Can someone help a newbie?

I am quite lost in your alphabet soup, so I have to use regular English to discuss. :roll
I have a new PC (Dell) with wireless capability, and am planning to get the Nokia 6670 because I am told that it will enable me to link onto the web. Can anyone verify this, and/or tell me how to do it, what other equipment I will need, advice about a better phone to do it with, etc.? Thanks.

Blackberry, Bluetooth and BMW

I am technologically challenged, but it is too much to ask to get a blackberry with bluetooth that will work with a BMW X5? All I want is to carry ONE device. I'd even switch from Verizon to Cingular if necessary. Is there any way???

The possible future of cell service?

This is all supposition so take it as you will but I have been reading alot about some new tech that sounds interesting. Also sounds like the AT&T parent investors( not the company being bought out the investors) are moving in this direction. Here's how it works- the device when in proximity to a wifi network works on VOIP technology and allows data access at full or better than cable internet speed. When in an area not covered by wifi the phone would access a cellular network. Your service provider at least initially would most likely be an MVNO (like the one the at&t was planning before the sbc buyout deal ). Nice thing is that the wifi spectrum is unliscensed so the access in those areas should be dirt cheap. I believe this is why the at&...

PTT Question

Currently with PTT you can only communicate to others with your same carrier. I remeber when txt messaging first started this was true also. Now you can txt to anyone you want. Even if its years down the line will we ever be able to PTT cross carrier?

I think the answer is no but can someone tell me why the technology wont allow for this?

July 4th cell phones

I do not recall as many cell phones exploding as there have been in the last few years. It seems to me that there is an underlying reason for these occurances. I appreciate that each instance must be evaluated individually but the designers must be pushing some envelope for this to be occuring.

Where is the E815

🙄

My god, that phone was approved by the FCC in January. Something tells me there are problems at Verizon. Hope not, I have only good to say about Verizon......except for their selection of phones and delayed releases.

ENS, use stronger cingular/att signal

Is anyone familiar with "ENS" i spoke to a cingular sales rep who indicated that all their phones (except the nokia 6230) have "ENS" which lets them pick up the strongest available tower signal strength wether it is att or cingular. he indicated that the Nokia 6230 did not have this, rather it would hold on to an att tower signal even if there was a much stronger cingular signal available. told me the phone would not have as reliable reception/call hold because of this. He indicated that the "ENS" feature was somehow related to the 64K card in all the other phones.

Is anyone familiar with "ENS" and if what the rep said is true or if i missed something in the interpretation? i just recvd the nokia 6230 (which by the way the packing slip i...

Global Mobile Phone Number Format

I am trying to enforce 1 telephone number format throughout a contact management system that synchs to Outlook as well as to all of the firms partners' mobile devices. I need to do this on a global scale so international numbers are included. What phone number format can be auto-dialed across all mobile devices around the world? What symbols & styles will or won't cause intereference?

+ plus sign to dial internationally
( ) parentheses
- dashes
spaces

Ex:
+1(800)800-8888
+1(800)800 8888
+1 800 800-8888
+1 800 800 8888
1 800 800 8888
18008008888

I appreciate any & all feedback, advice or recommendations.

Google Launches New Cell-Phone Services
Email this Story

Apr 12, 10:23 AM (ET)

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) - Google Inc. (GOOG) on Tuesday unveiled two new services with which users can find local business listings or get driving directions through their cell phones.

A new Web site, Google Local, for users with XHTML-enabled browsers on their phones can search for a local business, figure out how to get there and provide a zoomable map of the area, Google said.

Users can also retrieve driving directions with text messages via Google SMS, the company added. Currently, users can send a text message with a search query and receive addresses, stock quotes, weather and movie listings.

The company said Google Local is available in ...

Quandry for the nerds...

TerreStar Networks is launching a satellite to be operational in 2008 that will beam data to wireless customers in North America. Any one have some ideas of what type of signal/technology this would be sent as? Think its a good idea? Mobile live tv for everyone, or only a particular technology? How will this effect the wireless community? Take a look and feel free to expound upon your theories.
