Re: Phone suggestions for use worldwide
First--I am NOT an expert, but I travel internationally and I have some thoughts.
It is not a cheap device, but you could take a look at the Nokia N80 Internet Edition. I'm not sure about the gps, but the rest of the specs fit your wish list.
This is considered "end of life" and it is in the process of being replaced by a new version. The good news--if you find one the price should have dropped to a more comfortable level.
The wifi works great and the screen display is stunning.
I don't know if it works with Skype (it may not, or it may need certain software) but it does work with two Skype-like products. I suggest you get online and research both Truphone and Gizmo. The Nokia N80ie is a supported devide for both and you can make calls through the voip function for pennies. There is also the possibility of "renting" a US number so that your family and friends can dial that at no cost to them, and reach you when you are around the world.
These two programs work with a number of higher end N and E series Nokia phones. Given the length of time you will be away, it is worth a look.
One last note--this phone has a 3 mp camera--I believe this nuumber will actually drop on the replacement N81.
Good luck and happy travels...

Re: Curve vs Wing
I have used both the curve is by far the better of the two. The wing has to much software on it and Windows mobile is about as fast as my grandmother driving to church. The processor (speed of the os) alone is almost double that of the wing. And the BB curve keypad is actually spaced well enough to accuratly hit the key your tryin to hit.
Note: Anyone who has this phone download opera mini 4.0 beta web browser. It blows the bb browser away.

Re: Side note for business pricing
actually equipment change fees and activation fees DO NOT apply on business sub type accounts. Everything is run on the credit type.
Tax-ID = Business perks
SSN = Consumer pricing and activation fees
Reference the OLR if you question this or ask your AAE.
Re: Side note for business pricing
not true. if you activate a business on a consumer plan, even though it should be free activation it still charges the activation fees by default because the soc codes are inherent in the plan. Yes the OLR says it is waived, but you must contact your AE or customer service to get them waived. Had that happened on 2 of my associates accounts this week.
Re: Side note for business pricing
I know the systems generates the activation fee automatically, but that doesn't mean what I said is false. If what I said was false then customer service would not waive the fee because it would be against policy.
Re: Side note for business pricing
the waived activation is based on business type account with two or more lines.
VERY VERY VERY few business's have only one line.
