Re: Scrolling to the end of a list?
Actually, Motorola had a patent for this on cell phones. That's why you see old Motorola cell phones with the end/power key on the left side. If my memory serves me correctly, LG owned the patent for the end key on the right side. Nokia largely avoided this by having their power button on the top of the phone.
I have yet to see a valid argument on how it is possible to use force to prevent ...
Re: Nokia - step by step to it's End ?
Not necessarily. Baseband patents just simply aren't as valuable as they used to be and Nokia exited that business I believe last year.
It's like cleaning out the attic. Sure there might be some valuable stuff up there, but if you haven't had the time to pay attention, you might be better off generating some immediate cash.
I think Nokia made it pretty clear that they are focusing on the Windows/MS alliance and chasing down licenses and royalties is ...
Re: Why?
Discreet does not exist in business, especially in a consumer facing business such a the carrier business. Think about all the marketing that goes directly to the consumer? This is simply a part of it.
I understand you sentiment, but like the earlier comments, Sprint is a MASSIVE public company.
And yes, like all other businesses, they are very much self interested in influencing the market. Whether or not this works, only time can tell.
Booooooo!
Where will I get my speaker interference then?
Re: Just buy whatever is best....
Some of these responses just make me laugh.
Please then explain why the iPhone is so popular in Korea? The Motorola StarTac was so popular, they were making newer versions of it YEARS after it ended production in the states. Motorola even released a color screen version of the phone.
Nationalist sentiments and some protectionist policies aside, I think there are some basic economic reasons. Competition in the electronics industry is brutal in South Korea. Japanese camera ...
Re: Don't Purchase Any current Nokia Windows Devices
Just pointing out that something not being upgradeable may not be an absolute deal breaker for everyone. :D
Re: Don't Purchase Any current Nokia Windows Devices
What if I don't care?
Re: Ooooooooooo--
Not necessarily. I think the "standard" setting is 5mp. They over-sample a 41mp image to create a nicer 5mp image.
Re: Lee Kun-hee's son, Jay Y. Lee
Actually yes it is. Please read about chaebol structure.
Re: Is LTE new or something???
And it hasn't been reliable since it's availability. This isn't an easy problem to solve, especially for a company that no baseband experience. You write as if they OWE you this chipset.
Amusing
I'm amused at the amount of time many people spend to hate this phone. You people do realize that you're still generating buzz for the phone. If you genuinely hated it, you would simply ignore it.
Thank you for promoting Nokia.
Re: two SIM cards?
Dream on for NA. Carriers won't sell phone like this because they don't want you cross shopping service since the phones are subsidized. Article doesn't mention what radio frequencies are supported, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before you can buy these unsubsidized somewhere.
For CDMA, it can be done at the Voice and SMS level fairly simply, but since the networks are even more locked down, it's even more unlikely since it's not a ...

NSN is headquartered out of Finland.
Re: Maybe if there were a reason to buy their smartphones
Back in 2009/10, LG made a decision to continue to be a major feature phone manufacturer.
They've been struggling ever since. Before the insults start hurling at how stupid of a decision that was, don't forget that LG was posting record quarterly profits until the end of 2009. This was primarily through feature phone sales.
No one saw the smartphone shift happening this quickly.
Re: If this is the best Nokia can do, then they should quit
You do realize that MS also realizes it's a done deal if it doesn't win in the smartphone space. Both players are desperate. MS has been historically bad at hardware and it has been especially true with phones. Yes, MS has TONS of cash, but once that burn starts because they're losing money, it doesn't take very long to bleed to death.
And you're wrong. Nokia isn't basically pulling a hail Mary. The ARE pulling ...
Re: tmobile, make up your freaking mind!
Choices never hurt the consumer. If you're that offended, you can simply choose to NOT use T-Mobile.
I'm sorry to read you're taking it so personally.
Re: I'll show you mine
Good artists copy...great artists...
Re: This reminds me of...
Once again, read where the target markets are for this phone. Not everything revolves around America. And yes, however ridiculous you find it, there is a market for this kind of thing.
Re: This reminds me of...
Read the caption and read which markets they are launching this phone in. Whether you like it or not, there IS a market to sell this kind of thing. Obviously, this would do horribly here, but aesthetics are not a universal concept.
Re: Amazing
Patent trolling isn't always about winning. Part of it is filing a complaint now so that any future lawsuits have some reference.
Re: Outdated Material
Prepaid space? You do realize that YOU aren't the only market for cell phones.
Re: Corporatism...
The OP is correct in being angry, but the anger needs to be directed at the correct party. Illinois(or any other state/municipality/etc.) should keep taxes low(or better yet non-existent) for ALL business, not just large corporations that have the political clout to gain tax advantages.
Another bad side effect of government.
Re: I agree.
So is it legal to purchase anything in San Francisco any more?
Re: Why?
Clearly, NO ONE who reads this site has any idea of what enterprise customers demand.
Re: The Moral Equivalence Argument
Please read how CDMA spec and synchronization works.
I am aware how GSM works, but even LAC code or tower data is sufficient for what the carriers were doing.
Furthermore, I posed no moral equivalent argument. I don't think I even made an argument. All I noted was that this is the first time this issue came to light for something that was considered standard practice.
If I were to make any point, the present overreaction has to be considered ...
Re: It IS a big deal
You all DO realize that the carriers have been doing this for quite some time now.
Nothing new here. The only difference is that the practice has been brought to light.
Can you people at least understand how the IP nightmare works?
Let alone the whole legal system? Regardless of how you think on right or wrong about the present legal system, many of these comments are amusingly ignorant.
Re: Hmmm
Uhh...They already ARE! All across the world(including the US of A).
Re: What's this? Google following Facebook?
What about digg? Or email voting in MS Exchange? Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is very little "originality" anywhere. Remember Friendster?
Re: Not good
I hope that's a trolling comment.
You do realize that an airplane is probably the most technologically advanced "thing" that a normal consumer will get to experience in his lifetime. Basically they're literally surrounded by technology.
So no, you can't get away from technology by flying. You're pretty much hurtling through the air in it.
Re: smart move
Nokia tends to have good camera technology. Even without the autofocus, it will still be pretty nice.
Plus I think at this price point and packaging(read it's too thin), a mechanical auto focus camera would not have been possible.

Re: Prediction: this will be what Sprint will use beyond IDEN
Nextel. Free direct connect to Mexico. That's why so many Mexican use it.
Re: Prediction: this will be what Sprint will use beyond IDEN
Yo, where you at?
Re: Prediction: this will be what Sprint will use beyond IDEN
This service would actually be more beneficial in South America. PTT is actually a very popular feature there.
