FCC Auction 58

OK, I'm not exactly sure what this auction is for. Here's what I think I understand..

Vista PCS - aka Verizon
Edge Mobile - Cingular
Cook Inlet - T Mobile
(the only three that I care about)

What I don't understand is what are they bidding on? License's right? Is that the most lines that they can have in a area? And how often does the FCC do this, and how do they determine what areas get more licenses?

Any clarification on this subject would be appreciated, thx

Cingular Phones - Any Recommendations?

I recently purchased the Sony Ericsson Z500a through Cingular. Does anyone have any comments on this phone (good or bad)? I realize it doesn't have bluetooth, but I've never used this...so I guess I'm not really missing that.

Also, I was wondering what people think the best phones offered by Cingular are (comparable to the Z500a or better).

Thanks!

blackberry or trio/ vzn or cingular or t moblie

First, I apologize if this has been already ask. I tried to find answer here, but too many entrys...I am trying to move my firm into 21 century. I want a phone (primarily) with ability to get (and hopefully send) e mails from my office which uses outlook express and microsoft server. We may have just 4 or 5 people to use to start and maybe a few more as we adopt. I am looking at blackberrys or trios ( or suggestion). Which is best for reading e mails with sometimes large document attachments? In addition, which carrier. I live in LA area, but travel a lot to NY, Boston, SF and Chicago. Phone coverage is important. Verizon's choice of phones is limited. I like T Mobile's selection and prices, but worried about coverage. My office MAY (i...

ATTWS/Cingular GSM Strategy

Hello all, I'm hoping you can help me with an issue I've been toying with. I'm wondering if any of you know what the rollout strategy is going to be for ATTWS/Cingular as they continue their buildout of their combined network. As I understand it.. (and please correct me if I'm wrong) there are more 1900 MhZ licenses available in a given area than 800 MhZ licenses, and most of the GSM network currently in operation runs on 1900 MhZ. Only in areas where the carrier owns 800 MhZ licenses will there be an 800 MhZ signal. I've studied the advantages and disadvantages of both frequencies, and am trying to figure out if they are going to overlay the 800 MhZ signal into the 1900 Mhz signal areas, or just fill in dead spots with 800 MhZ, or what. May...

Verizon coverage in Iowa

My husband and I are currently shopping for new cell phones and plans. Does anyone have Verizon Wireless coverage in Iowa (especially around the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area)? We'd like to know how the coverage is in this area. We've heard that it is bad, and it looks bad online, but of course the Verizon salespeople say it's good. Does anyone have any info that could help us decide? Thanks!

Call Waiting while using data features of smartphone?

I am a big fan of converged devices and like the idea of using one gizmo for voice mails, emails, browsing, etc. However, it seems that most phones do not inform you of incoming phone calls when you are browsing or downloading e-mails. I have an Audiovox Smartphone which is a wonderful phone in theory but whenever I am on the web, calls are missed and I don't even know it.

Are there any phones/carriers out there that treat a data call just like any other call so I don't have to keep missing phone calls?

Thanks
