Some questions...
- What is "Sleep Mode", and when should it be used? (as opposed to completely turning off)
- Is there a way to add a pause, followed by your 4-digit pin, to your voicemail preset? This was possible in all my previous non-Android phones, and I find it hard to believe this would not be an option in Android.
- I'm happy with Android 2.3, and wondering if Launcher Pro really improves the experience a lot. I figure if it ain't ...

setting voicemail password
Does anybody know how I can preset my vm password to enter automatically whenever I dial my vm?
With other phones, I would simply go into my vm setting and after my mobile number, enter a "pause" followed by my 4-digit pw. Any ideas?
Startup sound?
All my LG phones of the past (8300, enV, Voyager) offered the option to turn off sounds during startup, but I haven't figured out how to do this with the Ally, any suggestions?
Even when I turn all sounds off on the phone, then power down, then turn it back on, it still plays the annoying LG chime. There has to be a way to turn this off! grrrrr...
Re: Voicemail shortcut?
works like a charm! thanks again, this makes my life a LOT easier (especially when checking vm while driving with bluetooth... not like we can voice dial yet...)
:)
Re: Voicemail shortcut?
Thank you dquickNC. Unfortunately, I think I need to add one or two pauses between *86 and my password (this was always necessary in the past). I'm not sure how to add them here... any advice?
BTW, I tried listing my pw directly after *86 and it didn't work.
Viewing imported movies
There are a number of free programs out there that let you convert movies on your computer into files that can be viewed on your phone (or PSP, ipod, etc..).
- what video formats does the Droid support? and assuming it supports multiple, which seems to be the best quality?
- which specific program is the most recommended to convert these video files? and what settings are needed?
Basically, I (and probably many others) would like to know exactly how ...
Voicemail shortcut?
Is there a way I can program my password into the voicemail, so I don't have to enter it each time? I knew how to do this with all my previous LG phones, and I'm sure the it's possible on the Droid...
Some apps questions/comments...
- I don't need a wikipedia app, but think it would be nice to have. There's a few of them out there, does anybody recommend one over another?
- What is the best weather app? I have WeatherBug, and am happy with it, just wondering if there's something better.
- I'm currently using Astro to manage my files/folders, and it seems ok. I'd like to know if there is a cool photo viewer out there. PhotoBurst seems ...
Re: some MORE questions :-]
Thank you primus, I think I'll take you up on your above suggestions.
One more questions: I heard the memory card has to have certain folders to put different kinds of files in (like a special folder for ringtones). Do you know what folders I should create on the memory card? Or does it come with all necessary folders pre-installed? I want to do this once, so I'm not taking the mem card out too often.
some MORE questions :-]
I've been using the phone for about 24 hours and love it. Just wondering:
- M3PO already answered this one, but I'm really hoping it's possible to use voice-activated dialing through bluetooth. Has anybody gotten this to work?
- I'm assuming when I see a blinking green light in the upper right corner, it signifies something... txt msg? voicemail? or just any general alert?
- my main email address is through yahoo, and was wondering the easiest way ...
Re: questions...
Thank you Robkhb and smittycal, I appreciate it, and will definitely be getting this phone soon.
- I hadn't even heard of Slacker, but now I know. How does it compare with Pandora? I'm glad this phone does both!
- How big is the picture caller ID? I'm hoping bigger than a postage stamp, with this huge screen...
questions...
As I've only owned "dumb" phones in the past (currently have env3), I already know I'm going to be blown away by this phone. Some questions:
- does it support individual alert sounds for text messages (no sarcasm needed, we're looking at you smittycool...)
- is pandora.com supported?
- how loud is the ringer? how strong is the vibrate?
- does it support a folder structure for storing media? meaning, can I create separate directories for different types of pics, ...
some enV Touch questions...
I presently have the Voyager and am seriously considering getting the enV Touch. Any info on the following would be greatly appreciated:
1. I read somewhere that you can record video in not only 176x144 and 320x240 (just like the Voyager), but also 640x480... is this true? If so that would be great!
2. How impressive is the threaded text messaging? It sounds cool, just wondering how well it's been implemented here (considering it's Verizon's first go ...
a few qeustions/concerns...
Is there a shortcut to view yahoo email? On my old enV, it seemed easier (I check my email at work often, and want the process to be as easy as possible). As of now, the shortest route I can take to check my yahoo email is as follows:
- access Mobile Web (I have this set to a shortcut)
- select Email from the VZW home screen
- select Yahoo Mail from the email screen
Also, what are pro's and ...
Re: Applications
while I do like cool graphical apps that show off the Dare, simple text does the trick.
I simply do a google search (txt to GOOGL or 46645), type "weather 90210", and seconds later I receive a txt msg stating current temp, wind, humidity, plus outlook for the rest of the week.
My life is much better and easier with the "google text". it's totally free, just like using google on a computer, and all it uses is 2 txt ...
Bluetooth issue
I currently use the Plantronics Voyager 510, and always thought it was excellent. It worked well on my 8300 and enV, but not so much on my Dare... people can hear me, but they say I sound like I'm fading in and out. After I heard this from the 3rd person, I knew it wasn't on their end.
I love my Dare and it works fantastic without bluetooth - I hear people, and they hear me fine. ...
Re: Applications
I had the enV right before I got the Dare... how did you use accu-weather on it? is it an app? or a web site accessed on the phone? either way I'm interested!
Re: some Dare-ing questions...
thanks willv, that was helpful
it's funny, I'll sometimes read a post from somebody saying that text alerts are possible on other phones (like the 8300), but no details are ever given. my guess is that's an urban myth... unless somebody can prove me wrong...
some Dare-ing questions...
I just got the Dare and am very impressed with the phone. Upgraded from the enV, and 8300 before that. Each phone I've had, I've thought was pretty much the best phone (at that time). I'm happy to say the Dare continues this tradition.
I do have some questions about it, and I apologize if they are a tad long-winded...
