Re: This has real potential
I disagree, most cities do not have municipal WiFi and that leaves you with home coverage only. At least with T-mo offering you will just switch over to the cell network when you are out of range.
Reminds me of the Verizon OS
this is what has been "in the works" for years? C'mon Moto get with it.
Re: Helio Terms of Service
wow these guys make Verizon's 10GB cap seem extremely generous. What are they thinking?
Re: Can you search for contacts by name?
it uses T9 (sort of) to bring up names. For example if you have a friend named James you would type 52637 (JAMES) it should bring his name up. I really hated this "feature" at first but have now really started to like it, plus being able to quick number search is great too.
Re: Profile Problem? Only headset seems to work
plug in the headset again and wiggle it a bit. It seems that there is a poor design with the SDA headset jack and sometimes it will stick, making the device think that a headset is still plugged in. I have had this issue and many others have too.
Re: this is pimpin
the only problem is that Verizon believes in exactly the opposite of the Linux platform, lock down everything (including using the same crummy UI on every handset). I don't see this getting released for any US carrier but I am sure that since it is quad band it will be popular with the T-Mobile and Cingular users.
They could have thought of a better way to go about this
I;m not a Cingular subscriber but I would think that there is a better way of going about this. Don't bully people into a new contract by charging them more for what was sold to them. If I were Cingular I would send inserts with every bill from Jan 2007 to 2008 (TDMA/Analog customers only) letting them know that the network will no longer be operational, per government allowance, and offer the options for new equipment and ...
Re: Don't think these will go over well
I doubt that many will wait for HSPDA phoes because they will likely go for more $$$$ plus the reason the RAZR is doing so well is not for features (VGA camers, no EDGE, 7MB of memory) its all about style. And people spend money on style (reguardless of features)

how do you even pronounce these names? OK the RAZR name was cool.... these names are just lame and getting out of hand
KRZR = I always called this one the CRUISER (I know that there is no U but it seemed like the best pronunciation for KRZR)
RIZR = RISER (ie. It rises up when you slide it)

tmobile has the pebl and the sidekick... /;| . For such a *relatively* small carrier that seems generous already.
T-Mobile may be a small carrier in the states (22+ million customers) but they are the 3rd largest carrier in the world. They have pretty deep pockets my friend. And most phones are launched for GSM months or even years before a CDMA counterpart is created. CDMA market is much smaller world-wide, so costs are higher
Re: No EVDO on Katana?????
I wasn't trying to start a flame war here, I was just surprised to see that Sprint was releasing a "higher end" phone without EVDO.
No EVDO on Katana?????
Sanyo Katana: A thin, RAZR-esque clamshell available in four colors. There's a bright QVGA screen inside, and a second color display outside. Features include VGA camera, Bluetooth (including DUN), PCS Vision 1xRTT data, and speakerphone.
Re: Expensive
T-Mobile - They have unlimited messaging, but they also have a sad network. As a current T-Mobile customer in Dallas, I fight often with the weakness of the network and I'm planning to switch to Cingular as soon as I can. What's the point of service if I can't maintain a conversation?
the main reason that T-Mobile's network is so "sad" is that they oversell the heck out of it. Way too many people that should have cells are ...
Re: Now now...
its good to see some CDMA Nokias. I think that there is still a large crowd for candybar format phones and no one is producing them, why wouldn't Nokia want a piece of that? Clamshell is nice but IMO candybar is far more durable and is much easier for SMS (not having to flip open/closed each time)
Re: Vapid? That's not harsh enough!
1.3 MP is fine (the US market is still releasing "high end" phones with VGA cams, PEBL for example) what gets me is Windows Mobile 2003???????????????????????? WTF are they thinking, I can't go to the store and pick up a new computer that is preloaded with Windows 98 can I? Then why release a new phone with an old A.S.S. OS on it?
Re: T-Mob strongarm!
exactly, just like SONY did with AIWA. SONY owns them and felt that they (SONY) were missing out on a target market of consumers that wanted nice looking product but didn't have the money. SONY did not want to "cheapen" their brand/name so they manufactured basically the same product by marketed it as AIWA and sold it for half the price.
Re: 6030
this phone is definately more "feature packed" than the 6010, it adds speakerphone, 65,000 color display instead of 4,000 and picture caller id. I know that the 6030 has taken the place of the 6010 for Cingular and soon T-Mobile, but this could easily be included in their prepaid line-up as the cost is probably lower than the 6030 is anyway.
Re: Geez, still no EDGE!
The 6101 does have EDGE, I think that he is saying that the Moto does not have EDGE. So far only 2 out of the last 6 Moto phones for T-Mobile have had it.
V195 - NO
RAZR - NO
PEBL - NO
V188 - NO
V360 - YES
V330 - YES
Re: That is typical!!
maybe Sprint feels that a lot of the people who are signed up for EVDO data cards are more likely to travel to Canada (meaning tons of ROAMING revenue for them) than there are new domestic sign ups in secondary markets. Telus is probably putting most of these towers up anyhow so not much is actually coming out of Sprint's pockets.
Re: Office for SDA?
www.handango.com
program is called ClearVue Suite. This will give you a viewer for the most common office files (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe PDF)
Its possible that there might not be a GSM version at all
