Re: Big Red Sucks!
Really? All the drama because they're going to use a structure similar to virtually every other internet provider? Were you expecting them to be different?
Re: Why?
Why? Most home connections are structured the same way, except the majority don't allow you to change the data cap. I'm not saying I like it, but it isn't out of the ordinary, either.

Re: This argument is old and tired.
"The problem is that devices are becoming more and more powerful. as a culture, we consume mobile content more than almost any other culture in the world "-Menno
This is true, however this should also come as a surprise to nobody. At least, to nobody working in a field as future oriented as communications. There are 10 and 20 dollar options available, but look at what you get for it. 25 megs, 75 megs... Then compare their ...
This argument is old and tired.
This isn't the first time he has banged this particular drum. This line has been used time and again to justify rate changes/increases to "better charge the customers actually using data." What you don't see, however, is a corresponding decrease in data charges for customers not using as much data. Whether you examine the food industry, the cable industry, telephony or cellular, you don't see decreased rates for low use customers. The all you can ...
Re: Think about what you just said...
Google sells the phone to Tmobile at a loss. essentially subsidizing T's purchase. In exchange, Tmobile promises to pay Google a sum of money after a set period of time, usually 3-6 months. By doing so, Google gets to sell more phones at lower price points and Tmobile has time to generate revenue from the customer they sold the phone to. If a customer breaks their contract before they've achieve ROI, both companies lose.
Re: but if they make wi-fi hotspots more efficient... / billing?
Alot of electronics put themselves into a "wait" state, a lower power state that still lets them accept some outside input, whether it's to wake up and start making coffee at a certain time, or begin a scheduled backup or just turn on at the touch of a button and be instantly available for use. Many of these states are energy efficient only in comparison to what they normally draw, and even the ones that are pretty efficient ...
Re: PBAP profile required????
PBAP- Phonebook access profile. It really shouldn't be a problem at this point, but research the phone you want on phonescoop first and it will have which BT profiles the phone supports listed. Happy shopping.
Re: Syncing with computer
Looks like what we need, though.
Re: droid wish list
Try this. Go into you're calendar, change to the month view and then hit your home key. The next time you bring up your calendar, the default should be monthly.
Re: droid wish list
++ to this one. I'm keeping an eye out for a desktop manager that will offer at least some of the same functionality as a Berries.
Re: droid wish list
Already done, but a file explorer is one of those things that should have been included in the system- even just a rudimentary one.
I'm looking at the Droid as a viable sales alternative to Berry and Windows Mobile solutions out there, so I was hoping for a more mature experience out of the box. Right now I'm collecting a list of "must have" apps that we can download for our new Droid customers to give them ...
Re: droid wish list
To that list I would add
-Desktop syncing/backup software. 1 area RIM does right is their desktop software(this does not include the POS media manager)
-File manager. Maybe I missed this, but I couldn't find where to browse the directory structure of my phone without connecting it to a pc.
Sweet phone, though.
Re: Ericsson CTO himself said 3G didn't live up to it's true promise, are you going to question him
Well, one of the issues you run into consistently when trying to rollout a WiFi network is topology. How do you get coverage to overlap and work around all the obstacles in your path, be it a building, wall, whatever. Setting up multiple pops will help get the job done, i.e. meshing, but current tech handled it pretty inefficiently. With WiMax, you have greater speeds coupled with more flexible and efficient routing and deployment methods, which ...
Re: Ericsson CTO himself said 3G didn't live up to it's true promise, are you going to question him
Yeah, I have plenty of 3G where I'm at. We'have had it for years, but I'm big on competetion and I see 4G as an awesome opportunity to serve rural and infrastructure poor areas that most companies traditionaly do not serve- or at least, do not serve well.
LTE is global, and though it hasn't deployed yet, it is an agreed upon standard by a bevy of companies worldwide. Not to say the WiMax won't achieve ...
Re: Ericsson CTO himself said 3G didn't live up to it's true promise, are you going to question him
I live in Montana, an area that has been underserved by most carriers. The surrounding states don't fair much better. I don't look for Clear to make it out here anytime soon, or LTE, for that matter. LTE will make it out here first, though, I have no doubt. Clear has to be able to show a very solid rollout and potential for profits to keep their investors happy, and rural deployment won't be part ...
Re: Ericsson CTO himself said 3G didn't live up to it's true promise, are you going to question him
I can see where you're coming from, I feel the same way about LTE. Sprint/Clear do not serve my area of the US, but Verizon does, and eventually, so will AT&T. I liked what WiMax had to offer, but LTE is what will be here first. Either way, I think that until fiber hits every home, it's wireless technologies that will be paving the way for the next generation Net.
Re: Ericsson CTO himself said 3G didn't live up to it's true promise, are you going to question him
No worries. I find your love of Clear a bit over the top, but if the service is all that and a bucket of chicken wings, no harm no foul. 8) The definition of broadband these days is too low by far, but you mention your experience with cable speeds. Where I live, depending upon what parts of town you live in, cable speeds often drop to that or lower. I hope that ...
Re: Ericsson CTO himself said 3G didn't live up to it's true promise, are you going to question him
That really isn't anything new. Most technologies do not live up to their theoretical promise. The bandwidth statement he made is already being made w/ regards to 4G technologies, so something old is new again.
Re: Transparent...
The Net Neutrality debate, and the involvement of the FCC with it, was around before Obama was elected president. I realize you're pushing a political/idealogocial agenda and not one regarding the current discussion, but you'll be far more successful pushing said agenda if you know what we're discussing.
Re: How can this be a problem?
For some, yes, but a lot of customers do not do electronic statements for anything, whether it is due to a lack of computer/internet access, basic recordkeeping, or otherwise. Many large cities and a ton of rural areas do not have easy access to the technology that makes e-billing a convenience. Furthermore, charging for a basic bill sets a bad precedent. It's like ordering food to go and then being charged a couple of bucks on ...
Re: Missing the real reason
And answering my post with yet another ad hom does not take away from its validity. To your credit, at least you posted a defense of your situation this time, though I question how much of a defense it is.
I did not say prisoners had a right to cell phone use, nor did I say that use should be cheap. I merely pointed out that revenue, not crime, is the real reason they want to ban cell ...
Re: How can this be a problem?
This isn't about detailed statements anymore, the fee they're referring to now is for basic statements.
Re: Missing the real reason
Very astute of you to notice. We were actually talking about the reason for jamming the cell signals in prisons. But glad you could join the conversation, the ad hominem not withstanding.
I say again, the reason behind the jamming is revenue based, nothing more. Any additional benefit is purely circumstance. Prisoners have been communicating and directing their affairs beyond their cells for hundreds of years and don't need a phone to get the job done, ...
Re: Missing the real reason
No conspiracy behind it at all. It's an excellent revenue stream that provides the prison system with capital that has no competition. It doesn't matter who pays the bill, it matters that the system gets the money.
Missing the real reason
I think most people are missing the real reason the prisons, both private and government owned, are wanting to block cellphone signals. Revenue. The use of a cellphone in prison circumvents the prison's own very profitable telephone system. Inmates and their families are charged exorbant rates to talk to each other. It's not that officials are angry about dirty deeds being discussed over the cellphone, it's that they can't charge for it when they are.

