in the Article: SafeLink Expands its Free Services to State of Maine forum

SafeLink provides low-income families with a free phone and a year's worth of service that includes 68 minutes per month and SafeLink provides eligible low-income households 68 free monthly airtime minutes, unlimited access to 911 and services such as voicemail, text, call waiting, international calling, and caller ID. So are there two different sets of 68 minutes?

Not that it's assumed or anything, but I don't think it is really necessary in the summary.

Is it AT&T's software or Pantech?
Apr 16, 2010, 5:08 PM
in the Article: Review: Pantech Link forum

I know AT&T always has a say, but comparing the software from a Pantech AT&T device to, say the Samsung Strive, it's pretty different. I always figured it had more to do with the manufacturer, unlike Verizon (I'm not sure about their current ones), where every phone had that same menu styling.

I've always preferred memory cards as a back up, and have yet to have one fail on me (granted, I've only had 2 in the past 4 years). It's more convenient when you're switching phones, or if you need a replacement. Also, what phone doesn't support mass storage mode these days?

What makes it interesting is that all of these news articles are linked to ggdt and Engadget. So think about how much they're driving over there. Assuming people actually like to read the full articles .

Of course, I'm just grumpy because of all the Apple news, while I'm sure everyone else is freaking out. But I don't think Phone Scooop has to worry about page views. It would be very surprising to find someone who has researched mobile anything that has never visited. Then again, we're talking about Apple's fanbase  .

Well, major announcements are. But they always do seperate parts for the in depth articles that are updated daily. And I suppose you're right; a text only In Depth article wouldn't be warrranted.

in the Article: Motorola Licenses Antenna Tech from Fractus forum

Normally I would jump on the anti-Apple bandwagon, but the only I thing I hate more are patent trolls. The ones who sit around and do nothing, hide under bridges, then one day emerge and throw around lawsuits to everyone and their mother. A lot of these have no basis (remember RIM's big one a while back), but sometimes it's too costly (both time and money) to go to court. I'm wondering if Motorola decided to pay up before things ...

Think of it this way: they're selling the exclusivity of those airwaves. Otherwise, you have tons of conflicting devices on the same band with neither device working right. It's not perfect, but someone has to regulate the waves.

Then don't buy it, simple as that. They're not saying you are required to buy these chargers. On another note, these would actually end up saving you (albeit a small amount) of money by not drawing any power when a phone isn't plugged in. But I'm sure you already are in the habit of unplugging your chargers when they arn't in use and you phone is fully charged.

in the Article: AT&T-Compatible Version of Nexus One for Sale from Google forum

If they try to sell you that PDA with Exchange data for $45, don't take it. The personal plan for $30 will work, but you may not even need that. If AT&T doesn't recognize the model, they can't force you to get a certain data plan, now can they? Years ago, I had exchange working on an 8525 with just a standard, no frills data plan. If you have unlimited messaging, you're looking at $10, otherwise $15. It's my understanding ...

That's a negative unless AT&T actually starts selling the phone. What kind of tech support would you be looking for? Other than troubleshooting call quality, there isn't much they can do. Warranty and everything would go through Google.

I know! I would expect this sort of thing from Verizon (but I guess they haven't), but not from the usually more open AT&T. Does anyone know if there is any way to add the feature back on? Possible firmware upgrade? I'm guessing since this is an exclusive device, we'll have to wait.

Granted, there isn't much more to say, but I would like to see how easy it is to navigate around, visit other pages, or even if it supports multiple windows. I was playing with a Backflip yesterday, and everything looks similar to this one. One thing that was annoying was navigating to a different page required you to bring up a separate menu, choose "Go," and then type in the URL. This just seems like a pain, when the title ...

I'll take a stab. They would spin off the handset division as its own company. We don't know if they'll keep the same name, but it would be independant from the rest of Motorola. Kind of like PCD being UTStarcom's former handset division, they were "spun off."

It's probably much cheaper than establishing a new mobile division. This way, they already have something to build on. Who knows, if it goes well they'd be able to make the $100 mil back in no time.

It's really hard to say if that's price fixing or not, you've only given one example. It would be price fixing if you went to several manufacturers and they all had the same price for the screen, but it still wouldn't be enough. They would have to show that they all colluded and agreed upon that higher price.

Ah, the fun of impulse posting. I really wish they'd integrate more BlackBerry shorcuts, like space to scroll down, T to jump to the top, etc... Using the number pad is a strain... Opera Link isn't available in Beta, by the way. It does run smoother than 4.2 and tabbed browsing = win.
