Re: what I did. long story
funny. while workng for VZW, I thought I heard it all...till today. What a deal on the Q! 199.99 is the price w/2y contract! U think UR getting over? Bud - Go ahead and buy out of the gate - I've got 3 pages of tech notes on the RAZR. How many do U think the Q will have, hmm? love MOTO but I'm smart enough to know when I buy a e815 and RAZR - and they dont meet expectations - well, if it quacks like a duck..............I had so much more to say, but decorum forced me to delete it. Just remember, we've heard it all. True, we do appreciate timely payments. Finally, the "what I did" only keeps our rates level to recover our expenses of having to Early Upgrade folks who demand nu fones every 6 months. Think about that.. do you REALLY have to have it NOW????
Re: Dropped calls??
There's your problem.. you're using motorola's.. And you're indoors.. I live in bellevue right around east gate I get great service outside and horrible service indoors.. because Verizon Wireless and every other carrier cannot guarantee service indoors..
Dialing commercial phone numbers with words
I know this is a very picky point, but I still felt compelled to mention it.
There are TONS of commercial phone numbers out there which you know by the words, rather than the numbers (ie: 1-800-FLOWERS ; 1-800-MATTRES - leave off the last "s" for savings :D )
I was in the airport last week and I wanted to get my Wall Street Journal delivered to my hotel room for the next few days instead of my home address (they'll do that for you if you call 1-800-JOURNAL and request it)
Well - you should have seen me at the airport gate with my eyes closed trying to visualize the keys on the telephone and spelling "JOURNAL" on my Q.
It's really not a big deal - but I still think somebody at Motorola should have had the foresight to have put a small app on the phone called "word dialing" or something.
They could have simply displayed a picture of a standard phone keypad on the screen when you enabled this app - so you could reference it when dialing. Or better yet - they should have enabled the app to translate the word you type into a phone number (so you could just type "800-JOURNAL" into the app and have it dial.
Once again - not a big deal - it only took me 10 seconds of looking like an idiot as I stared at the ceiling and visualized the phone keypad - but it was still a nuisance.
Just an idea that I think I would be nice to see in the future (or if any developer out there feels like getting to work :) - hint, hint)
This is What it's all About!!
This phone is going to be the truth. I am not the biggest fan of LG. However, I am a fan of how they have been out of the gate first lately utilizing new Cingular services. The were the first launch a PTT phone, UMTS phone, and now it's time for HSDPA. Nice work LG.

I especially loved it when LG released its first Cingular handsets like the C1300/G4015, G4050, and G4010/4011. Whoo!
Oh, wait...they were horrible.
Re: And then there's before the store opens
I used to have the same problem when I worked in a portrait studio. We were in the Kmart stores and didn't have a door we could close. We just used a plastic chain or a baby gate. I can't remember how many times I'd come in first thing in the morning or after lunch and would have customers already in there waiting. It was a pain because these were always the people who didn't pay any attention to their kids, and they'd be in the actual photo room playing around the camera. The hours were clearly posted, and yet they just assumed it didn't apply to them. It really sucked if they did that when I was in the photo room during my lunch taking a nap. Talk about a rude awakening!
Re: i was always told...
I guess they want a bigger slice of the market pie. I read somewhere that the sales of smartphones have recently surpassed the amount of 'regular' cell phone sales, so now it looks like there's even more money to be made in this niche.
It's probably a sort of a join the race or get left at the gate sort of deal. One would think that RIM will offer this multimedia flavor alongside their more business-like devices, in order to appeal to both business-tool-only crowd as well as the ones that want a gadget that does it all... at least, that would seem like the obvious thing to do. We'll see, I guess.
The other day was great for me (long)
Just like the subject says. The day started out with someone banging on my gates 30 minutes before the mall opened. "HELLOOOOOO! Is y'all opened yet!?" I sighed to myself, and responded, "No. The mall doesn't open for another half hour." The 'customer' responds "When do you open?" I respond again, with a slightly raised voice, "30 minutes!" They left and came back in about 5 minutes, "IS Y'ALL OPEN YET! I beens waitin an hour!" I responded "No. We open at 10. Come back then and I'd be more than happy to help you." Somehow it never ceases to amaze me how stupid people can be. You show up and ALL the stores are dark. There are no employees and all the gates are down. Why would you walk around beating on gates asking if places are open? Yes! We ARE open! I've just got the gate down because I assume people can walk through walls... So anyways, they come back after I open and want to pay their bill. I ask if it's a contract or prepaid phone (we can only take prepaid payments) and they don't know. Ok... I figure I'll pull up the account. Number doesn't come up. I ask "Did you port your number?" and she is like "What's that? I didn't do anything to my number. It's not my fault it won't come up!" She started getting really defensive. I asked to see her phone, which was a Cingular phone (We are U.S. Cellular) and the closest Cingular store is like 20 miles. I directed her to that store to pay her bill and of course she was mad that I refused to help her and made her drive an extra 30 minutes. Oh and it was MY fault she wasted her gas driving out here. The rest of the day passed much the same. The second person I got in wanted to buy te SLVR from Cingular. The 3rd customer that came in wanted to change her price plan... with Cingular. "What, you don't sell them too?" Uh... do you see ONE Cingular logo in this store? "Aren't you all the same?" LOL! I love how stupid people can be... and by love, I mean want to cut people apart with a bonesaw :D
Re: Great way to start my weekend.
