Updating Carrier information

Rich-

Can some of the carrier information be updated in phonescoop? I know of one that is pretty old about that carrier's technology. Or is it something that is submitted by the carrier?

Just curious.

Avatars

Do you think it would be possible to add an Avatar the size of a standard icon?

RICH-Forum Removal

When will the ATTWS/Cingualr forum be removed? Or will it just revert back to ATTWS when they relaunch the prepaid service?

Friendly Suggestion

Rich:

I have noticed recently that the site is getting way more popular and there are now several different user names poping up, which is a great thing for the website, but I have noticed a problem with this as well. Now many of the forums, especially the carrier forums are clogged with one line posts of people just chating to one another. I was wanting to know if it is possible to set up a chat room on the site for such conversation. That way some the posts would not clog the forums and people can discuss issues about phones again and not how their day is going. I know many, not all, are reps bored at their jobs and making posts and I can sympithize with this but I was thinking there could be a better format to handle this. I hope ...

CDMA? Anywhere??

I used to love this site!--visit it every day! But lately, the coverage on CDMA phones has been minimal if not "non-existant". ...Not saying it's your fault. (Because maybe they just haven't been making any CDMA phones...) but somehow I can't really believe that.

Site / Server Changes

Hey folks - good news! 🙂

I've made a few changes recently on the server side of things, to speed up to the site and prepare for continued traffic growth.

If you notice any problems with the site, particularly with any of the areas mentioned below, please let me know immediately. Thanks! 🙂

So the improvements are:
  • Added a load balancer and 2nd web server. This is a huge step for us. One potential glitch to look for is lost sessions. If you are logged in, but then suddenly you find yourself logged out unexpectedly, that's a lost session, and that's problem. Please let me know if this happens to you. The load balancer should make sure that doesn't happen, but it's new so I don't quite trust it yet. 😉
  • RSS feed

Session Timeout issues?

There seem to be times that my session will time out after just a few seconds of logging in! I'm not sure if I'm just imagining it or if it really is a problem, just thought you might like to check it out. Any body else having this problem?

Any info on this phone? Looks like it's in testing with US Cellular and I can't seem to find any information on it. Thanks Rich!

Time stamps.

Hi Rich, I've noticed just a few moments ago when I posted in the S710 forum that the time stamps on my posts are an hour ahead of my time. I was wondering if this is how it is supposed to be now or not, because before it would always say the actual time I posted.

Sprint/Nextel Merger

Hey, I have been doing some research on this rumor I heard about Sprint and Verizon merger. My friend heard it on the radio but i told her that Sprint and Nextel merged. Can anyone clear this up for me. Is Verizon going to buy Sprint or are they going to merged with Sprint before things are final with Nextel?

I read this article on Sprint and Nextel but it was awhile ago.

Unfair Fees

My wife and I were thinking about switching carriers when our contract with U.S. Cellular expired. My wife called them and asked when the contract ended. After that, we contacted Cingular, and were going to get the new service started, before our current contract with USC expired. We had not idea that porting out our number would also terminate our contract with USC. A few weeks later, we got a bill from USC for $300, for early termination. We were never told that we would be charged $300 for porting out our number. USC charged us, when there was less than a month left on the contract. The claimed that they're records indicate that Tessa was told this, but that is an all lie, had we known that they would charge us $300, we would have ...

Data Cable Question

I am purchasing a data cable for my LG VX5550 phone. I purchased one without software. My computer will pick it up as new hardware, right? I am thinkin it will work as if it was one of those little "jump drive" sticks. Am I right? Can someone please clarify this. The link to the one I purchased is: http://www.88-gifts.com/lglx5450/lg-lx5450-12 00-lx5550-usb-data-cable.htm

Thanks

Time errors

Thank you to the two folks who alerted me to the inaccurate time issue that cropped up in the forums. It was triggered by the recent outages, but it was ultimately a flaw in the server setup that was easily fixed.

It's been corrected now, so any future server issues should not cause the times to get screwy again. (Now to fix the server downtime issue...)

rf reception ratings

for those of us who travel to fringe areas it would be worthwhile to include a rating for RF strength for each phone listed. It is a shame that there does not seem to be a way to quantify RF reception capabilities for a particular phone.

"no nodes available" error

loyal phone scoop fans, we're sorry for all the problems in the past 24 hours. our servers seem to have contracted some sort of malady, origins unknown, but we have the tech team working on it now. it's been a worse 24 hours for Rich, since he's supposed to be on vacation right now, and that wasn't going so smoothly to begin with. the good news is we have the weekend to get everything ship shape so that we can start delivering you all the news from 3GSM in Cannes on monday. wish us luck.

thanks for all your patience and support.
