Stereo headset that's NOT bluetooth

Greetings all,

I note that Verizon is making a big push for VCast and telling us what great music players phones like the 8300 and the Razr3m are.

However, I also note that the 8300's jack is 2.5mm while all the headphones I own are 3.5mm (or 1/4" for my older ones).

Verizon wants to sell me a $14.95 adapter so I can use my own headphones. It includes a microphone and a button to take calls. I've looked on line but haven't found just a simple adapter that would let me just use the headphones.

Surprisingly, they have one in their store on one of the display phones. It's about a three inch cord with their logo on it. I asked about buying one and was told that it was only for their display model and Verizon doesn't offer it for s...

The good news is that Radio Shack (and Fry's in CA and others I'm sure) sells an adapter plug for three bucks or so that does just what you want.

The bad news is two-fold.

First, notice that the receptacle on the 8300 is slightly recessed. The adapter wont fit all the way in the socket unless you file down the plastic (on the adapter, NOT the phone!) with an emory board to fit inside the recess. Not as hard as it might seem - the plastic is pretty soft. But...

Even after getting the adapter to fit all the way in, mine didn't work right - it only connected to one channel on the stereo headphones.

I tried all this with the adapter I bought at Fry's. I saw from the package in Radio Shack that it is a bit different in shape but h...

I got a nice sounding set of headphones with the Music Essentials Kit that's usually $29 but was on sale on Verizons Website for $19
The kit made it really easy to transfer any PROTECTED [purchased] Copyrighted Songs to my 8300

Enjoy your Sunday !!!

[Hopefully they still have the $10 discount online]

I also recently purchased the music essentials kit for 19.99. The head set works great, I was surprised that it even has mic for phone use. I started using mp3's on the player first. What a pain, you have to take the card out put it in the computer transfer the mp3's and then transfer the card back to the phone. Now I plug the phone in to the data cable, select sync and WMP converts my mp3's at a selectable bitrate and transfers the to the phone. Now I can search for music based on the artist, genre, song or album and I can make playlists! Can't do that with the mp3's Next I need a 2 gig card, the 512 I got from Fry's for cheap is not big enough.

Great post Faust... for $19 bucks it's indeed a steal!

Not sure however if there's even a 2-gig microSD card out yet.

I got the 1-gig micro card from Best Buy and put over 200 songs on it thus far.

The 512 is probably nice, but the 1-gig is not even twice the price [only a little more $$] but holds twice the data [ie. twice the number of songs].

Enjoy your weekend [what's left of it]. !!!

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably get the music essentials kit althoug I am a little peeved that it wasn't something they brought up anywhere in the "selling process." Actually they told me I could use my own headset and it wasn't until I started asking how to plug it in that we got around to talking about how the 3.5mm plug won't fit...

And SteveSobel, I bet part of the problem is that the jack that plugs into the phone is [b]4[/b] conductor, not the three that's normally on a stereo headset.

When I'm in a hurry, you should see some of my crazy [and sloppppy/ typpppo posts].

Thank goodness they're still somewhat understandable, especially since so many of the phone scoop reader use their ESP and psychic clairvoyant abilities to decipher what I'm saying.

Human indeed !

Because I didn't need the cable and software, I purchased the Jabra headset Verizon sells. I think it's pretty terrific. The customizable ear pieces make for a snug and comfortable fit.

A technical Work-Around intellect like youself doesn't ever need a measley Music Essentials Kit [even for protected music bought from LEGIT purchased sources] but so many other common people do. ๐Ÿ™‚ lol ๐Ÿ™‚

What cool Jabra head set did you get Rever and how much was it?

Was it BT or corded ?
