Corporatism...

Wow. I bet if I threatened to leave my city/state no city would change it's tax codes. But let's be sure to change everything so the corporations can stay. How much do you think these officials were paid on top of the tax revenue they will be getting?

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power". -Mussolini

It's a shame how appropriate this quote is these days.

They change for a large company because it's easier than having the large company move. If you move, it's just you and your Warbound.

Illinois did the right thing. Their business taxes are uncompetitively high. They don't have to lower their taxes, but no one has to stay there either. Odds are these kinds of changes might even bring more business to Illinois and their tax revenue will go up.

The OP is correct in being angry, but the anger needs to be directed at the correct party. Illinois(or any other state/municipality/etc.) should keep taxes low(or better yet non-existent) for ALL business, not just large corporations that have the political clout to gain tax advantages.

Another bad side effect of government.

Don't worry--I'm sure as citizens we can shoulder a more crippling tax burden. God Bless America!

Would it be preferable if Motorola had been allowed to walk? How many jobs would have been lost? I'm curious what your solution would have been.

Another solution? Industry incentive packages geared toward the employee vs the corporate tax rate being held ransom. I'm talking about health care/child care subsidies, even housing (if the city has a large enough telecom technology industry) or however you wanted to break it down, making it most costly in the long run in the back end employee costs motorola has to shoulder should they decide to go somewhere else. but to cave directly at their threat shows no business acumen on the parts of these legislators. Incentives to stay might be necessary, to be sure, but make sure those incentives benefit your constituents while making it more costly for the company to leave.

Your fascism blinds you to reality. That's what it is. When corporations make the decisions for our governments that is called fascism. And none of your yes man crap will change that. Those workers were working somewhere else when Motorola and Twitter showed up. They have the option to move with the company or find a new job.
What you are talking about is the usual "let's make them afraid to stand up to us" crap that has ruined our country.

I also find it ironic that you would say imply that I don't care about individuals... That was my whole point. The government would not offer me as an individual the same rights and privileges that it offers these corporations. These corporations don't give a damn about the individual and they are trying to force the government to have the same policy.

How did they "force" them to do anything. You are telling me, if you had a business that would operate cheaper somewhere else, you wouldn't move it? And if a large part of your communtity was employed by this company, as a legislator, you wouldn't do what you can to keep them here? I'm just so tired of all the corporate hating, conspiracy theorizing, government haters. Why can it just be people trying to do their jobs? I have never met the "Evil Matermind" out there running these companies thinking, "How can I screw people out of their hard earned casd, today?" Everyone I know and have ever met is somebody in the rat race doing there best to be as successful as possible. Trying to make money and pull themselves out of the muck of the world. ...

These corporations don't like the laws so they blackmail the local cities and towns with the threat of bankrupting them by taking their businesses elsewhere to get what they want.
Please do not compare the struggles of the normal everyday man with the "struggles" of multi-million dollar big business. It's insulting and only enhances that "Yes Man" aura you seem to carry like a flag. These companies run with the help of gigantic subsidies paid for by the tax payer. They don't need any more incentives to do what they are doing. You have said repeatedly that you would like to see cell phone subsidies disappear. I'm guessing that you don't agree with corporations giving up the billions of dollars in subsidies they get. Companies like Twitter an...

You know, all I do is try to think about thing by putting my self in their shoes to find out what I'd do in the same situation. Sometimes, it is just simple. Sometimes. Companies do what companies do, and I do what I do. I don't care because I'm gonna do what I do. I'm gonna work. I'm gonna pay bills, and I'm gonna live in America. When it get too much for me to handle, I'll leave. I CHOOSE to believe in people and the good in them. How do any of your words actually make sense? Motorola provides jobs. So does Twitter. That doesn't give them the right to screw over the people they are employing! How is it fair that these corporations get government subsidies and then don't have to pay taxes? Excuse me? So let me get this straight. You are okay with working for Motorola, being taxed by the local and federal government, having those taxes paid back to Motorola and then you're cool with Motorola not paying any taxes? Mussolini was the one who coined the Corporate Fascist term and HE WAS A FASCIST. When big business and Government combine, that is FASCISM. I'm sorry you are ignorant of the truth or ignorant of the definition.

I'm trying to figure out why your response to me not liking what a corporation is doing amounts to personal attacks. Why do you defend these companies? Time and time again, you jump to the defense of companies who charge too much and don't want to pay taxes and you do it by attacking people who speak out against them. Are you Rush Limbaugh?

I don't feel that it is personal attacks, it's that you throw around the word "fascist" like you have Tourette Syndrome and have no choice. I'm not jumping to the defense of anything but people. Company decisions aren't made by one man twisting his mustache. They are made by several people trying to do what is best for that company, just like I would do for my own company. I don't fault them. It's business. I don't fault a company for trying to make as much money as possible. I don't think that they thought to themselves, "Let's blackmail this city with threats to leave so they will give us tax breaks!" But, this tax break benefited not just Motorola, but all business owners in Illinois. As a small business owner, I wouldn't have had the abi...

Or are you just the manager of a mall kiosk? You are an employee of theirs so please don't insult anyone's intelligence by saying otherwise. I don't really give a damn if you "feel" like it isn't personal attacks. When you say my name and then start throwing baseless insults, that is a personal attack. Actually, that's not true at all. Guys like Ron Paul believe in lowering taxes for everyone including businesses. He also wants to get rid of all the government subsidies these corporations get. So if these companies agree to never get subsidies, then I say give them tax breaks. But that isn't the case at all. They get both because they either bully or pay off politicians. Trickle down economics does not and has never worked. Making big businesses pay less means the people pay more. One way or another, the government will get it's cut. So after the lawmakers take their bribes or cower in fear to the threat of a jobless cities, they vote to make the normal everyday Joe take the burden of paying for the needs of the many. And realistically, we...
