alltel offshore

does anyone know how far alltel reaches of the mainland in new orleans. I get all these poeple who work offshore asking me about this and i don't really have no frickin clue (i can't even swim). if anyone has some insight let me know please. thanks

It doesn't go very far at all - about 3/4 of a mile on a good day. I work for VZW out of Lafayette, and we keep tabs on this kind of thing. The thing is, once you get offshore, IF you get a signal at all, you're roaming on either Petrocomm or Coastel, and they will stick you with a $3 DAILY fee AND a $3 per minute roaming fee. AS you can see, it gets real expensive real quick.

It's been that way for a long time.

Alltel does have an agreement with a provider offshore for the oil rigs in the Gulf.

I have a bagphone in my Keywest, with a 8 ft fiberglass anntenae on my t-top and a signal amp from boaters world, and it will talk 65 miles off shore fairly easily.
