Help Needed! re DST time shift

If times aren't being displayed correctly here on the site since the DST time change, please reply to this thread.

Please include the browser and OS you are using.

Please also mention whether or not your computer has been restarted since the time change. If you haven't tried that, please try that before replying. It should update by the 2nd page you view on phonescoop.com after the restart. If not, please let me know here.

Thanks! 🙂

Site Update

We've just launched a minor refresh of the site layout, plus some changes to how we present news items.

The most obvious change is that the blue bar on the left doesn't go all the way down. We've changed the look on the left to provide greater visual clarity between the main navigation, page actions, and the other site links below that.

At the same time, we've replaced the "Email" page action with "Share", which gives you some additional options, including Facebook. We're also moving RSS feeds into this box on pages that have feeds, and calling that "Subscribe" now.

We also tweaked the Log In area in a few ways. Now you can log in without leaving the page. We also removed the "Welcome back (Joe Shmoe)" text. As much as we want to be...

Alcatel Phones? for Rich*

I noticed that walmart.com is selling Alcatel wireless phones with the 850 gsm band (all unlocked). Any chance you guys may be adding them to your list of phones? They aren't high end models but if walmart is selling unlocked phones, they may catch on (like the linux based pc :-)

Need database of thumbnail images for handsets

Hello Phonescoop.com
I am putting together a J2ME game website where users can select their handset and download games for that handset. i noticed on your website that you have hundreds of thumbnail images (about 75x75 pixels in size) of hundreds of different handsets. Is it possible for me to use these images on my website? Who owns the license/copyright? Or is there some other easy way I can get these images for use on my website? I'm willing to pay $ for the image database if the cost is reasonable.

Please contact me at marc AT westofpluto.com. Thanks.

bad phone stats

Why do you have wrong information on a phone. I send an email to tell you it was wrong, yet despite countless information across the internet you still insist your info is right?

I could understand a simple mix up, but this is well known information and if people buy a phone expecting a feature you claim it had, and it doesn't, that is not right. Especially when you had every opportunity to change the information before they bought the phone.

I only checked a few phones on this site..who knows what other ones are wrong.

So people..please get your stats from other sites. Or only take the ones from here with a grain of salt.

Help Needed! re Pop-over Ads

Many of you probably noticed the Verizon pop-over ads that were running recently.

Please reply to this thread with whether you saw the ad (if you're not sure, you probably didn't; it's hard to miss.)

If you did see it in recent days, how often did it appear each day? Once? Several times? Many times?

I would really appreciate it if anyone that has a moment could reply and help us out with this.

(FYI, They are supposed to appear absolutely no more often than once per day, but they seem to have been appearing more often for some people. The last thing we want to do is annoy you guys with constant ads like that, so for now we've turned off that ad campaign completely until we can fix the problem.)

Thanks! 🙂

Just figured I'd mention it again.

The LG Venus is scattered over all sorts of phone news sites like Phone Scoop. Yet, is it listed in the phone list as an upcoming phone at Phone Scoop? ...nope.
This is just an example of how delayed everything is that comes to this site. There is plenty of reliable information on the Venus. (Like the official spec sheet...) ...and you have already even mentioned it in your Holiday In Depth article.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Instead of working to write about Verizon Wireless phones (and other carrier's phones for that matter,) it seems you are working FOR Verizon Wireless. ...which is so different than this site used to be!

With that being said, please stop making me go to other sites to get ...

Phone Memory

Whenever I view a phone and it says that there is built-in flash memory, it usually (except occasionally for the intro to the phone) tells me the memory capacity of it. Am I reading the site wrong or is this something that will be addressed?

Glossary Addition?

Flash Lite. Is Flash lite a flash player? I think I read online that it was related to Adobe's Mobile Flash Player, but perhaps I was mistaken. It's not just a flash light is it? 😕

I wish when I was on this forum, that when I was reading through stuff, I could just read the responses all the way down, like Howard Forums. Makes it much easier to read.

Link to phones...

I sent this suggestion via email and got a canned response so I decided to post here. Not something that I think would be too difficult to implement and would make this site that much more intuitive.

When you guys reference another phone model in the write up for a new phone, why not link to the referenced phone on your own site?

Example? Samsung SGH-A127

"Based on the old E715, this basic clamshell GSM phone is also similar to the A117, but adds a camera and MMS. Other features include an internal antenna, external display, speakerphone, WAP browser, and downloadable games, ringtones and graphics."
