LG VX8600

Jun 25, 2008 by RobErt7

i have had this phone now for a little while. I like the phone due to the fact that its thin, light(er) than other phones and does everything i need it to do.

PROS: well styled, sleek, nice sound quality, easy to access SD slot

CONS: lose signal in basements and during some light rainstorms, shutdown due to possible "overheating", fingerprint magnet

I have dropped this phone many times so i believe that is what causes my loss of signal

Super ultra slim...looking good with my VX 8600!

I am totally in love with this phone. It's so elegant and slim. Personally, I don't see the fuzz with fingerprints...Just wipe it against your jeans and stop eating greasy food!! Seriously, the phone is really sturdy and does not scratch easily at all. I think that's really the key!

Other things I love: Super slim, just the right size, easy to use, good camera, amazing call quality, very nice display.

Criticism: if I had to say one, I guess the fingerprints but really it's not a big deal since there's no scratches.

Enjoy!!

AWeSOME!!!

It is quite possibly the best flip phone I have ever held in my hands, and I hold alot of phones considering I work at RadioShack.

Pros-
vibrate
long battery life
can customize your arrow shortcut keys
can set individual ringers
bluetooth
speakerphone
mp3 player
loud music through speaker
loud ringer
large buttons(take some getting used too)
great design, it just looks awesome
great U.I
looks awesome(very slim)
Front touch screen allows you to view missed calls, incoming calls, answer calls, start music, and view txt msgs
very large and clear screen internally and externally
MicroSD slot (you can buy 1GB microsd's at radio shack there usually about 20 bucks)
Can put music from computer to your phone as a song, or a ringtone if you do it properly
the camera looks decent, however the video is somewhat a poor quality, but you can set videos under 15 seconds as the background, with the microsd card you can take up to an hour of video(must change a setting)

cons-
screen gathers finger prints easily, but they are also easily removed

If you plan on dropping your phone on concrete it will scratch it a little more than a regular phone, however the phone is very sturdy

sometimes for whatever reason the speakerphone is hard to hear people over, but maybe they just need to speak up.

There is no phone jack, so you have to plug in the adapter(that comes with the phone)

all the cons are small things, the pros are great, so over all I rate this phone a strong 5/5.

one of the best

ive used almost every high end phone Verizon has had out in the past 2 years and this is one of my favorites right along side the vx9900 and vx8300. mainly because of the way it looks and feels. it does have its issues though which will hopefully be corrected in the upgraded model.

pros

easy to text, suprisingly despite the very flat keypad, love the buttons (send around 2000 txts per month)
fits great in a pocket
looks stylish
mp3 player sounds great
loud ringtones
large beautiful screen and large font
all the features they packed into it

cons

camera is not as good as any of the other
LG's with 1.3 megapixels for some reason.

speakerphone is not loud enough

battery is not great, have to charge it once every 2 days, but i have had worse (vx8100)

for some reason motorola and samsung seem to get better sound quality than lg's

volume side buttons are too small and hard to get to when trying to silence the phone quickly

seems fragile

i definitely recommend this phone to anyone except old people or kids. the issues it has are just minor annoyances, totally worth it having such a sleek, feature-packed phone.

Happy with my choice LG 8600

Jan 19, 2007 by scubadave

Just picked up my LG 8600 using my new every 2 year from Verizon. Paid $29 after rebate. I'm coming from a Treo 600, so Bluetooth, VCast and voice dialing are all new to me.

Phone calls are very clear. I get 2 bars in my office and the phone sounds crystal clear. I also got a Motorola HS850 as a present, and although I've never used Bluetooth before, it only took me two minutes to pair the phone and headset together. The headset does give a little static crackle occasionally - I was using it about 10 feet from the phone.

I logged onto Verizon's Backup Assistant and cut and pasted about 100 names from my Outlook contact into the phone. It took about an hour.

My first impressions are that I love this thing. I know lots of folks have complained about the speakerphone, but it sounds fine to me when I have it cranked up to about 75% on the master volume.

The automated voice dialing is great - no training necessary. You just have to wait for the phone to prompt for input, you can't talk while it is talking to you. The few times I tried it, both with the bluetooth ear piece and talking into the phone directly, I found it pretty accurate. It works much better than IBM ViaVoice on my computer, if that means anything to anyone.