When I was managing a GameStop in Phoenix, I had a guy at another store call me up about a similar but MUCH worse incident.
This lady came in with her young kid (probably three years old). The kid sat on the floor and apparently had really bad diarhea, so bad that it came out of his diaper and out of his pants.
The result was a pile of baby crap that took up for of our 1 sq. foot carpet squares. The lady picked her kid up, looked at the new guy and said "My kid just crapped on your floor". And then she left.
The new guy had to clean it up and then pull up the four defiled carpet squares. The great part was that it had seeped through the carpet squares onto the foundation and carpet glue in a liquidy mess.
I would've closed and locked the gate and made her clean it personally. Or beat her to death with an Xbox. Thank god I had just left that store for my new store the day before this happened...sucked for the new guy though ^_^
Gate 5 ???
Is this a wise move? How will this help in the long run

initial tester reports at HowardForums
OK, that's funny! HowardForums is just that . . . A forum for people to go talk and give their opinions. Just because Bob Smith says the Chocolate sucks, doesn't mean it does. For all we know, Bob Smith is either making things up or a total RAZR Fan Boy. Or, he's legit and giving his opinion.
The RAZR was in testing for Verizon for a VERY long time. Reception stunk. Issues with software. Verizon actually turned it down at one point. When a phone is in testing, it's doing just that . . . TESTING! To make sure it works. Not everything will be perfect right out of the gate. Phones test, find the flaws, then retest, find more flaws, then test again. Look at the RAZR and how many software upgrades it's already had. If that phone didn't sell like it did, Carriers would be bitching at Motorola like you wouldn't believe. 40% return rate, software upgrade after software upgrade do fix bugs which should have been fixed during testing. Thing is, phones in testing are there to be tested and worked on before the sheeples of the world use it.
The Chocolate actually tested on par with the VX9800, aka The V. The VX9800 is one of Verizon's best performing handsets, RF wise. It also goes along with the VX8000, another handset that also tested extremely well. Just to give you an idea, Verizon loved the VX8000 so much, they used it as their benchmarks for new handsets. And do not forget about the VX4400, VX8300 . . . and many more. Some may not be up to par with those and have issues (no one is perfect), but if EVERY LG handset has reception issues, why does Verizon push LG so much?
Yes, the Motorola E815 had great reception, but a lot of their other phones suck. The RAZR is one of the most returned handsets, EVER! Yet people love it and live by it. When it first came out with Verizon, I've heard so many people complain on how bad the reception was, it wasn't even funny. But people swear by it. Why?
Sometimes it's not the phones, but the network itself. Or the building you live in. Or the weather outside. Phones get better reception in the winter than in the summer. Why? Less trees. Also, how many people are on the network at one time? A tower is like a balloon, and can hold so much air at one time. A tower can only hold so many users at one time. But wait, Are you in a valley (line of sight)? Are you on a hill? So much goes into cellular service, calls will be dropped, signal will fluctuate. It's the nature of the game.
But to say that Bob Smith in a forums web site is the one to be trusted, is just stupid. No one in a forum should be trusted. They are all biased and have an agenda. Just like me.
Re: does it matter?
I personally would buy this iteration. I have been saying that Music phones should have an FM modulator built in for a while now. Add to that full SD and a good OS (though I would prefer Windows Mobile myself, of course I use Windows Media Player not iTunes) and great buttons, voila! You have a hit. Motorola has the ability they just shot themselves in the foot out of the gate.
TO be honest I really wanted to see the Samsung i300 series come to the States in a CDMA version. I will reserve my Samsung where are you rants for later.
Re: Ruining your day
I dream of blue turtles while Michael Bublé, accompanied by Burt Bacharach, sings "Home" from the top of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Re: Why would you ask something when the answer is that obvious?
Nope...Closed the gate cause I saw you coming! :D
Re: Busy?
wow. i am the person who opens up the gate and ends up staying an hour late. :(
i really need to start being more aggressive. outside of work, though, i can be a total wall.
Re: Thank you Rich & Eric and to all who support the Global Fund.
Yes, my posting regarding Orb's service was deleted by Eric Lin earlier this week as it came across as promoting a commercial service. In hindsight, I feel he was justified in it's removal seeing how it could open the flood gate for commercial spammers and I would hate to have been the one to do something to negatively impact the forums. I'm sorry you have anger managerment issues.

