Buy in Now or Wait?

Snuggles

My brother and I are considering joining Alltel's Greater Freedome plan of $49.99 (plus $20) for 1000 anytime mins, unlimited mobile/mobile and n/w mins and free nationwide long distance. We're considering the LG 5550.
Question is should we wait for new and better plans/phones or will that be a while?

Thanks in advance.

If I were you, I would wait about another 3 weeks before I made a decision. With Cingular taking over AT&T Wireless...ALLTEL will probably come out with more phones very shortly and better plans for competitive sake. Give it til after the first week of October and if not, the LG 5550 would be a good choice.

There are going to be many new EXCITING things coming in the next few months with plans and upgrades on the Alltel network/plans. Most of the things should be rolled out the first of the year to be competitive with Cingular's taking over ATT. Video messaging, N&W minutes at 7 and higher data speeds for internet users using their wireless phones are to name a few. Anyone will be able to take advantage of these as well as other great things that will happen the first of the year...hope this helps 😁 🙂 😉

But if I joined Alltel now, I could always add the 7pm N/W mins at any time in future, right? And video messaging? A little hard to provide this service when only one mediocre camera phone exists in the line-up. Sounds like they will be competing with Sprint features.

But what will all existing customers do when new phones and features come out? Do they get to upgrade free?

To be honest about it, Alltel would have to get a better line-up of phones to offer more and better services to both existing and future customers alike. The foremost thing a wireless carrier has to deliver to consumers is the product that delivers their service...the cell phone itself. And we all have to have some sort of satisfaction with it, and the one basic camera phone should only be the beginning.

Hopefully we do see the 7pm nights, better phones, hopefully one's with video recording capability, and ultimately, better data speeds.

What kind of phones are coming (as in what phone models)? Any ideas of which one's we might see and when would be nice to know.

well i dont know if you saw the previous message that i left for someone....but 2 Motorola's ( V710 & 262), Audiovox 8910, 2 Kyocera's (440 and one other) and an LG..i think it was a 4650 with T2T. The 8910 and 710 are camera phones. 710 with video recording/messaging. Normal upgrade policies apply, they have to be out of contract or 3 months to the end of existing to upgrade at activation price. Otherwise it is at full retail to purchase a phone. The camera phones are suppose to be launched in October...but who knows for sure. Hope this helps

i don't think Alltel needs better phones but just a larger variety of phones. most of the customers that buy phones from me never even ask me about video messaging, bluetooth or any of the other services. What they do say is "Is this all the phones you got". I mean every now and then i still sell a moto V120. I just want alltel to offer a diverse and unique line up. yes bluetooth would be nice only but only if they don't cripple it like verizon did. it doesn't even have to have a camera just send me new phones (notice the "s" on phone please) and i'll shut up. Okay
