BT headset w/large LCD?
I'm looking for a BT headset to use in the car. What I'm imagining is keeping the unit near the shifter and being able to see the LCD screen easily after picking it up. Then it'd be easy to pop on my ear or around my head or neck, whatever.
I've had a tough time with the on-ear units, so that's not my first choice, although if one is easy on/off and comfortable, I could do that.
Anyone seen ...
Re: 3G phone with MediaNet?
Thanks, I really don't use much bandwidth ...
Re: 3G phone with MediaNet?
Thanks for the reply.
Right now I have a $19.99 MediaNet plan. Phone is 3125. New phone will be the Touch Cruise. I do web surfing, email, ...
What does one gain with the $40 ($50?) data plan?
3G phone with MediaNet?
Currently I have a MediaNet plan with my 3125. I'm looking at buying a 3G phone. If I buy an unlocked phone and just plug in my SIM, will I have 3G?
I know that officially a full data plan is the "correct" plan, but i was wondering ...
Re: N95 not for U.S. HSDPA?
* AT&T has HSDPA up and running now. *
Not yet north of the GG Bridge ... :-(
When at ATT?
I'm hoping that ATT will pick this up. Mobile Planet is saying unlocked version will be available from them in early December. If so, when might we see it at ATT? What's the usual time line?
Call quality? RF reception?
Is it unseely to ask how it performs as a phone. :D RF? Sound?
TIA
N95 not for U.S. HSDPA?
Only 2100? So it won't work on ATT's coming HSDPA network?
Re: Downside to unlocked HSDPA phone w/ATT?
I like WM for syncing purposes. Does the Nok sync well to Outlook?
Yes, the Touch Cruise has all the specs, but I worry about proprietary stuff. XM? I'll take a look ...
I'd not looked at the Nokia because I also need a pocketable phone. I'll check it out now. Thanks.
Downside to unlocked HSDPA phone w/ATT?
If I don't want to wait for one of the new HSDPA phones to be offered by ATT, is there a downside to buying an unlocked one? Aside from cost, of course.
The reason I ask is that I have an unlocked phone now (QTEK 8500 flashed to the i-mate s/w) and some functions aren't available to me, at least as far as I can figure out. Sending pictures is the one that stands out. Seems the ...
But ...
... at http://www.mobileplanet.com/d.aspx?i=157448 they say tri-band HSDPA:
• GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA Function - Internal antenna
- Dual mode HSDPA/UMTS
-850/1900/2100 MHz for USA
-2100MHz for Europe
-800/1700/2100MHz for Japan
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE (quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
Think I got it, but ...
850/1900. But will ATT be using 2100?
HSDPA bands? 2100 enuf? Need all 3?
What HSDPA bands will I need? Is 2100 enough? Or do I need 850/1900? I'm in NorCal.
TIA
Got mine ...
... and I'm quite happy with it, at least until the next new phone catches my eye. :D
I bought from smart-mobile-gadgets.com and was impressed: good price, personal contact.
The 8500 was buggy at first. A couple of the weird things may have been just me. For example, at first I couldn't get it to find a signal at all. Thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t= 960760
Then it wouldn't disconnect from VM (I assume because the other end didn't hang up). ...
Cingular band on unlocked phone - true coverage?
Sory for the confusing title.
I'm a T-M customer and frustrated with weak signals. I bought an umlocked phone and it virtually always shows "Cingular" instead of "T-M" of the screen. Two related questions ...
1. Does this mean that I'm really using the Cingular network/towers?
2. If I force the phone to use Cingular, am I getting the exact coverage I could expect should I switch?
Another question ...
What is the stste of the two GSM carriers in ...
OK, why?
OK, then, you two. Why do *you* say that Cingular sucks?
Tri-band ...
Since it's a European GSM phone, isn't it likely to be 800/1800/1900? Still makes it OK fro T-M ... :-)

VZN north of SF?
I'm in Sonoma County (Santa Rosa) and thinking of dumping T-M for VZN. Opinions of the service in this area? Feel free to compare to T-M, Cingular, Sprint (I've had 'em all  ).
I have the SDA, and now can't see doing without a small Smartphone. The new Panteck clam Smartphone will be enough to make me switch, assuming the coverage/service is good. People I know here love VZN -- but others said the ...
When?
I am thinking about moving to vzn. Is there a rule of thumb as to the length of time between FCC OK and availability?
This phone looks like what I want - a smartphone in a small package.
Thanks.
Don't delete emails ...
If you delete emails from the SDA -- and then run another Send/Receive -- the deleted emails will be removed from the ISP's server.
Seems that's just the way it works. There is no option to Save Copy On Server.
Note that it is not the deletion on the SDA that deletes it from the server (how could the server know?). It's the subsequent Send/Receive.
Note also that this has nothing to do with whether or not you sync up ...
Here ...
Settings >> Accessories >> Clear Storage.
Got it ...
You've got to create the lists in WM Player and check the box that tells it to sync particular playlists.
How to create playlist?
OK, so I'm a dork. I have about 100 songs on the mini-SD card, but I can't get the WinMedia player to do anything but play them in order.
How do you make a playlist? I assume this can be done from within the SDA ...
I do see a "Queue Up" menu item, but I can't get anything to queue up.
Like I said ...
Re: Contacts transfer???
On the first question ... I went to a SIM contact, hit Enter (joystick down), then Menu >> 2. Save to Contacts.
Re: Internet problem fixed
That's what I was told, too ... :(
Re: t-mobile service?
My understanding is that they use the same infrastructure. T-M used to lease spectrum from Cingular and now T-M is buying the grid and Cingular will lease back.
[If that's not right, let me know, since I should stop telling people this. :D ]
So, I think the short answer is that they should be the same. CS might be a different story, of course. I've been very happy with T-M's CS.
Internet problem fixed
My internet was up and running, then suddenly failed. I was told this is an issue with the SDA. Here's the fix ...
Start >> Settings >> Connections >> GPRS >> Edit >> Access point
Here, try internet2.voicestream.com instead of wap.voicestream.com.

Re: T-mobile button
Couldn't you just go in and edit the URL?
Re: Do you need some special service to receive / send emails on T-Mobile
You can create, read, reply.
I now have it auto-configured through the MyEmail system T-M has. At first I didn't get the proxy theory and just manually configured it for my POP3 account. That worked OK, except that I got a (meaningless) error message at the end of each download
SIM only! D'oh!
the sequence I described was only to Speed Dial SIM contacts. All is OK now that they are in the phone itself.
Thanks.
Thanks.
That helps a lot.
Thanks. That in the manual?
This helps a lot.
I've got some gripes ...
I still like the phone, but after some use there are things that annoy me.
1. First, I often pull the phone out of my pocket to find the browser and/or the media player open. The buttons obviously get easily pushed and I can't figure out how to lock the keypad.
2. Unless I'm missing something, the Speed Dial ain't speedy. With the Moto, I'd just hold down, say, number 2 to dial that person. On ...
How to lock keypad?
This thing has the worst manual in history. Can anyone tell me how to lock the keypad?
Thanks.
WiFi for T-M sites only?
My ISP has local hot-spots, but the SDA seems restricted to the T-M hot-spots. Is there there a work-around?
WiFi security?
I'm tempted to jump into the smartphone market, but don't know anything about built-in security. Can these phones safely be used off-the-shelf to, e.g., retrieve email (since this requires sending your pw)? Or do you have to do some configuring yourself?
No ...
No, the screen is a notch below the E398.