I mean do most people who work cingular feel this way? I do agree that sometimes I have dealt with other military people, and they feel that they should be given the world. It does get annoying at times, but I have compassion for them and try to help them as best I can. But an individual who gives up their civilian freedom for 2 or more years so that the rest of the country can go about their daily lives not even realizing what is going on. Yes, innocent people are dying their everyday. That is the cost of war. Almost 3000 of our mean and women have died in 3 years as well as almost 23000 being wounded in combat, one of which is me. I was lucky and only received minor shrapnel wounds and lost some hearing in my left ear. Others are coming home without arms, legs, and worst of all, emotional baggage that doesn't go away forever. SO for some retard to come on here an ask why these people deserve some extra privileges should go to a hostile place and deal with this crap and see it day in and day out. Then come back here and tell me that these individuals don't deserve just a little sympathy or a thanks for risking it all for YOU!!!!
well, my wife is in the army and has went to iraq and will be going back in august... do the military deserve some extra privileges, sure they do. do they deserve to have a deposit waive, no they do not. i agree with the waived activation, 19% of monthly service and 39% off equipment, but working at 2 different stores (one directly across from the main gate) and another just the few blocks from one of the largest bases in the country, i must say that just because military folks have steady income doesn't mean they are the best at paying bills... most of the soldiers that come back have had their account suspended or charged off from their lack of follow up after asking to put it on military suspend. leaving outstanding balances and what not... i know my wife had me here to look after things after she left and not all soldiers are married, but i know there is phone and internet service over there, there should be no reason that they cannot check on their accounts when they leave. and most of my charge backs are from military getting suspend or disconnected for non payment. it's not me being bias, it's a fact... so, no, deposits shouldn't be waived just because someone is in the military.
All you VZW folk who love to just troll it in the Sprint crib.
That's right. Just as SprintLynchburg_VA stated, there are quite a few advantages of Sprint over Verizon that I honestly don't feel can be touched by any North American national wireless carrier. For starters, we currently give all our customers on the Fair & Flexible and Fair & Flexible Family America 2 hours more of nights and weekends(starting at 7 pm), our overage above the included peak minutes is a low $5.00/30 minutes(up to 300 minutes of overage at which point is becomes $0.20/minute), our customers on $34.99 rate plans and higher get a $75.00 credit off the regular pricing of a having the same wireless device on their phone number after 12 months and $150.00 off after 22 months and the customer extends their service agreement out 2 years from the date of their discount. When it comes to the data usage arena, Sprint rocks the house with the first 1xEV-DO Rev A(the REALLY POWERFUL Power Vision) network as well as Rev A air cards that are backwards to both the 1xRTT(Vision) as well as the 1xEV-DO Rev 0(Power Vision) and our pricing on data usage is a flat fee per month for UNLIMITED use ranging from $15.00 to $25.00(wireless phones) and a current stand alone rate of $59.99 for the Broadband Connect Cards. I like to think of Sprint is like the Bob Seger song below so Verizon Wireless...can you hear me now? Gooood!
Like a Rock performed and written by Bob Seger
Stood there boldly
Sweatin’ in the sun
Felt like a million
Felt like number one
The height of summer
I’d never felt that strong
Like a rock
I was eighteen
Didn’t have a care
Working for peanuts
Not a dime to spare
But I was lean and
Solid everywhere
Like a rock
My hands were steady
My eyes were clear and bright
My walk had purpose
My steps were quick and light
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like a rock
Like a rock, I was strong as I could be
Like a rock, nothin’ ever got to me
Like a rock, I was something to see
Like a rock
And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams
Twenty years now
Where’d they go?
Twenty years
I don’t know
Sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they’ve gone
And sometimes late at night
When I’m bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin’ a ghostly white
And I recall
Recall
Like a rock. standin’ arrow straight
Like a rock, chargin’ from the gate
Like a rock, carryin’ the weight
Like a rock
Lihe a rock, the sun upon my skin
Like a rock, hard against the wind
Like a rock, I see myself again
Like a rock
Re: Every. Freakin. Sunday.
Oh man. Since I'm IN a store, I have people peering into my store like we're the last store on earth. And when I walk in to the mall, I always have someone who recognizes me and asks "'Ay, Y'all got that RAZR on Prepaid?"
And I respond:
"Sure. Come by the store in 20 minutes so I can finish My opening procedures."
So He/she/it waits by the gate and stares at me while i finish my paperwork.

Fluctuating Volume on Sync and CU500 Earpieces
I just bought a Sync and love it, except for a frequent volume fluctuation in the earpiece. It is only noticeable when there has been a pause in a conversation and speaking resumes. When the other person resumes speaking, the first part of their sentence is soft, but rapidly gets louder up to normal volume. There is a thread in Howard Forums where other owners of the Sync have noticed the same thing. I found another thread where owners of the CU500 have complained about the same thing. One user stated that it was a "gate" issue with the gain. Is this a defect that accompanies 3G phones (I am in an Edge only area)? Can anything be done about it? Does the Blackjack have the same issue? I love the Sync, except for this.
