*86ppxxxx# When voicemail is connectted, I press the toggle down, this causes the password and pound tones to activate. I haven't played with it but a w may automatically cause the password and # to activate.

Do you not have Outlook or Outlook Express on your PC? That would be the easiest. Set up Activesync to sync to one of those. In my case, I loaded my contacts from Outlook to the 6700 via Activesync. There are also numerous backup utilities, perhaps some freeware. Check Handango for a backup utility to purchase if you don't want to use Outlook.

Re: Speakers on the phone?
Feb 25, 2006, 12:48 PM

The speaker phone on the 6700 is the weakest component IMHO. It sucks, pure and simple. So if the speaker phone is of high priority to you, don't get this phone, you will hate it.

I would recommend downloading PHM Regedit, google it, it is freeware. Install it as you would any other program. Run it. Then you will see the various directories under My Device, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, etc. .. all 4 registry directories start with HKEY. Follow the paths as described in the reg edit threads/posts. PHM regedit splits the screen, the top half is the directories, the bottom half is where the values appear that you will ...

Feb 24, 2006, 10:40 AM

I have an 815 and a 6700. I agree, Moto software blows. But I have this phone for it's performance as a phone (signal strength, clarity) and for that it is as good as I've had. The Moto Phone Tool Kit works very nice in synchronizing my contacts from my Outllook data base. I've had the phone for a couple of months now and it isn't going anywhere for awhile.

I stopped by today to have my 815 flashed. I asked if I could see the list of fixes and the tech told me they didn't send one. I hadn't hacked anything on mine so I can't say if it affects hacks or not. I haven't had the chance to use it much so I can't tell any difference yet. But now I can and will start hacking (as soon as I can download ptc ...

I would guess yes to screwing up your hack, no to them knowing you hacked. I say yes to screwing up your hack as I would guess when they flash the phone they'd completely write over the top of anything already there. I sure would if I were them as who knows what hacks have been done and how they might affect the new firmware. Why would that be a big deal, just edit the registry ...

Re: 6700 VZW VoiceMail Speed Dial
Feb 20, 2006, 8:45 AM
in the UTStarcom PPC-6700 / XV-6700 / HTC Apache forum

Okay, say your voice mail number is 555-555-5555 and your password is #1234#, the way to enter this is 5555555555p#1234#. When the voice mail connects, you press down on your toggle button and the #1234# is initiated. If the p doesn't work, try a w instead. I use a p in mine and it works. As far as not recognizing the #, not sure, works on mine.

If you download and modify them (or download the right ones), the ringer tones are quite adequate. The speaker on the phone is simply rancid. This is far and away the weakest part of the phone. I bought an iPod so I really don't care. Call quality is good with VZW. Text is incredibly easy with the slide out keyboard. Take the time to read this forum, you'll get all the information you should need.

I'm no expert but it seems like you either have a program running on the SD Card that is screwing things up or something is wrong with the card itself. I'd reformat the SD card and start over again loading one program at a time for trial and elimination.

To get rid of the message, see the thread on this page about necessary registry hacks. Works. I believe hard pauses are either a comma or P's. Inserting a W behind *86 and before your password allows you to use your depress your joystick, once the voice mail has been connectted, to start the password sequence. I know of no freeware voice command software.

.wav files work, I've done it. I didn't think mp3 files work for alarms. To make the alarms louder, you can use an audio program such as wave pad to increase the amplitude. You can also use wave pad to clip mp3 files and convert them to .wav format.

Feb 13, 2006, 9:52 AM

First, it is not true that all applications should run off of internal memory. I think applications where you require a prompt response should run off of internal memory. Others, such as Adobe Reader, would likely serve you best running off of the SD Card. If you really load up the phone, you will not have sufficient internal memory to run all the applications there. MS Voice Command works very well. I personally use the Jabra BT500 ...

1. 650 was absolutely horrible. Haven't tried the 700. My 6700 is quite good. 2. I personally prefer the WM5 OS. Not a Palm fan at all. 3. Again, I think you'll prefer the WM5.

