9.4% of US Wireless Subscribers Already Use a Wireless Phone as Their Primary Phone

http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/inde ... »

"
Today, over half of US consumers are willing to consider completely replacing their wireline phone lines with wireless service. The best predictors of wireless substitution are age and the amount the consumer is currently spending on wireless. This report reveals the demographics and spending behaviors of those most likely to replace wireline service, as well as reasons they would choose not to."

very interesting.. carriers just need to work on in-building subscribers and it will be great for them.

Thinking about getting one. As a realtor, it would be invaluable for me to be able to view listings while in the field. However, at the VZW store, I couldn't get it to log into my listing service, www.rmlsweb.com. Does anyone know whether this is a Pocket PC issue, or a website issue for the people at www.rmlsweb.com to address?
Thanks!

Does anyone know what is up with Cingular and At&t phones?

I am a used cell phone retailer and i usually just deal in T-mobile phones that are unlocked. I have a T-mobile and a Cingular sim card. I recently bought a few T720 and T722 to try to sell, they were At&t phones. I was told those and the other phones i bought were unlocked. Now all the phones that were T-mobile worked fine for both sim cards and so did the Cingular ones. But when i got to testing the At&t T720's and T722's they would not take my T-mobile card or Cingular card it kept saying there was a code that i needed. Since they were suppose to be unlocked there shouldn't be any codes still in there should there be? Or is it just that these old AT&T phones don't take Cingular and T-mobile cards? If so is there any tip any one has as to...

tmobile edge?

this has already been discussed but does anyone know if tmobile has or has plans to offer higher speed (EDGE) web access on their phones? i just signed on with them and got the razr v3. i read that there were plans for milwaukee(where i live) to be one of the test markets so just curious. also if this is true, would the v3 be capable of taking advantage of the higher speed?

How to transplant ESN from one StarTac to another?

I have a StarTac 7868 on Verizon's network right now. It's cracked and starting to malfunction, so I bought a refurb unit (same model). Of course, Verizon refuses to activate it because of the FCC forcing this E-911 BS down our throats.

So I'd like to transplant the ESN from the old phone to the new. Anyone know where it's stored in the phone? I'd like to use as much of the new phone as possible, so a removable chip would be ideal. But I've looked at pictures of the innards, and it's not obvious.

Any insight would be appreciated.
