A Good Phone

Dec 18, 2005 by pwfb

I have been using mobile phones for over 20 years. Back in the days when the unit was mounted in the trunk and a mobile operator had to connect the call! The point being that I have seen the industry mature, for better and worse, and I have used MANY phones.

Some argue that this phone is overpriced. Having paid over $400 for mine, it is hard to disagree, but, early adopters of ANY new technology pay too much, so this is my problem not VZW's or Motorola.

As for the phone itself, here are my pros and cons.

PROS:

1) Size, obviously
2) Ring volume
3) Ear piece volume
4) Makes and receives calls even when no bars are showing!

CONS:

1) Because I slide the phone into the change pocket of my jeans, I end up hitting the side rocker button and change the ring to vibe or alarm function unintentionally.

2) It has a camera. I don't want a camera, I want a phone.

3) I wish that it was tri-band, but, I knew this ahead of time, but I wish that it did.

4) Battery life is so-so.

5) Even though I pair it with my BT enabled car, I wish that Motorola made a fully vehicle installed car kit for the phone so I could get one (phone and kit) for my wife as she will never give up her pro car kit.

I have seen many comments about the standard ring tones, playing music on the phone, red banners, etc. For me, I will repeat a theme mentioned earlier. I WANT A PHONE and not an entertainment device. If I want to listen to music, I turn on my iPod. If I want to take a picture, I get my digital camera out. As for the ring tones, because of a hearing deficiency, I selected the old-school "ring-ring" tone and it works great.

Lastly, yes I wish that the phone had OBEX. In my case, ONLY so I could upload my phone book to my car without having to buy a separate phone to do so.

Moto finally did it - The best phone ever

Dec 17, 2005 by RichardM

My previous phone was the Moto E815; before that, the LG 7000 and LX 6100. I liked the reception on the E815, but hated the bulky size. This new razr phone is incredible. The size is perfect. It fits into any pocket, even your back pants pocet, and you won't even know it's there. When opened, it's perfect size with a big screen, big keypad, and, all the side buttons are on the upper half, so that you don't accidently press them will talking.
The call clarity is the best I've ever heard--on both ends. And reception is superb. I tried it in places where reception has been difficult, and this one worked fine. The call clarity, volume, reception, and speaker phone are better than the Moto E815, as well as any of the LG's. The photo quality far surpasses any other cell phone camera I've had. I could not believe how great this phone works.
The speakerphone sounds good on both ends, so is actually usuable.

Pros:
Earpiece Quality/Volume
Keypad
Form Factor
Well-built
Buttons are located in upper flip
Reception--best I've had
Call quality unsurpassed.
Super Cool
Very thin and compact, yet sturdy.

Cons--nothing signficant. Doesn't have an MP3 player, nor a built-in toaster.

I think Motorola has set the standard with this, just like the Startac and V60 did at their time. After several years of not-so-good quality, it's nice to know Moto's back!

RAZR headset jack

Dec 17, 2005 by Melmin1970

For all who have purchased the v3c RAZR and dont want to use a BT headset you can buy a mini usb (EMU) headset on line. On the left side of the phone the same port for charging supports a headset.

RAZR - It's about time...

Background- Startac, LG VX10, and LG VX700. This phone is all that it says it is. Overall, this phone is an excellent model from the Moto line. Coming from an LG, I would say Moto finally did it.

Pros-

Earpiece Quality
Keypad
Form Factor
Well-built
V-Cast

Cons-

Speakerphone
Battery Life
Plastic Holster does not seat phone well

Cool but...

First, I am a Verizon customer in NC. I was waiting for this phone as I have been a Moto/clamshell fan since the StarTac. The v60i was even better, and I have been happy with the Audiovox 9900 for the past 1.5 years.

PROS:
THIN - Very comfortable wherever you choose to tote it.
SOLID RECEPTION - 4-5 bars most everywhere in town
GOOD CALL QUALITY - handset sounds good
KEYS - nice feel (& lighting in dark)

CONS:
BATTERY LIFE - In 4 days use mine ran out between the 1.5 & 2 hour mark each day!! Starts beeping low battery around 1.4 hours.
HEADSET OPTIONS: I used in with Moto BT500 and it sounded pretty good, but people could tell I was not on handset. No jack for wired headset can be tough if you are a heavy user.

I will be returning it as I often talk 2 hours a day and do not want to find myself worried about the battery.

Bottom line, if you only talk 1 hour a day and want a nice phone that fits in any pocket comfortably this may be for you.
As for the cool factor, I agree it is sharp, but the uniqueness is fading rather quickly! I have noticed 2-4 people a day this week using them!! I guess many Verizon customers have gotten their hands on 'em.

