Alltel's competition w/ Cingular

There are two main carriers in my area (Upper Ohio Valley) which are AT&T Wireless and Alltel. With the soon to be largest carrier in the country coming up, what will that spell for competition?

Consider that AT&T Wireless and Cingular are already getting a lot of new phones, with a network upgrade supposed to be coming in 2005, a new unlimited internet plan available, and expanded coverage. Compare that with what Alltel has to offer, I would say Verizon is very much a better way to go, but Verizon doesn't offer local service. (Yet)

What steps does anyone think Alltel will take, and could a merger or takeover by Verizon happen before the Cingular takeover? This would logically be answer, but will it ever happen?

Since Cingular will replace ATTWS in your area, the competition picture will be similar to what it is now... a national provider against Alltel. The new Cingular will have an advantage in coverage, like ATTWS does now. Cingular and ATTWS have always had similar handset selections, so that won't change. Other than that, until the ATTWS buyout is complete, there is much we DON'T know.

As for VZW coverage in the area...where exactly are you from I can check on that for you...as for a VZW merger with Alltel...might be a possiblity in the future...and I stress might( I am in no way trying to say that it WILL happen, actually haven't heard anything about it) but that would be awesome for VZW, alot more Native coverage and money savings on the roaming agreements we currently have with Alltel. As for anything like a merger or buyout going thru completely before that ATT and Cingular deal is finished...theres about a 0% chance of that happening...unless every ATT tower were to crash and burn and Cingular would have to rebuild that entire portion of the network...hehehe...wishful thinking!!!

just depends on what you're looking for. If you just want solid coverage and plenty of minutes I would say alltel could work for ya. If you need that unlimited interent package attws/cingular cause alltel is really lagging on data as of this second. if you do go attws/cingular do it before the merger cause attws has better plans than cingular right now (going out of business sale I guess) and when the merger is complete you could get locked in to the better rates.

well its my understanding that attws has a national plan 59.99 900 anytime free n&w that start at seven mtm and 9.99 add on while cingular's plan is 59.99 850 anytime 7.00 for your nights to start at 7. I'm not sayin that there kickin your but or anything but cause other than that they run neck to neck. Actually cingular has better high end plans to your credit.
