1 million out of 21...

It's 1 million out of 21 countries, actually that's terrible. In fact, it's deceiving. How many were sold in the US?..

If you ave it out it breaks down to a little over 47,000 sold from each country.

You mean the N95 whose most recent version was released over four months ago? Yeah, that's a fair comparison.

I admit, this topic is kinda...stupid. But this response doesn't make any more sense.

How is that terrible? That's 2.5 times the number originally estimated. What does the breakdown per country matter? If they start selling them in Zambia and Madagascar that would inevitably drive down the "average per country" but that has no effect on what's selling in The States and Europe. Besides, many countries sold out prematurely because they were not allotted as many.

The number would have been three times or more higher if they could supply the phones. I'm in the NY metro area and no one has phones, not Apple stores or AT&T stores.

Nice going Stevie boy!

I agree, if he made 5m, 5m would've sold, Sony and Nintendo did a better job of provididing supply.

Apple is giving the perception 1 million is a lot, contrast that with the number of Samsung Instincts which were sold in the US at release. The first 3 days 240,000 Instincts were sold, at 47,000 a day ave for the iphone that adds up to 141,000 the first 3 days in the US. Apple has been over hyping the 3G iphone for some time, one would think it would hit 1 million in the US alone.

Investors from ATT said the iphone would have to beat the release date of the 1st iphone in the US, it did not. ATT is concerned about it's profits, due to the revenue sharing deal ATT (stupidly) signed with Apple, ATT was not going to make a profit until 2010, now that the figures have been released it is most likely that date will be pushed back.

Your logic is flawed. First mistake you are assuming that all countries received an equal share and they did not. Second mistake, let me remind you no one expect this level of fever because it was considered only slightly better then the original, they have developed a fever. Third mistake, you assume it is a failure because to you it did not match or beat the instinct and you are thinking on a national scale, when we are discussing a global market.

Please let the numbers breakdown per country before you make a judgement, second remember in the history of cellular technology, no phone has ever generated a sale of 1 million units in 3 days. In that alone they are successful. As for ATT, they are not as stupid as you may think. Now that ...

Do you know what ave means?... For ATT it is very much national, especially when the U.S. is experiencing a recession. Can we say... 'More Job cuts'. The 3 day total for the iphone 3G is actually 225,000 which is only 80,000 more then I "AVERAGED" which still isn't great.

😁 we aren't in a recession... a recession is MORE than 2 fiscal Quarters of negative economy growth...

we haven't had that happen yet, therefore we have a SLOW market

Are you kidding me?? We aren't in a recession? Tell that to the 800,000 folks who lost homes the last six months, or the 6000 (conservative estimate) plus a month who have been losing jobs the passed 2 years. Banks have gone under in the last year, Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae are on the verge of closing, Indy Mac has been taken over by the Feds.

Either your sarcasm is weak or you watch Fauxnews.

The media is usually way behind when it comes to noticing economic trends. About the time major media sources start reporting that we are, in fact, in a recession, the actual recession is usually about over. This lag time can be six months or more.

Oh so your telling me that 800,000 folks that purchased houses they KNEW they couldnt afford, the banks were too money hungry to deny them loans. So that shows that 275 MILLION americans are in a recession?

Your information is flawed. Obviously you have no idea about the mortgage and realestate industry. People are loosig thier homes not because they could not afford them but becuase they "became" unafordable. Most people signed to these 2-7 year loans with interest only payments or of little interest. Most did not know that if the interest rate was 7% and you signed up for a 3 year loan with 2% the remaining 5% percent would go againts their equity and in the process added to their total...

So what your telling me is people thought they could cheat the system and sign up for a loan at 3% interest for the first 5 years and then BEFORE the interest rate would jump form 3% to 10%... then they found out the price of their house was artificially inflated (because everyone was doing this) and now they are stuck with a house they KNEW they couldnt afford after 5 years and they want us to bail them out?--- how would they learn a lesson if we pay their house off for them?

No, it was a way to purchase that would "save" you money in th beginning. Most people just figured they would refinance into a normal 30 year loan. The income requirement for a 5 year loan or a 30yr loan so if they ...

I'm just saying, kick them out of their houses and sell their houses for what they are really worth not what an artificially stimulated market says they are worth...

A couple things here...

1. ATT makes nothing for launches outside their coverage areas, so his logic still stands pretty well in that regard

2. No phone was launched in 21 countries simutaneously, and so clearly a larger launch is to be expected, but in no way does 1 million indicate any type of phenom.

And Apple is still sticking ATT for their revenue, so yea, they are still kinda stupid.

Yeah, exactly. I think the number is still noteworthy, but it's not as impressive when you think about that. No phone has ever been released in 21 countries at the same time. We don't actually know what is supposed to be impressive.