4.66 out of 5

I am a big Motorola and LG fan. I ditched my vx6000 for a v710, and my v710 for a vx8100, and my vx8100 for the Razr. I will never stary from VZ again. Made a huge AT&T mistake 3 years ago. Anyway, back to the phone:

Pros:
Loud ring
Large display
Form factor has grown on me
Blows v3 GSM out of the water
PHENOMINAL Obeymoto software!
Interfaces great with H500 BT headset.

CONS:
WILL NOT VIBE & RING SIMULTANEOUSLY!
no stereo speakers (VERY minor)
I miss Moto's fully customizable d-pad and softkeys (somewhat major, but I'll live)
Battery life exponentially decreases with BT
I miss the ability to read txt and snooze the alarm from the front of the vx8100 (again, minor)

The Razr outperforms the vx8100 reception-wise. In a specific part of town (Tucson, AZ) I regurlarly dropped with the LG. Driven it 5 times with the moto on my hip w/ the h500 and have yet to drop. The vibe and ring feature is the only thing keeping this phone from a perfect 5.

It's a keeper

I've tried many phones to replace my Samsung SCH-a530, but this is the one that will do it. Form factor is most important for me. Fits in my pocket and I forget it's there.

PROs:
1. Size
2. Reception
3. Large display
4. Very good speakerphone
5. Easy one-hand dialing

CONs:
1. GUI. Noticeably slow screen reaction. Few customization options. Few quick ways to access semi-common functions. I had assumed it would have the same software that the E815 uses. It doesn't. The E815 has significantly better software.

If you don't mind the E815's larger size, I would recommend it over the V3c. Otherwise, the software drawbacks are tolerable and you'll be pleased with the V3c.

Not a winner in my book

Coming from a long line of Motorola phones in my past I was awaiting the V3c for a long time. I have always been a big time moto fan because of their excellent reception in the area i live in and the fact that they are the most not verizon structured phones verizon offers(ed), you pros know what I mean. Long story short coming from the e815 this RAZR is a BIG disappointment. I hope like BMW & Mercedes read auto forums, Verizon reads these forums because this is phone is horrible. I could go on and on writing but we all know your looking for to pros & cons...

Pros:
-Small size
-Looks cool
-High-Quality Case

Cons:
-No menu button, cingular has it!
-Poor vol,sp phone button placement
-No camera flash
-Ringer not very loud
-Speakerphone just ok
-Distortion in speakerphone when loud
-Distortion in ringer when loud
-Charger jack on side, good for best buy, bad for people who drive.
-Battery life poor
-Phone gets way too hot, and im in CT (DEC)
-Switches settings when bumped in pockets/purse
-No headphone jack has Bluetooth only
-Text messaging way too complicated
-Cant customise softkeys or homescreen, stays with GIN, Vcast etc.
-Difficult to move speed-dials
-Cant remove red verizon color from top and botton of screen
-Vcast ad everytime you turn on phone
-No media card slot
-Outside screen too small to read from distance
-Comes with huge travel charger cord which may require its own luggage
3 times the size of the phone!

Gotta love Moto

Dec 15, 2005 by mnm101

I have always been a big fan of the Moto line up. This one just may make it to my 'mvp' list.

Pros:
+ VZW Service (Best reception ever)
+ Sleek -n- kool design
+ Fully enabled Bluetooth
+ Speakerfone (even w/ flip closed) Perfect
+ The voice recognition is incredible
+ hi res screen
+ EVDO service

Cons:
- UI is not so customizable (not from VZW UI)
- No expandable memory
- Length of Videos are limited
- Internal memory is limited period
- Phone looks and feels like a toy.... guess I need some getting use too.

Overall, phone is not so bad; add 'Nation's most reliable network' and it's perfect.

OBEX and Vibe Then Ring both working on Verizon V3c

Dec 14, 2005 by xzi

Just so everyone is aware, I've only had the phone a day and I've already got all the following working thanks to the guys over at Howard Forums... OBEX, Vibe Then Ring, Mobile PhoneTools (MP3s, file transfers, and Outlook syncing). Turns out this phone is not as "locked down" as we thought it would be... if you're a little resourceful you can slide a few more things in the "Pro" column in these people's reviews...

As for the phone itself, I'm coming from a Samsung A530 (which is TINY) and I love the new RAZR. Wider and thinner is so much better than smaller and fatter (The A530). I love it so far...