A Question about Per Megabyte Pricing.
I did a quick search but couldn't find what I am looking for and the Sprint site is mostly firewalled.
What I want to know is, what is the charge per megabyte on the Sprint network, and what services count towards that total? Also, what plan is available to eliminate that charge?
I'm doing a comparison of how companies are charging for data, so any help would be wonderful. Thanks.

Re: Question from an idiot customer...
From a sales perspective, it's frustrating, but I see a lot of people who like the additional features of the device but have no use for email or web, at least not at $30-$45 a month. Me, I used my pda to get around my firewall at work and to keep track of my office email when I was away from the computer. I was on a $25 unlimited plan and that's all I paid, otherwise I ...
Re: Dropped The Same Call 10 Times Between Chattanooga and Myrtle Beach
Right on. It's good to have your world view confirmed by trials and tribulations that confront you on a daily basis. Hopefully you have some other choices out there.
Re: Question from an idiot customer...
I get that request all the time for Berries. People see the advertising for the device and think cool phone, not sophisticated phone that does everything- for $29.99 more a month.
Re: Question for VZW Indirect reps...
Something you sign people up on when they bring in their own phone, otherwise it's just a mythical priceplan that I don't believe exists...
Re: Question for VZW Indirect reps...
Not in the one I've done. We do a one year contract about once every two to three months, max.
Re: Phonescoop, do your fact checking only 450,000 sold worldwide
The difference being that this is marketing, not accounting. Now, if Apple sold 1 Million, but only claimed to sell 100,000 for balance sheet purposes, that would be criminal.
Re: 1 million out of 21...
The media is usually way behind when it comes to noticing economic trends. About the time major media sources start reporting that we are, in fact, in a recession, the actual recession is usually about over. This lag time can be six months or more.
Re: Phonescoop, do your fact checking only 450,000 sold worldwide
That's common practice in mutlitple industries and isn't a surprise to anyone. Companies like Sony and Microsoft do it all the time in an effort to massage the numbers. Units shipped are considered as Units sold and that way they can make it look great for marketing, or to hide a softness in sales that they maintain isn't there(think Xbox 360 and PS3).
Re: Question for VZW Indirect reps...
I've seen that when you type in the wrong number, especially if you short it by one digit. I've also seen it when you attempt to access a corporate account and don't have that privilege.