I was trying to decide between the 8300 and the 8600, and decided on the 8600 because it's a newer design. I figured why spend money on a year old phone?

The screen is bright and sharp. The buttons on the side of the phone are pretty small and I've hit the wrong button many times, but that's an operator issue.

I don't text message very often, but for entering contacts and dialing phone numbers, I find the keypad every bit as usable as a standard cellphone keypad with push-buttons.

The phone is a great toy, and the voice quality is excellent. Finger prints - who cares? I never wiped anything in my life, it's a non-issue for me.

LG FINALLY DID IT

Literally for years I have been wondering when verizon would figure out that low end mass produced free phones are not what people want, with this phone, they've finally broken through that barrier! LOL
I love what people have been complaining about with this phone,
fingerprints? who cares?
flat keypad? I think it looks cool!
build quality? I never thought LG's were overly cheap feeling to begin with, and isn't a light phone a good thing anyway?
The touch-sensitive keys on the front are easily lockable so you don't hit them in your pocket or anything like that.
Screen on the front and inside are very bright and vibrant in my opinion, apparently not as nice as the chocolate, but there are two of them instead of one!
Smaller than the razr but just as thin, awesome!
RF is better than any LG I've ever used, I have heard it is comparable to the 8300, which is not as good as the moto e-815 but still pretty damn good!
Speaker-phone is weak, but with a bluetooth capable phone who cares anyway :)+ who uses a speaker-phone in a loud area anyway?
Animations as wallpaper on the front and main screen, super cool, you can even use your own videos!!
Camera is AWESOME! pictures look pixelated on the phone but once transferred to PC, they look as good as some digital cameras! One thing, a flash would be nice
Microsd slot haven't used yet but a nice thing to have never the less, especially with a good camera!
Music player don't use it so its not really an issue with me :)
The UI? I hope all phones in the future let you set your own interface, its so much better to actually have a choice!
My personal opinion? for the money you can't beat it! I paid 129.99 which is considerably less than some of the other high end thin phones that have come out recently!!! BRAVO LG!

not bad

Nov 22, 2006 by mmknouri

i just got the phone today....it is great, but like anything out there, it has good and bad things about it

Pros
size
weight
look
mp3 player
great screens (both)
easy to use menus
battery life (not bad for all the stuff you do on it)
calls are clear
i love the v-cast features
ringtones sound nice
can put mp3 from computer to phone using LG usb cord
Cons
finger prints everywhere!
no flash
speakers are weak
buttons are good but you just need to get used to them

overall

this is a great little phone. anyone who is looking for a stylish phone, this is the one! i think is is better looking that the Lg Vx 8500 the Chocolate. i love it

Absolute Steal

Nov 16, 2006 by mm_style

This phone is the one I have been waiting for, there's just one thing I can't figure out... WHY SO CHEAP? $250... I've had this phone for 2 days now and for the life of me I can't figure out why such a high end phone has such a low (full retail) price. I love it. I had the KRZR and the new phone appeal wore off too quickly because of slow menues, poor signal, and mediocre music performance. The 8600 is a complete 180.

PROS
good reception
call clarity
texts on outside screen
light
BEAUTIFUL
nice fast menus, not ugly like the vzw red bar interface

CONS
flat keypad? most likely something I'll get used to

The Chocolate to flip for!!

Nov 16, 2006 by rhino2006

Is it possible to actually "love" a phone? All the hype surrounding this phone was worth the wait. I agree that there really isn't much to improve on here. This phone is the RAZR minus the Motorola branding and without the plague of issues the RAZR had. I know I know it's only been a few hours, however, I have already ran it through the gamut (MP3, clarity, VZNavigator, etc.) and everything has worked like a dream. For a great experience order a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter and hook it into an fm transmitter and enjoy VZNavigator and MP3s through your car stereo.

Pros:
Amazing form factor
Intuitive Menu
great MP3 player
loud ringers
Not a Motorola
2gb of music/picture/video very nice
excellent clarity
**READ TEXT FROM THE FRONT SCREEN***
Cons:
It doesn't tuck me in at night and whisper sweet nothings while I slumber. For real though the only cons I can think of is there isno Music alarm clock like the slider choco and you can't listen to music while you text