1. I use the "pay as you go plan" for data as I don't have to access email that often. Works out pretty well. 2. Check the suggested reg edits thread, there is one there that will help with this (although I don't find it all that slow). 3. I put a 512 Mbyte in mind which is plenty "for now". I believe the biggest made right now is 2 Gbyte. Surely bigger to come. 4. ...

I think the answer depends upon your personal needs. ewallet is an incredibly value app for me. Stores credit card, internet passwords, financial records, etc. in an encrypted password protected environment. Adobe Reader is another good one. If you load many apps, SK Tools helps keep your device running smoothly with its maintenance tools. Magic Button is a freeware app that actually turns the apps off when you hit the x to close the program. ...

Did some searching, found the technique for accomplishing this on another site. Cut and paste below: While the PDA screen is still on (at the Today Screen) Then press the button on your headset, it will turn on the connection. Now Click anywhere on your PDA to make sure the "clicks" are heard on your headset. Now go to your playlist, media player, whatever ... start your file playing, you'll hear it through the BT HS. BT Multi-function button not activating voice command explained.
Feb 7, 2006, 5:13 PM
in the UTStarcom PPC-6700 / XV-6700 / HTC Apache forum

I read the explanation at a MS blog. I don't know the policy here on posting URL's to other sites so I'll just give the Reader's Digest Version. The Voice Command developers, when starting this project, were unsure of the future of BT. They designed the software to work with 16 khz input (the sample rate at which the discrete device in the phone "listens" to the voice command). The higher the rate, the better. Existing ...

Playing MP3 through Bluetooth Headset????
Feb 7, 2006, 5:05 PM

I was out today and picked up the Gennum nXZEN BT Headset to try. I was reading the limited information on the package and it mentioned playing MP3 files in stereo and included an extra ear bud. Since there was a 21 day return policy, and I've read this is an excellent BT HS, I decided to pick it up. Turns out, to play the MP3 files, you have plug in the audio interface cable they provide, one ...

Easy, hit the power button to put the device in sleep mode. I guess I don't get it otherwise. The device goes into sleep mode relatively quick anyway. But if you're concerned about inadvertently activating a program when putting it into your pocket, while still on, just hit the power button and put it into sleep mode. For me at least, when it is "on", I want all buttons active.

Feb 6, 2006, 6:47 PM

I'm usually not into doing much with my cell phones except using them. However, the XV-6700 has so many kewl features, I've played a lot more than usual. I purchased a theme pack and loaded a number on the phone. Was thinking it would be really nice if you could somehow select some number of themes to rotate after a set period of time. I may be in error, but I don't believe the shortcoming is in the voice recognition software but is in the firmware of the phone itself.

I use the earpiece that looks like a cone and protrudes into the ear. That is one the things I like a lot about this particular head set. Surrounding noise is not an issue. I am slightly hard of hearing and the headsets that just kind of "cover your ear" don't work for me at all.

The MS Voice Commmand software works with a bluetooth headset very well. Unfortunately, the multifuction button on the bluetooth headset does not activate voice command, so you have to push a button on the phone, speak the command into the phone and once connectted, the bluetooth headset works. Yeah, I know, real cheesey and really stupid that they would overlook this. Yep, speakerphone is about as next to useless as it gets. For whatever reason, I could not get ...

They're two totally different phones. If your primary need is for a cell phone, the E815 is far superior. If you have substantial email and internet browsing needs, I would think the 9800 is the way to go. I had a 9800 demo for a couple of weeks. It was okay but I wasn't that impressed. I now have the E815 and the xv-6700. The E815 is a fantastic cell phone, best I've had. ...

The battery life isn't great but better than what you're experiencing. Do you have the wifi on or off? If on, that will drain battery. Go to Start ... Settings ... System ... Memory and then Running Programs. See what you have running that may cause the battery to drain. Try shutting everything down for a day except what you absolutely need. At the top of the screen, use your stylus to click on Ev ...
