Thanks to T809.Blogspot.com on the renaming thing.
But moving it to the phone was vauge. So.......

NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't use the Samgung PC Suite to move the XXXXXXX.3gp to the phone!
Even though it let me rename it on my computer, When I went to MOVE to PHONE It detected something. :twisted:
I had to use steps 1 - 10 to get it moved to the phone to work.
SO..
1 I setup my USB to STORAGE in the Setup Menu of the phone!
2 Then with MY COMPUTER I selected the Phone's Drive Letter.
3 Find the MUSIC Folder on the Phone. This is the MEMORY CARD! NOT THE PHONE!
4 Go to your Folder on your computer where your music is. Rename as Filename.mp3 - TO - Filename.3gp
5 Copy the Renamed file to the phone's Memory Card - folder - MUSIC.
6 Now here's the magic. 8O
7 Unplug the phone from the cable & go to the phone's memory card folder:
MUSIC -Fun & APPS -FILEMANGER -MEMORY CARD -MUSIC Folder -OPTIONS .
8 Select the the Filename.3gp - Set as a Ringtone or Caller ID Ringtone!
9 It will ask to be moved to the phone... YES.
!0 ENJOY!!
Note:You can Dump your MP3's to the Memory Card Via Phone and then Rename them Via USB Storage then Move back to phone.
And I'm sure there are other ways also.
This just worked for me.

It's actually quite easy...in summary:
Install LGDownload and patch if needed
Install the VX8500DLL
Reboot if you are asked to
Connect the phone to the PC
NOTE: either have a fully charged battery, or if you have the MEK, make sure you plug the charger into the data cable so you are powering the phone while you flash...
Note: the less stuff on the phone (i.e. pictures, ring tones, etc) the better!!! it will go faster...
Start up LGDownload (it puts icon on the desktop, you can use that to start it)
Make sure the VX8500 DLL is being used (see the lower right section of the screen, it tells you the model/version)
Click UPGRADE, hit F8, or use OPERATION pull down and select UPGRADE.
Use the ... to the right of the BIN box... and browse to/select your T85VZV04.bin File
Leave the rest on that screen UNTOUCHED...
Click the UPGRADE DOWNLOAD START button.
If prompted for SPC, enter 000000 and click OK

I actually figured out a round-about and slightly expensive way to do it. I sent the voice-note to myself via SMS and was then able to save it as a ringtone.
Maybe once I get the MicroSD card I'll be able to do it without paying the messaging fee.
