Does Alltel use Verizon Wireless's Towers? If so, why you Alltel if they are paying for Verizon's Coverage - is that why Alltel plans are more and less minutes?

does anyone know how far alltel reaches of the mainland in new orleans. I get all these poeple who work offshore asking me about this and i don't really have no frickin clue (i can't even swim). if anyone has some insight let me know please. thanks

I called Alltel customer care and asked them about the availability of the new Motorola v710 coming soon, and was told that only certain markets for Alltel will get the phone. This is news to me, when I called about the phone before, they didn't mention anything about this phone not being offered to any area covered by Alltel's service.

As far as i'm aware of, Alltel's network is comprised of mostly CDMA 800 and some areas with AMPS, and this phone model does cover both frequencies.

Does anyone know of this possibly being true?

Is it true that Alltel makes you pay for everything ala carte? Like call waiting, call foward, 3-way calling, no answer transfer, voice mail, and caller id?

Anybody has any good stories about customers trying to buy phones from them. I'm bored at work right and i need something to laugh or cry at.

does picture messaging and axcess work in California or is it limited to the enhanced services footprint. 🙄

Alltel may not have all the jazzy phones of other companies but they've got something that cell phones were meant to do. Provide great service and reception. If you want all that magic then buy a PDA or digital camera.
If you want a phone then stick with Alltel.
My LG 5550 works great, awesome reception and call clarity. It does what a phone is supposed to do. 😁

Does anyone think that with the introdution of the Motorola v710, that Alltel might offer an unlimited web brower package anytime soon? With video messenging on this phone and people probably more willing to "play" on the mobile web, someone might think it's an option for them to offer.

I don't understand how Verizon and other CDMA companies can come up with more phones than Alltel. What's up?

Anyone know dates for these supposed new phone releases? I've heard about the V710 in probably the first week of October--but I've also heard very bad things about that phone.

I was told twice by Alltel's customer care that the Motorola V710 is coming sometime in October. It's nice to know that video messenging, a high-end flip with a megapixel camera, and nice large 260,000 main color screen and outside color...all of those features coming in what appears to be a great phone, and hopefully we see it earlier in October.

When I called Alltel to inquire about the Motorola V710, the rep told me that there is supposted to be some new phones coming out around the first week of October. Hopefully this changes the scenery we all have been used to seeing in the line-up...even if it's not a great model like the V710, anything at this point would be a drastic improvement. It's just a matter of waiting and seeing.

My brother and I joined Alltel yesterday evening. The cust svc rep was very friendly and helpful. I hope it's always that way.
We joined the GF $49 plus $20 family plan.
Two LG 5550 phones with $4 insurance each.
They work great so far, very loud speakerphone. 😁

My brother and I are considering joining Alltel's Greater Freedome plan of $49.99 (plus $20) for 1000 anytime mins, unlimited mobile/mobile and n/w mins and free nationwide long distance. We're considering the LG 5550.
Question is should we wait for new and better plans/phones or will that be a while?

Alltel says they have a better network, so does anyone know if there will be any better phones anytime soon? It's probably true that Alltel DOES indeed have a wonderful, reliable network...but where are the good phones, like video enabled models?

If anyone has the scoop as to when we might see some new phones coming to Alltel this fall or by the end of the year...please let us all know, I would guess there are quite a few people wondering. Thanks for the info.

Alltel will never merge with verizon. Alltel has more on hand cash than verizon, and Scott Ford (alltel ceo) is way to proud to give up his family farm. 😁

There are two main carriers in my area (Upper Ohio Valley) which are AT&T Wireless and Alltel. With the soon to be largest carrier in the country coming up, what will that spell for competition?

Consider that AT&T Wireless and Cingular are already getting a lot of new phones, with a network upgrade supposed to be coming in 2005, a new unlimited internet plan available, and expanded coverage. Compare that with what Alltel has to offer, I would say Verizon is very much a better way to go, but Verizon doesn't offer local service. (Yet)

What steps does anyone think Alltel will take, and could a merger or takeover by Verizon happen before the Cingular takeover? This would logically be answer, but will it ever happen?
